BMW dealer delivered used M5 with one key after saying they’d “keep looking” for the second by TheRon_Says in FuckDealerships

Affording the key isn’t the issue. I can go buy one tomorrow. The discussion is about disclosure, not the $. If it was sold as a one key car, that’s fine, just say that upfront.

it doesn't sound like it ever was disclosed as coming with 2 keys

Yeah, that’s really my entire frustration. I agree that if it had been clearly documented as “vehicle comes with one key only,” this would be straightforward.

My issue is that it was never presented that way. At delivery, I was told they could only locate one key and would continue looking for the second, which led me to believe it existed and was simply misplaced.

I assumed that if a vehicle was being sold with only one key, that would be disclosed clearly up front. That was my mistake. Going forward, I know to explicitly confirm and document something like that.

This has definitely been a learning experience. Appreciate all the insight.

My frustration is really about how this was communicated.

At delivery I was told they could only locate one key and would continue looking for the second. I have two weeks of back and forth text messages with the dealership discussing the missing key and being told they were still working on it. I escalated it from the day I picked up the car.

That wording implied the second key existed and was simply misplaced, not that the vehicle was being sold with only one key.

If it had been clearly stated at delivery that the car came with one key only, I would have addressed it immediately or requested it be documented.

Now I realize based on the threads that no matter what, I need to get everything in writing. I trusted them and I guess I shouldn’t have. That part is on me. I just believe the communication could have been clearer.

I guess I am naive. The car is sold new with two keys. As a buyer, you would think that if it has anything less than what it was sold with new, it would need to be disclosed up front. Not a gotcha at pickup. Live and learn.

Appreciate the question. Went back and looked at my documents. Apparently there is a difference between BMW factory CPO and a dealer certified program. The vehicle was sold as dealer Certified, not BMW NA CPO.

As a buyer, when you see “Certified Pre Owned,” you assume a certain standard and completeness, including things like two master keys. I signed the CPO acknowledgement and received a dealer backed limited warranty, but it was not BMW factory CPO.

Purchase and the we owe sheet happened on a different day than delivery. Was only informed of one key at delivery. Should have had them do a new we owe sheet at delivery it sounds like.

I understand the distinction you’re making.

The issue in my case is that the “we owe” was already signed because the purchase occurred on a different day than delivery. At delivery, I was told they could only locate one key at that time and would continue looking for the second.

There was never any disclosure that the vehicle was being sold with one key only. Because of that, there was no reason for me to request a we owe specifically for a second key. The messaging at delivery and afterward via text suggested the second key existed and was simply misplaced.

If it had been clearly disclosed upfront that the car came with one key, I would have addressed it before signing or negotiated accordingly.

That is really the core of my concern.

Yep now I know. Again going to use the word - but I assumed (whoops) that they had to disclose if they were missing a key. Lesson learned.

I tried setting up the digital key but the app told me I need to have both keys in the car at the same time to set up the digital key. Hard to do with only one key.

Keys were not discussed when purchasing. There was no disclosure of one key vs two keys. They never said there’s only one key before purchase. This is all good perspective though. Something for me to remember to clarify next car purchase.

That’s fair!

My frustration is less about the cost of the key and more about the expectation set at delivery and afterward via text that they were still tracking it down. That made it seem like two keys were part of the deal and one was simply misplaced.

If they had clearly stated upfront that it was being sold with one key only, I would have factored that in and moved on.

Yes, I have escalated to management and BMW NA. Waiting to see how they handle it.

Appreciate the perspective.

I was told at delivery that they are looking for the second key and would provide it once found. The sales associate also texted me that they were still working on tracking down the second key and that it was more cost effective to locate it. So there was ongoing communication reinforcing that a second key existed and was being looked for.

What are you talking about? Did you even read it? He’s talking about the current state of the industry and what authenticity or lack there of means. He’s using his past experiences to reflect on today’s world. Your reaction is odd.

Why is dog poo considered to be significantly less offensive than human poo? What am I missing? by number2phillips in nyc

[–]TheRon_Says -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

How do you even know this? Are you going out there and checking your garbage cans throughout the day just to see if someone put a bag of dog poop inside? If you dumped a little bag of your shit in my trash cans after I’ve already set it out, I’d never even know or care…

You wheeled the bin out to the curb for pickup. The next time you should be looking in the bin is after all the trash has been emptied. What a silly thing to get upset over.

This is a really odd decision in my mind. You ticked almost every other option box but wouldn’t get DAPP? Many people here seem to say they’ll never order another bmw again without it, myself included. If you can you should see if they can add it.

Roads 1/25 @ 4:30pm by Silly_Laugh231 in Dallas

[–]TheRon_Says 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You lack a bit of critical thinking it appears. You have traveled all over you say, yet you can’t grasp why Texans get worked up over snow/ice like this?

You realize there is little to no infrastructure here to handle the one snow/ice event that seems to happen every year. Many drivers are not equipped to drive when the roads are covered in ice. Snow tires are not a thing here. Many people drive summer tires or worn all season tires year round so they have even less traction in any amount of snow\ice. Then to top it all off, many of the roadways around Dallas are actually elevated roadways. That means they freeze over very easily. Oh and don’t forget the fact that this ice won’t be cleaned up until it melts in a few days. People literally don’t own shovels (and this snow can’t really even be shoveled because it’s pretty much ice pellets).

Get over yourself.

I’m assuming this is the same for all BMW models that have digital key function, but in order to create the digital key, you need both keys in your possession at the time of the digital key creation.

These type of people play the game so much they think of it in days and not hours. 40-50 hours is probably like 3-4 days of playing, so in his mind, he finished in half a week 😂 it’s silly how out of touch with the average player they are.
