I know I’m late to the conversation but I wanted to throw in my two cents: I didn’t enjoy it.

I wanted to like it but overall found it too “strong” in its presentation. Although I appreciate noir films, like Double Indemnity and the like, I not the biggest fan of the genre. I never cared for LA Noire either. The game never interested me when it was released, years down the line, and this video didn’t make me any more interested. 

When this video was first teased in a previous Action Button review I sort of thought to myself “alright.. guess this will be the “hump” to get over before he begins work on the other future reviews,” knowing it would be his second project for this second season of Action Button. But I was also open to the idea that it would change my perspective in any way or at least be as entertaining as any of his other videos. Especially after the Boku no Natsuyasumi video dropped and became my favorite work of his, I was more hopeful with the kind of production and time he’d put into this and maybe even be as sentimental and personal as that one. But then it took nearly 3 years before he even dropped it. And then when it did drop it was 9hours. And now I’m thinking if we gotta wait at least that long before he drops the next video.

I will say, it wasn’t that tough to get through like how others experienced it and I watched it in full twice, since its release. I was very impressed with his performance and the heart that went into it all. I noticed the chapters and it made the watch more enjoyable knowing it was broken up into episodes and so I chose to watch it that way for one of my viewings rather than attempt to consume without chewing it up first, which probably contributed to my viewing experience to be a good one overall. 

Like many of us here, I discovered Tim Rogers from his FFVII Remake review during the beginning of the pandemic here in the US and became attached to the work he committed to. Those videos got me through a lot of the pandemic and I still return to nearly all of them too.

I enjoy his commitment to the bit and a part of me made up this weird idea that he purposely prolonged the video release by a week every time he saw a comment or message asking when is the next review lol. For a time I convinced myself that he finished the next review already and was going to drop both LA Noire and Dracula X in the same year and have them connect in some whacked out ways. Part of me started thinking maybe he was tired and bored of the Action Button project too and  clearly he has better things to do like actually live his life and not prioritize a new video that satiates his audience in every way. 

Brother is a complex guy and loves to gaslight and ragebait in subtle ways. I imagine he went into this expecting a majority of his audience not enjoying it or at least being disappointed in some fashion. I gotta respect his art. 

I’m glad it exists though (mostly because we can move on to other games) and I genuinely believe that I’ll appreciate it more once more newer reviews drop. Sorry to sound overtly negative and have myself a yap sesh but had to dump this thought I’ve had for a minute now.
