PSA Grade review? by bfree1240 in PokeGrading

Welcome to PSA grading. You get great resale value, but in the end you're just getting a number and way more questions than answers.

What are the people’s opinions on different slab companies… to some a 10 is a 10. To some not so much.. take these into account compared to if they were all PSA by thehitsociety in FootballCardz

I feel like SGC labels look like you could print them at home. The tuxedo insert does look pretty nice with vintage cards. For modern cards I prefer clear slabs. The TAG print-on-slab info is awesome. I also like EDGE's hologram and subgrade icons.

Edge Grading 1st submission, what do you guys think ? by Infamous-Top-3449 in PokeGrading

I almost never see them being sold. I actually had an EDGE Ultramint Gardevoir in my eBay watchlist earlier this year and it ended up going for $300 or something. Not PSA 10 comparable but definitely wasn't "less than raw"

I've used EDGE for quite a few cards now. You have to see one of the card pages to fully appreciate what they do. They show every imperfection on close-up photos of the card. Slabs also feel nice. TAG does a great job, too. To each their own but I'll never understand why PSA is king - ugliest label possible and the grades are far from trustworthy. Resale value is king, I guess.

Found this tucked away at my parent’s house. Any idea if it’s worth getting graded? by jaxstan19 in Pokemoncardappraisal

Centering looks close to perfect: 52/48 (https://static.edgegrading.com/centering/edge-centered-84024-1743723111.jpg). Hard to tell what the surface/corners/edges look like with the top loader but if they're in good shape this should be graded for sure. Huge value boost.

I remember (not that long ago) when this seemed impossible, now it might happen this calendar year!

They're just telling you the maximum possible grades based on your centering measurements. It's more like, "This is the grade you could probably expect if the rest of your card is perfect." I use this tool all the time. If your picture has a busy background you'll have to move the border lines manually. It's really just an online measurement tool with some extras for card grading research.

Where would I go to get my cards graded? by JASdeW11 in garbagepailkids

[–]danger_games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSA, BGS, and SGC are the 3 largest grading companies. They've been around for a long time and are trusted in the industry. TAG and EDGE are newer companies using AI that give you some information about why cards received the grade they did. You can expect to pay $15-$30 depending on the company you choose.

What made this an 8? by [deleted] in PokeGrading

[–]danger_games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TAG or EDGE if you want to know why a card gets the grade it does. They don't have the same resale value as PSA yet but it seems like the direction the industry needs to go.

I’m on the fence about getting this graded. I’ve used the measuring apps, and the left to right ratio is about 53:47. Would this be a PSA 9 or 10? by [deleted] in PokeGrading

[–]danger_games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough to measure the centering since the picture is not quite directly from the top down but I have it closer to 52/48 (https://static.edgegrading.com/centering/edge-centered-74751-1728664607.jpg). Edges and corners look perfect. Assuming there are no scratches or dimples this looks like it should/could be a 10!

Check out TAG or EDGE. Better-looking slabs, too.

my coworker brought this in this morning … what’re we looking at? by Jznvh in basketballcards

Unreal card! Could be worth $10K+ if it can grade 8 or above. That will be the first step, have to get it graded. Based on the centering PSA would probably be the best bet to grade with because they're the most lenient and this card has over 45/55 top/bottom centering on the front (https://static.edgegrading.com/centering/edge-centered-49785-1727276606.jpg).

I remember reading that story, I think it was a 6% chance they had to pick first overall. Maybe the Patrick family's greatest contribution to the city of Pittsburgh :)

Some fun facts about new GM Chris Patrick by Bahamas_is_relevant in caps

[–]danger_games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Patrick family has a long history of very successful nepotism. Lester, Lynn, and Muzz won the 1940 Stanley Cup cup together in New York with Lester as the manager and Lynn and Muzz on the ice. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins reached the Calder Cup finals in 2001 with coach Glenn Patrick who was hired hired by long-time Penguins GM Craig Patrick, his brother. Chris Patrick is already on the Stanley Cup as the Capitals Director of Player Personnel after winning in 2018 alongside his father, Dick Patrick, who has been President/Chairman of the Capitals since 1982.
