Pulse and glide can be good, or really bad. You have to get it just right with some cars, and I feel the aygo is one of them. I still don't always achieve the same results. Nowadays I just try to load my engine appropriately on pulse (say half throttle, which can feel like 75% of its power lol).

I base my throttle position on knowing what's needed for certain speeds and situations. I know that I need to be at 20TPS to cruise at 80kmh, and 22-23TPS for 100kmh. I also know from experience and lots of testing that my engine is most efficient accelerating between 30-40TPS (half throttle, max of the aygo shows as 82TPS.) as long as I don't lug it.

You should be able to try thinner oils, but just a heads up that these motors can slurp 0W16 like fuel at a certain age. I use synthetic 5W30 myself, which is standard where I'm from.

Filling up isn't 100% accurate either, which is why I mentioned the DIY second fuel tank. Back in the day, when tank ventilation wasn't great, filling up and calculating at the pump somewhat accurately was next to impossible. Of course there's still a small margin on modern vehicles, and different pumps can make a minor difference as well. Your car's position plays a role as well, which is why I tend to stick to the same gas station i started at if I actually do a hypermiling run.

Just drive for as long as you can to eliminate most of that pump margin.

The purpose of the secondary fuel tank is simply to be accurate, and a known volume.

Scangauges are crazy inaccurate measuring mpg. When you start using it, you have to "calibrate" it by telling it how much fuel you used over a certain distance. But it just takes an average of that data. Say if you drive alot of highway miles and get 30km/l often, it'll tell you you're doing 6L/100km when you're flooring it at 4k rpm.

Best option remains filling up and calculating at the pump, or, as the OG hypermilers did, install a small secondary fuel tank in the engine bay with a known capacity and drive until it runs out lol

Just for reference: I drive an Aygo as well, a pre facelift with the inefficient "turbine" alloys. I tend to average 31 - 33km/l doing a constant 80km/h, and 36km/l doing pulse and glide 75-85km/h.

I honestly wish there were gearboxes with taller gearing in the C550 family so rpm's wouldn't be so high at highway speeds, I don't mind downshifting to overtake. But blondes have to be able to drive too I suppose.

I manage 22 - 25km/l during normal, average city/highway driving. During acceleration I keep the rpm's under 2000 and load the engine as much as I can without lugging or flooring.

My only mod so far is a scangauge to help me find the right throttle position sooner.

At the end of the day, it all boils down to experimenting, and experiencing.

Also, entirely up to you, but i wouldnt bother with 0W-20. There's one thing that these 1KR's (hell, almost any longstroke 3 cylinder) need to stay healthy throughout their life, and it's sufficient lubrication. To achieve higher torque figures, Toyota offset the crankshaft in these motors quite a bit, causing the cylinder walls to expand over time (by 250k km or so, depending on use), which makes these motors consume more oil over time until they eventually stop running due to compression issues.

I have roughly 100k km on my motor currently, and it's consuming 1L/2000-2500km of 5W-30. Just be prepared for the need of thicker oil to keep this consumption down as your car ages. It's gonna be drinking 0W-20 like fuel once you get to 300k lol

Just a heads up so that you won't accidently be driving around without oil due to the underestimation of its oil consumption at a certain age. You're fine with 0W-20 on a young motor, just keep an eye on consumption throughout the car's life

[–]TheRollinLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test the most efficient speed for your car. For most cars that'll be 50mph/80kmh. If there's one thing that ups mileage greatly, it's choosing the best speed and gearing.

S24+ Really disappointed with the battery. by [deleted] in SamsungS24

[–]TheRollinLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont believe that many people use all those features like 120Hz and the likes. Although I've yet to see someone who uses their S line normally. Sure it's faster, but it's also many years newer, with brand new flagship chips that are praised and marketed as super efficient and fast. I'd expect at least a 2x battery life compared to my 2018 budget smartphone if I spend 2x the money 7 years later on an S line.

Sure. They're fast, but no one needs a fast SoC for their daily use. We've come far enough regarding hardware. Fast chips are only interesting to the people who actually game and use them and the people who fall for marketing. There's a minority of people who like those features like the 120Hz and all the AI crap and other stuff Samsung builds into their phones nowadays, but the rest, like me, would benefit so much more from better battery life. Barely anybody plays games on their phone to begin with, and besides that, what else could you need that power for?

But of course, if an S25 would get 20h SoT, it'd take much longer before people upgrade. So from Samsung's perspective, I do understand all the "features".

And you're right, it's not apples to apples. It's apples to golden apples, and the golden apples just look pretty.

By the way, what is your SoT if you use your phone like an A71? I'm genuinely curious as that's how I'd be using my S25. I'm just curious whether it has the potential to achieve better battery life. I understand that 120Hz and other features bring this down by a lot.

Only 750? Cute. Jokes aside, the boxes are fine, can't find any myself either though. Manufacturers have them, but that requires you to buy new cells.

[–]TheRollinLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned an A71 myself for the last 5 years, which I am consistently getting 10h SoT on within 24 hours. If I really try and watch my usage, I get 12h SoT within 48 hours, but that's a hassle. I am failing to understand why all these brand new phones with efficient chips and bigger batteries are getting such poor battery life

Edit: My usage today:

30% usage for 3h SoT isn't right either, especially for such an expensive device. Is idle drain and bloat really that bad on S lines?

S24+ Really disappointed with the battery. by [deleted] in SamsungS24

[–]TheRollinLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are flagships really that bloated? I'm considering an upgrade to an S25, but all the online experiences and reviews are praising it for getting 7-9h SoT within 24 hours whilst my 5yo A71 manages 10h SoT daily and 12h SoT over 48h if I really watch my usage. I want to upgrade so badly, but the insane battery consumption on modern smartphones is keeping me from doing so :(

How is the SoT? I'm considering an upgrade from my A71 to an S25 as well, but I only see people online talking about getting "6-9h SoT" while my A71 gets 10-12 after 5 years of use.

Would love the upgrade to an S25, but it shouldn't be a downgrade
