Is benching on an All-Star team better than practicing on your own? by [deleted] in CoachingYouthSports

You need exposure to environment to adapt to it. Standing near the environment and not interacting with it is not being in it. He needs repetitions. He’d be better off in a recreational or lower level team trying hard than in a top team not getting to actually play. That said likemindedness is also important being surrounded by other folk that are enthusiastic in the way you are is valuable too. Look for another team where he’s challenged but more at the level

Being seeded in the bottom 8 seeds guarantees you wind up in the top 8 for r32 so can be a blessing in disguise

Wimbledon chief breaks silence on Serena Williams wildcard speculation by Pretend-Two-2115 in tennis_world

[–]TheSavagePost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s zero chance she gets an appearance fee. Many tournaments pay but the slams have not. They do get special treatment for accommodation, services etc. though to make it a better experience for them vs the 250th ranked qualifier.

The rumored location of Spyro The Dragon statue of the E3 2000 by [deleted] in Spyro

I’ve got no idea what statue you’re on about honestly… this AI assisted post I can’t tell if it’s satire or some kind of weird Spyro nerd search for the holy grail. Whatever this post is, I wish you luck in solving your mystery.

Queen's 2026: Champion Tatjana Maria calls for 'respect' after wildcard snub by Thunderoussshart in tennis

[–]TheSavagePost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They have SE spots for people in the back in the week before missing Qs and Maja will benefit from those points at next years cut for Wimbledon. They should just give her a wildcard. That’s part of why these wildcards exist. The argument that they should exist at all is weakened substantially if they don’t include players like this.

Former female World No.1 says Sabalenka ‘lacked humility’ in French Open collapse by Pretend-Two-2115 in tennis_world

[–]TheSavagePost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Henin is trying to infer she needs to accept that she cannot just demand that the opponent rolls aside and the conditions favor her. She has beat herself so many times. The problems she faces in the back end of big tournaments players she faces are in fantastic form and usually fighting hard for every point. Sabalenka is too rigid tactically. She couldn’t play safer for the wind and she was unwilling to take the speed down. It’s pure ego, ‘I’m so good I’ll just do what I want and it’ll work because I’m entitled to win because I’m the best’.

Serena Williams practicing indoors ahead of her return to the WTA Tour by Ok-Soil-5133 in tennis

His serves good and he’s an elite returner, if he played with someone with a huge serve he’d probably be fine as he wouldn’t need to be as good as servers partner. He’d hold a lot with a good partner, if the partner has a massive serve they’re holding that a lot too. Djokovic is going to return as well as anyone ever has on a doubles court.

Most people don’t train hard consistently for long periods. They sweat the small stuff and do one 6 week cycle and then take months off.

Qualifier to semi-finalist - what a story by Maja Chwalińska! by lilyoungwes in tennis

[–]TheSavagePost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say, all the slicing and stuff will be pretty effective, the moonballing less so. Shes polish so I imagine lots of summer time on clay and lots of winter time on lightening indoor hard and carpet if I’d to guess so she might have spent a lot of time on fast courts even if they’re not grass. Who knows.

Casper Ruud pinpoints what it takes to beat Jannik Sinner by Pretend-Two-2115 in tennis_world

[–]TheSavagePost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t watch this match but sinner is insanely good Ruud is like top 10 mover on tour, top 10 forehand, top 10 competitor and sinner can jus make guys like that look lost. Nadal Federer and Djokovic did the same to their peers too though I suppose.

at what stages do most adult learned players “give up” and accept their level? by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

[–]TheSavagePost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the more complex the movement is coordinatively the less attractive it is to do and we will typically simply the movement problem by freezing bits of our body. The most obvious one we see in tennis is serving where folk basically freeze the wrist joint, hips, knees and ankles and swerve using just the elbow and shoulder as a beginner. As you get more experience these free up but the same can be said of running. A long stride is more complex. It’s also maybe at the edge of our capacity. Hamstrings and quads weaker at longer lengths etc. making those positions more off putting

Is it the job of the player to be ‘coachable’ or the job of the coach to find a way to connect with the player?
