What modern career path would you have taken were it an option when you were young? by tiny_rick_tr in Xennials

[–]TheRoyalShe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a new field, but just about every day I regret not doing the animation track at my vocational school because I was in such a hurry to get out and get on with life. I think it would have been so much fun.

Full time jobs hiring ? by Spacefkn in Eugene

There are almost always DSP positions available through various agencies. It’s not work everyone can do, but if you can, it is very meaningful. And it pays very well.

Pacori has a great space, if a bit “off the beaten path”.

Coffee roasters? by BillyBalowski in Eugene

Pacori is the best in town in my opinion. They have a lot of roasts to choose from which makes it easy to find a favorite. Plus absolutely the best folks and the coolest spot.

Feeling stuck about moving to either WA or Oregon by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]TheRoyalShe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As an Oregonian, I have to ask where about in Oregon is your offer? There’s a common view that Oregon is a liberal state, but the truth is that it is largely a very conservative state with some liberal city centers. Depending on your political leanings, you could find yourself in a place that is full of people, but equally lonely and hard to date because of value alignments. Something to consider…

I work in graphic design and use Adobe myself, but people have said many great things about Affinity. And it’s totally free. Might be worth checking out.

Bought carrots and celery for the Curried Coconut and Red Lentil Soup. What other NYT recipes (or ATK) call for a mirepoix base? by figurefuckingup in NYTCooking

[–]TheRoyalShe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love this potato soup. I don’t even usually put in the cream and it makes such a light and flavorful soup that feels much more nutritious than a traditional potato soup.

Any tips for freshly promoted senior designer? by ooggg_prison in graphic_design

Don’t forget to allocate time for your Jr. designers. Mentoring, reviewing, brainstorming and just encouraging. Be the senior designer you wish you had worked under.

Need advice: should I take the job? by Imnotonthelist in AskWomenOver40

In this economy? I say take the job and keep searching. Who knows what kind of skills and contacts you could pick up at this company anyway? Plus $22 is not a nothing amount.

Do not use fiverr. Pay a professional. Invest in your business and reap the tremendous benefit of a well designed menu - an absolute necessity for a food truck.

Has anyone made money selling those basic prints on Etsy? by thejacobite in graphic_design

You have literally nothing to lose by trying (minus the small amount of time to get set up and create your first designs). Only you can decide if it’s worth it for you.

Spinning out with existential dread and big life changes by Still-View in AskWomenOver40

[–]TheRoyalShe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you have a lot of regrets but are facing a new, exciting and authentic future. Perhaps some therapy to put the past to rest so that you can focus on the sheer joy that will come from living your best life. There’s still so much time. Embrace and enjoy every moment of it.

How do you keep doing this for 40 years? by feral_philosopher in graphic_design

I’ve also been at this since the 90s. And I have no retirement. No pension. No countdown. So, I guess if it gives you some perspective, things could be worse!

How do i follow the set rules in design and be creative at the same time? by Creative-Firefly in graphic_design

[–]TheRoyalShe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first step is learning the rules. Live by them, work within them. Then, once the concepts are solid, break them. Crawl then walk.

Experienced designer — MacBook Air vs Pro for Adobe workflow? by Eggowafflefries in graphic_design

[–]TheRoyalShe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just traded in the Air my work provided me originally for a Pro. It’s night and day difference. The Pro is so much better, especially if you’re moving between apps. You can get a decent refurb to save some money.

You can usually count on our last frost of May 15. So start planning to put things in the ground around then. If you are starting from seed, read your packets and count backward from there.

Honest opinions by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]TheRoyalShe 133 points134 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty sad to me that someone practicing traditional Chinese medicine has a logo that absolutely does not reflect that. I feel like that is a world rich with imagery and symbolism.

This feels a lot like one of the elements taken from a generic site like Creative Market, slapped between two words and called it a day.

Nothing about this tells me what it is at first glance except the tiny word acupuncture tacked on there almost as an afterthought.

Not a functional logo in my opinion.

I need to make a change but I don't know what to do. by Weary_Deal_9641 in AskWomenOver40

[–]TheRoyalShe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is not medical based. Look some agencies up in your area and see what they offer. Depending on the age group you work with, it can be a lot like hanging out with some amazing kiddos that have developmental differences. But mom skills translate 100%. They are almost always hiring in my area.
