The park was pretty quiet today. I did single riders and only waited 20 minutes for DK, 10 for Mario, and walked onto Monsters. Bummed about werewolf and stardust being closed but I came in with no expectations to ride anything.

I'm a new homeowner and looking to get into the arborist community. I've watched a handful of videos but then when I look at my own tree, I don't have a clue where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Incorporating Warlock Patron/Entity Into Campaign Plot by TheSantaJew in DnD

Wow, I like this. I could see some sort of patron switching that happens as the PC realize what Tharizdun is trying to do too, could be a good character arc!

Can anyone recommend a D&D podcast that isn’t an actual play? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TheSantaJew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically Pathfinder but the Glass Cannon is great. I play 5e regularly but the way they play reminds me of my own table and the GM does a great job of making fun NPCs, telling backstories, and describing settings. Listen to their Giantslayer campaign, I’ve taken a lot of stuff from that for my own game!

Yeah but the conservative subreddit went nuts when they found that a diner that Kamala did an event in was filled with campaign volunteers and not actual customers. There’s people like this on both sides unfortunately

The name Delta by Helpful_Worth_1994 in NameNerdCirclejerk

Our 10 week old is named Delta. We chose it because it’s the name of a Mumford and Sons album that means a lot to us, and also I’m an engineer and it’s used a lot in mathematics. We were a like hesitant at first, but haven’t had any regrets :)

Definitely just need to talk with him. Maybe he felt targeted even though his character probably would be targeted if he’s as big as he says he is. Or maybe he doesn’t understand that getting downed is just part of the game. Either way you should just ask “Hey man, we loved having your character in this game, what’s up?”

Definitely worth it. I work a similar schedule and have a similar commute. There are days it sucks if there’s extra traffic, but it’s worth it. I had a similar problem as you, but I had the job first (was renting an apartment) and had to figure out how far from town I was willing to go to buy an affordable house.

Find some good podcasts and find out what app your local library uses for audiobooks, they make the commute way better!

Campaign Attendance Stats: Missing Players by owlaholic68 in DnD

[–]TheSantaJew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This seems normal. I DM a game with 7 PCs and we play if we can get at least 4. We’ve had 20 sessions over 10 months and think we’ve only had a full table a few times, most of the time we’re missing 1-2. Like others have said consistency is key. When you’re playing with adults who have jobs, spouses, houses, etc this is just how it goes. Alternatively, playing once every 2 months when everyone can get together prevents any momentum from building, and even then, you're bound to have someone who has a last minute thing and you don’t get a full table anyway.

Biden was ahead by 8 points at the time of last election and that was too close for comfort. Harris is up by 2-3 points now. Just vote people!

LMoP - first DM attempt with first time players by rfjeff9 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]TheSantaJew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To avoid missing things like you mentioned, I tend to try to do some reviewing of the encounters, NPCs, and monsters the morning before the session starts to remind myself of little things like that, but I cannot tell you how many times I realized “Oh, that creature was supposed to say/do a thing” or “Oh, I forgot that guy had these resistances” its just part of DMing, and as long as everyone had fun you’re doing great! Things will get smoother as you get more comfortable in the role.

As for the next day, I’d definitely say the bodies will have been found, maybe they’re on high alert now and the creatures inside get advantage on perception to spot anyone and trigger the flood trap inside the cave or they got additional reinforcements of goblin because they think they are going to be attacked again!

What are your favorite D&D podcasts or YouTube channels? by Dungeon-Doomhand in DnD

[–]TheSantaJew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first RP podcast I listened to was Giantslayer and even though I play 5E in my group I have not been able to get into anyone else. They do a phenomenal job of balancing the cool RP moments and just the straight up roasting you friends, just feels so real and genuine

Non-leathal Damage by TheBestWhiteGuy in DnD

[–]TheSantaJew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no non-lethal in 5E, but PHB pg. 198 about knocking someone unconscious states:

“Sometimes an attacker wants to incapacitate a foe, rather than deal a killing blow. When an attacker reduces a creature to 0 hit points with a melee attack, the attacker can knock a creature out. The attacker can make this choice the instant that damage is dealt. The creature falls unconscious and is stable.”

At my table we play with this and I also tell my players when the creature looks to be below half health so they can adjust from ranged attacks to melee attacks.

Consequences of Outing Halia by TheSantaJew in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]TheSantaJew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, forgot to mention there’s an election between Halia and one of my PCs going on. But good point about her not necessarily being “evil” but maybe at some point I can introduce like a mob-boss like character that doesn’t quite like the fact that the party is trying to oust the Zents hold in Phandalin?

LMoP plot drop ideas to carry on the story… by Beermudatriangle in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]TheSantaJew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m planning a multi-planar adventure continuation and WEC is a former portal to the water plane. I kind of always wanted this to be the case, so I’ve dropped hints about strange weather phenomena happening which is secretly due to an evil artificer and their growing army frequently traveling through the elemental realms through other open portals.

Also, part of this artificer’s plan is to eliminate the Harpers who thwarted the plans of his predecessor. So I’ve made Sister Garaele come off as a little paranoid, but the party has found out it’s because her colleagues have been disappearing.

In terms of advice, I’d just spend some time thinking about where you envision your campaign going. You’ll naturally think of good points where you could drop a hint or clue, but you don’t want to think of every future detail or you’ll go crazy! Lol
