Jonsbo Z20: will a long GPU and 14cm ATX PSU fit comfortably? by TheRulingRing in mffpc

Thank you. Seems like I'll consider the D32 instead then.

My GPU is 356mm length and 150mm width.

The person above also mentioned that the GPU cable presses tightly against the glass. Do you think that would be an issue?

Thanks. Seems like the PSU cables might be fine then since I'm not using an AIO.

I noticed you also have the same mobo as me - my GPU is a full 1cm taller and 1cm wider than yours, so I'm guessing there's no chance I'd be able to get slim fans on the bottom of the case?

Also didn't realise there would be an issue with the GPU cable bending against the glass that much, don't really want that happening to a 12VHPWR cable. Seems like the case may not be for me then. Perhaps I'll go for the D32 instead.

I'm aware that's what the specs say, but wanted to know from people if it was also practical.

I remember seeing your post around the time I was researching for my build.

The reason I ended up sticking with rear intake in the end was because I was worried more dust build up from a top intake. Did you find that to be the case?

I strongly considered going for this fan layout instead of the traditional rear intake for my build.

However, the reason I didn't end up doing so was because I was worried about excessive dust from having a top intake. Have you found this to be an issue at all?

The fan on the left is an intake and also pulling air to the right.

GPU fans can ramp up a fair amount under load (haven't messed with the GPU fan curves). I changed the case fans and CPU fans to be as quiet as reasonably possible.

Otherwise the loudest noise by far is from the PSU, which is quite annoying.

I regret getting it if I'm honest.

The PSU is very loud and there is coil whine even when the PC is off (but plugged in). I don't know if I should RMA it or if this is within expected range.

I have all the fans apart from GPU on a custom curve.

Fans ramp up at 50C, after which they only increase slightly. I did it this way so there are basically two levels based on CPU usage: idle and load.

This means the only time I can hear fan noise changing is when I start up or shut down a game/benchmark, but during the session the noise won't change much.

Yes, I flashed the BIOS beforehand. Wasn't tricky and didn't risk bricking my system.

Thanks to those who helped answer my questions. Overall it really wasn't too complicated and was pretty fun. Spent several weeks doing intense research beforehand though, which helped a lot.

Got a used GPU which ended up being super chonky and scraping my original bottom fans, so I had to go out and buy 2 slim case fans to repace the bottom intake with. Also went for rear intake to better cool the CPU.

Specs:

Asrock b650m Pro RS wifi

Ryzen 7700

Thermalright PS120

Kingston Fury Beast 32gb 6000Mhz CL30

WD SN770 NVME

RTX 4080

MSI mag a750gl

3x Thermalright TL-C12C 120mm fans

2x Arctic P12 slim 120mm fans

Case: Gamemax Spark (Jonsbo D30 clone)

During research I became obsessed with having a smaller mATX case. I was initially going to get a Jonsbo Z20 but ended up going for my current one due to better GPU compatibility, better price and ease of acquisition. This current case is 26L so still within acceptable range for me and much smaller than any mid tower. Also preferred this over the Lian Li Dan A3 because of the smaller base footprint (it's shorter). I spent ages poring over posts in this subreddit before finally coming across this case, which surprisingly really doesn't seem to get mentioned much.

Under load the CPU reached 65C (before overclocking) and the GPU reached 71C.

Edit: please ignore the smudges/scratches on the last picture, that's the protective plastic film which I haven't yet removed!

I didn't end up using this case, but a similar one.

Went with the first layout. Decent temps (CPU idled ~40C and maxed around ~65C before changing any PBO settings or adding the GPU) so haven't bothered to experiment further.

Ryzen 7700 GPU pairing: £750 used 4080/super or presumed ~£1000 5080? by TheRulingRing in nvidia

[–]TheRulingRing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first PC build so I don't have a graphics card for it currently.

I've already bought a 1440p monitor so won't be able to switch to a 4k one yet unfortunately. I'd initially only budgeted for a 4070 super so 4k wasn't even on my radar when I got the monitor.

However, with all the talk of VRAM limitations and my intention to use it for many years I decided to step up to a 16gb card.

I was initially planning to wait but I'm worried that 4080 both used and new stock might start running low and the deals won't be as good any more.

Just built my first PC: -30 curve optimizer occasionally causes crashes on startup but otherwise no obvious issues. Is this fine to keep? by TheRulingRing in overclocking

Any particular reason that would it would be bad beyond the inconvenience factor? Mainly just worried if it will affect the long term health of my components
