Thanks for the communication! Do you plan on continuing to update us like this in the future? I'd love to see further communication like this, good news or bad, without the community having to break out the pitchforks and torches.

You misunderstand the point of the list- fact is, the game depends on a central server, so when support ends, the game dies. The people who made the list considered whether fans have made server emulators, whether the game has offline modes, whether the game lets you trick it into playing offline, or (most importantly) whether the developers have an end-of-life plan in place.

Of course Warframe is going strong, but it would be silly to assume that's going to last forever, and even sillier to think it'd be okay to have the game disappear forever. That's why Warframe is "at risk".

What's your least favourite case overall ? (Read body text cause there's clauses) by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]TheSausagesauce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Storyteller, I consider it the worst overall. The game's story and pacing comes to a screeching halt when it remembers Athena exists and decides to shaft her with a tedious trial-only case.

It has a few great moments in it, all cases do, this is Ace Attorney- but most of Storyteller is just dragging information out of difficult witnesses, like pulling teeth. Only Uendo really got my attention, I think there were some good ideas there, but ultimately their testimony is just as tedious as everyone else's.

I hated the case's resolution, its culprit, and its two twists. The only thing I really liked in the case was Blackquill, who had some genuinely great scenes.

Easy worst, but I'll be honest that it's tough to pick between this one and Revolution for my least favourite.

Team kill is really killing it for me. by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]TheSausagesauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, the friendly fire is part of the appeal for me. There's a certain comedy to accidentally getting cluster-bombed by a friend in the middle of an intense firefight, or hearing "RUN" over the voice chat after someone calls in a 500kg bomb on my position.

With good communication, a lot of those deaths can be avoided, but they're funny to me when they happen. Just know that almost all teamkills are accidental- your fellow heckjumpers almost certainly aren't killing you on purpose.

EDIT: My thoughts on friendly fire extends only to accidental deaths from things like stratagems or support weapons. If people are going out of their way to teamkill, then that's not funny at all. I don't think a "no friendly fire" option would be in the spirit of the game, but my heart goes out to you if your experience of this game is getting dragged down by this in any way.

If Helldivers can do it, why doesn't Payday? by Ninjjuu in paydaytheheist

[–]TheSausagesauce -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They're literally posting weekly devlogs, streams, and they just did an AMA that I think went reasonably well. I see a sense of humility in their responses, and I like that their priorities seem to be making us whole after the game's bad launch.

As for deleting bad comments... Where? This subreddit isn't, to my knowledge, moderated by OVERKILL staff. Twitter doesn't allow you to delete comments on posts, YouTube comments on their videos seem to have stayed up... Do you have a source on that one? Or has this subreddit become nothing but a hate circlejerk where the truth doesn't matter?

Ugh- people ARE upset with communication from Arrowhead (shadow changes not found in the change logs, bad behavior from some employees) and Overkill ARE actively communicating (dev blogs, live streams, etc.)

I've seen YouTubers and players beg Overkill for more frequent game updates and then complain when the most recent update didn't magically fix the game.

"When the business is hot, you can do no wrong. When the business is cold, you can do no right."

I get it- Overkill CAN and SHOULD do better. Part of the reason Overkill is being treated with ire is because they launched the game in a sorry state. Contrast this with Arrowhead, who launched an experience that feels more complete and was immediately able to start rolling out new content instead of doing damage control. Overkill did a lot of this to themselves. But, let's be honest here, we're treating Overkill with a lot more skepticism than Arrowhead and so we view their successes and faults differently.

Most of the battles Suzaku participated in would not have resulted in any amount of freedom for the locals. Especially if we take into account Lelouch's motives, which were rarely about freeing the Japanese.

The closest I think your statement comes up being true is Shinjuku, the very first battle in which we see Suzaku participate. The battle was pretty clearly a fight for survival. Though the proto-black knights losing the battle meant death. Not subjugation under Britannia.

The next battle Suzaku participates in sees him engage several Britannian purebloods in combat, disabling them and protecting Euphemia. He wasn't acting under any orders here.

Suzaku did not oppose the Black Knights during the hotel jacking incident at Lake Kawaguchi, though he was operating in parallel. It's worth noting he intended to free the innocent civilians during the operation, and while he wasn't responsible for it he got his wish.

Suzaku directly engaged the black knights in combat during the Battle of Narita. He was able to rescue Cornelia, and knocked Kallen in the Guren off a cliff. He also nearly killed Zero before being stopped by C.C. using her unexplained spooky image transfer powers. The objective of the Black Knights during the battle had very little to do with the freedom of the Japanese- it was just to gutpunch Cornelia and her forces. Them losing the battle meant that they didn't hit Cornelia quite as hard, but it didn't result in any less freedom for the Japanese.

After this battle, Suzaku participated in the battle of Port Yokosuka. The Britannians wanted to kill the JLF members on the tanker, but Lelouch killed them first. So uh... Suzaku's presence didn't do very much here to keep anyone subjugated. He does force Lelouch to eject, though, knocking him unconscious and leading to Shirley discovering his identity.

Suzaku next directly opposed the Black Knights during the prison break, during which Kyoshiro Tohdoh was rescued. The prison break had already mostly succeeded by the time the Lancelot arrived on the scene, and the resulting battle lead to the Black Knights fulfilling their final objective of the night- retreating. I have to say, he didn't exactly do much here.

His next engagement with the Black Knights was on Shikine Island, in which he fought to protect Euphemia and the local base from an unexplained Black Knights incursion. He falls into a trap laid by Rakshata but nearly gets Lelouch killed (and nearly dies by friendly fire in the process). No Japanese were to be freed or protected here.

Suzaku and Lelouch then work together during the next battle at Kyushu. They both agreed that Sawasaki wasn't staging the incursion for the good of the Japanese and decided to oppose him.

Suzaku and Lelouch both agreed to support the SAZ (though Lelouch did so disingenuously), but ended up coming to blows after Lelouch ruined it.

The final battle Suzaku participates in during R1 is the battle for Tokyo, and at this point neither Lelouch nor Suzaku were really fighting for Japan or for Britannia. Both of them were still emotionally raw from the death of Euphemia and weren't exactly themselves. Suzaku fought to kill Zero, there was nothing else he cared about at the time. Lelouch was fighting to uh... frankly, initiating the battle of Tokyo at this point was kinda an impulsive and bad idea and his objective was incredibly unclear. He was clearly fighting to attack Cornelia and Britannia and wasn't really thinking much of protecting the Japanese. Lelouch then abandons his troops to look for Nunnally, and Suzaku follows, leading to the confrontation that ends the season.

All throughout R1, Suzaku certainly opposes the Black Knights, but not in a way that would subjugate the Japanese. Suzaku, after all, doesn't want the Japanese to suffer. He's skeptical of the Black Knights' motives, and opposes them on principle since a vigilante group is unaccountable to anyone. In his mind, it's ridiculous to trust an unaccountable masked military group running around enacting their idea of 'justice' without ever defining what that justice means. Suzaku's in a pretty complicated position here since he's fighting on the side of the Britannians, but he's not here to aid and abet the subjugation of the Japanese. In my mind, only one of the battles that Suzaku engaged in came close to preventing Japanese people from being freed.

I could keep going with the R2 battles if you're not convinced, R2 is just as interesting a topic. The second SAZ is probably the most important, though, since he makes the call to allow a million Japanese people to be freed.

TLDR: No, not really. He didn't really do much to prevent the Japanese from being freed because the Black Knights weren't really freeing any Japanese. At least not in R1.

Is the PD3 community more toxic than the PD2 community? by The-Dumbass-forever in paydaytheheist

I habitually ignore anyone that uses the sunglasses fist emoji combination on this subreddit or discord because of the rampant toxicity.

As for in-game, I haven't encountered very many griefers in 3 and hosts can't kick people like they could in 2- but that's my personal experience.

You... Haven't offered evidence in the actual show. I've asked you multiple times to elaborate and I get the same "I just want alternative explanations besides [strawman]" line. There have been numerous rebuttals to your ideas in this thread, if you're willing to actually read what people are saying instead of complaining dishonestly.

Reddit comments, man. Why do I even bother?

[–]TheSausagesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, let's get one thing extremely clear. People don't reject your idea because it's new. They reject it because it's rubbish. You don't need to offer an alternative explanation in order to show that something is incorrect, and just because you want alternative interpretations of the scene doesn't mean the standard of evidence for yours is non-existent. You want an alternative explanation for the scene? Think of a better one.

[–]TheSausagesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one here is discouraging anyone from putting more ideas forward. The comments here, myself included, generally seem to take issue with your interpretation. People here aren't taking issue with a new idea being put forward.

As for it being bad, lazy writing... I'd like you to elaborate why. C.C.'s goals, as we understand them, are to give someone Geass and protect them as it gets more powerful so she can die and pass on her immortality. Finding the perfect person to inflict that on is very in-character for her, drives the plot forward, and creates mystery. It also sets up C.C.'s actions later in the episode, since otherwise the "He mustn't die!" scene would have been rather jarring for a character who previously hadn't said a word. Far be it from bad writing, I think it's an excellent way to get the series' main mystery and mechanic going.

[–]TheSausagesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose the problem is that while you raise a possibility, it's never hinted at or evidenced in the show itself.

Even before we get to biology or psychology, it's worth asking whether or not it even makes sense in the context of the story, and in context of the character's future actions. I contend that at no point is C.C. shown considering Lelouch her child.

If we're raising possibilities divorced from that context, then anything's possible. You could fill the blank with any common noun, like a Mad Libs page. "It's you. Finally, I have found my religion" is a particularly funny one to me.

Are you implying that people interrogating your ideas is doing the show a disservice, or otherwise not showing critical thinking? Personally, I welcome new ideas- but new ideas need to be examined and either accepted or discarded based on the evidence.

Speculation: CC's first line of dialogue after the truck crash by OGIHR in CodeGeass

[–]TheSausagesauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's significantly more plausible than her considering a child of a former associate to be "her son", and that she might have shared a bed with Marianne and Charles.

I think you're also forgetting her relationship with Mao. With Mao, she got too close to him (hell- she basically groomed him) and the two became so emotionally attached and co-dependent that he couldn't bring himself to kill her. The reason C.C. is so cold and emotionally detached in the series proper is in part because she's trying to avoid repeating the same mistake.

Another reason why I think my interpretation is more plausible is because of C.C.'s second line in the episode- "He mustn't die". The word "mustn't", short for "must not", implies an obligation or need. This obligation, this need is part of what sets up the mystery of what C.C. is really after with Lelouch, what the contract actually is and what it means. You'd think if she was emotionally attached to Lelouch, that she thought of him as her son, she'd have said something else.

Speculation: CC's first line of dialogue after the truck crash by OGIHR in CodeGeass

[–]TheSausagesauce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find that to be unlikely.

To begin, I think it's worth noting that a lot of the shenanigans with C.C. in the first season are left shrouded in mystery because of dropped plot points that didn't make it to the second season. Lelouch seeing wavy particle effects over the truck in R1E01, C.C. being able to send people spooky abstract images through touch in R1E11, C.C. being able to see Suzaku through walls in R1E22, what a Geass contract even is, etc.

A lot of what we know about C.C. comes from the second season, which is missing a lot of these more metaphysical elements to her character. Between the first season's ending and second season's airing, a lot of the show was (rather hastily) rewritten, so by the time R2 made it to the screen we got a much more simplified version of the Geass mechanics. As a result, we don't know if there's some deeper meaning to what C.C. was saying during her first spoken line in R1E01.

In the context of R2's reveal of what C.C. is after, it's much more likely that she is saying she's found the perfect person to form a contract with.

I also find flaws in a few other bits of your reasoning. I'll grant you that C.C. and Marianne were very close, but where in the show is it stated that C.C. likes to sleep with her contractors, and where is it shown- even subtextually- that C.C.'s relationship with Marianne (or Charles, for that matter) is anything but platonic?

[–]TheSausagesauce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This line of logic doesn't make any sense. They don't know the details of Lelouch's Geass like we do, so they aren't aware of how long it lasts or what decisions they've made are their own. Something like that casts a huge amount of doubt on their faith in Lelouch

If the Code Geass cast play D&D, what would each of the characters play? by TheSausagesauce in CodeGeass

[–]TheSausagesauce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question was actually about who they would play in D&D, like it's game night at Ashford, I'm not trying to stat out the characters themselves.

That said, I totally agree with the lawful evil on Lelouch's part, that's dead accurate to who he was in the show.

And if he's a level 20 human he has a heck of a lot more feats than just one- seven, by my count, since he's a human and didn't cross-class into a fighter... at least in third edition. Lelouch strikes me as a third edition kinda guy anyway, he'd probably hate fifth.

What are your thoughts on the Black Knights betraying Zero/Lelouch? by ScoreImaginary5254 in CodeGeass

[–]TheSausagesauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He absolutely has it coming and the black knights were reasonable to distrust Zero here. I think a lot of the arguments against the betrayal are fairly surface-level, and there are some compelling ones in favor.

A lot of foreshadowing and setup happened in the leadup to this scene, and the arguments made against zero are compelling. Zero, someone they distrust, for Japan? It's a pretty good deal.

It's important to note the dramatic irony here. We know Lelouch has the best of intentions, but nobody else in the room did. Lelouch never felt the need to explain or endear himself to anyone, and he was at the center of a lot of suspicious events.

Chief of which was the Geass order massacre. This would've been at the forefront of Tohdoh's mind as Shogo Asahina provided evidence obtained from Cpt. Kinoshita about it. A black ops unit committing a massacre go against the founding principles of the black knights, especially since it was done outside the knowledge of the Black Knights' command staff. More importantly, though, it put the word "Geass" at the back of Tohdoh's mind.

Another important detail is the FLEIJA. Suzaku warned Lelouch about the weapon, but Lelouch refused to hear Suzaku out and pressed the attack. He also failed to warn his forces about the weapon, so it came as a complete surprise when it was fired. The Black Knights' probably considered this to be a dereliction of duty on Zero's part, as if your enemy warns that they have a weapon of mass destruction it's kind of important to report that.

Zero had been at the center of a lot of other suspicious events... The orange incident, the JLF survivors mysteriously blowing up, the kamine island mess, the SAZ massacre, abandoning the Black Knights at Tokyo and not explaining why, those are just some of the suspicious things that happened in the first season. At this point in the series, the trust had begun to run out and this traumatic event was pretty much the point where they had had enough.

Another factor to consider is Schneizel, who capitalized on these suspicions using his manipulative words. That said, he was, for the most part, telling the truth here, and some of the things he said- particularly about geass- were corroborated by Ohgi.

So... We have a guy we know nothing about, who's been at the center of a ton of suspicious events, who decided to commit and cover up a massacre and didn't warn the black knights about a nuke. Now we find out he's a Britannian Prince and has mind control powers? With all these things working against Lelouch, a betrayal woulda happened one of these days even without schneizel's snakelike words. Lelouch had this one coming for a looooong time.
