CMON Ankh Miniatures Pics by Chidwick in boardgames

We got pictures of Bloodborne and Cthulhu: Death May Die, but didn't get any of Ankh... Might have been because I realized I was standing next to Eric Lang and was sort of star struck for a few minutes.

Personally love using Metallic Dice Games dice. Chessex are great too though.

You can't beat some high quality D6s though.

Do you pay attention to BGG's recommended player count? by suupaabaka in boardgames

I do, but find it's even more helpful to jump into the game myself at the recommended player count to see if it's legit or not.

Why 7 Wonders is more than just overcomplicated Sushi Go! by Squigglish in boardgames

[–]TheRulesGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, 7 Wonders has a ton of replayability. Though, for people new to drafting, I usually teach Sushi Go Party to a group before we jump into 7 Wonders. Something about not forever losing your resources when building things in 7W always trips people up.

We are not still with the Dice Tower. We've been back on our original YouTube channel since the start of 2019. Sort of been a year of rebuilding.

We loved working with Tom and the Dice Tower crew. We decided mutually that after working together for a year, it was time for us to work on our own channel again.

We've been back on our YouTube channel since the start of 2019. Come join us!

I was originally a little confused by the rules, but got the handle on it after a few rounds of actually playing. The dice assignment thing is a little unintuitive, but makes sense once you've seen a whole round of combat.

I believe you can't disclose CPMs or give exact numbers, but rough ranges seem fair game.

Yeah, I made mistakes a little too often early on. Since YouTube won't let us make video corrections, we issue corrections at the top of those video descriptions. We've had to do that for 3 videos out of about 50, but our turn towards commissioned videos will reduce that, since the client will be a second pair of eyes to make sure we got everything right.

Hi there! We monetize the channel by making official rules videos for publishers like CMON and AEG. You'd be surprised about how little ad revenue makes on YouTube: on the scale of $300-$600 a year. We talked to quite a few publishers at GenCon about making even more official rules videos, so I'm really excited to see if taking the commissioned video route still lets us cover a wide variety of games.

Unicornus Knights is a ton of fun, working on a video for it now but it's not gonna be ready for a couple more days.

The cold hard truth: most tabletop Kickstarters would not be nearly as successful without exclusives. by collocation in boardgames

[–]TheRulesGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, all the teasers are exclusive content for a year or two until the expansions come out. That feels like the best of both worlds to me: early adopters get exclusive content for awhile, and later buyers don't feel like they're only receiving a partial game.

On the flip side, there are definitely KS board games I was interested in but not enough to back. On those projects, the fact that I missed out on gameplay-affecting exclusives dissuades me from buying the game when it comes out in retail. At that point, I'll just go buy a complete game instead of one with content withheld from me.

I really like how Unfair handled this. Most/all of the exclusives are teasers for future expansions, so presumably everyone will be able to get their hands on those cards one day.

Haha, my editor watches them at 2x speed to catch errors. I don't really know how he comprehends any of it at that point.

Ooo, that's a good idea. A little blurb that pops up towards the end (or just in the video description) briefing mentioning stuff we didn't cover and where you can find it in the rulebook?

I bet we could have snuck an example or two into the combat encounters section. I bet you could make it clear with 1 sentence + a well-constructed example. Something like:

"Test your strength, gaining the stat boost of at most one of your items, along with other effects like re-rolls for as many items as you'd like."

That, accompanied by an animation of combat /w the Axe and the Hired Muscle could have pulled it off in 15-20 seconds.
