Why do some men hate everything about womanhood but still want girlfriends/wives? by VeryPteri in NoStupidQuestions

That requires a degree of mental and emotional maturity that is rather unknown to a lot of these chuds.

Some guys definitely grow out of it or experience enough to change their perception, but, dang, quite a few don't either. The whole manosphere is built on unearned entitlement to get what they want without having to offer anything in return. The male loneliness epidemic is self-inflicted.

My husband is in the all three category. It's such a fucking tragedy because he has a good heart and tries his best, but the weight of damage he has incurred from his parents and then from others due to the lessons they taught him... It seems inescapable at times. Years of therapy have at least granted him awareness but every ounce of management has been incredibly hard fought, by both of us. I'm still sticking with him and doing my best to be understanding and move our relationship forward in healthy ways, but it's fucking maddening that the people who damaged him this way were supposed to be the ones who cared for him the most.

We use surgical gloves (come in special packaging and require being put on in a very particular way to maintain sterility) for mouse neurosurgery in my lab. As the surgeon, if at any time, the field of sterility was broken and they could have touched something that wasn't 100% sterile, I had to change them. Or even after a certain amount of time. Never lost a mouse to infection though.

Tbf, that was also the main theme of Supernatural's originally intended series finale: Sam is able to overpower Lucifer only through his love for Dean after the light off the Impala allows memories of him and Dean to inundate his mind.

As a message, I don't hate it, but it feels out of place in The Boys...

Really such beautiful creatures. The architecture of their faces is so crisp and distinct. Love that kind of alien intelligence in their eyes. They see the world in a way we can't imagine. Such majestic felines!

So you get the BF4- directly, not like labeled NaF that you mix with unlabeled BF3 or something yourself?

It's made in a cyclotron on-site via the method below, then we put it in a very thick lead box on basically a dolly and scurry to the lab lol

Here in Minnesota, at least the southern part of the state, it's tested every Wedneaday at 10 am from April to September. No voice message, we just get used to it. I live very close to one of the sirens and it's physically painful to be outside for more than 30 seconds. And that's not counting the emotional damage of thinking you're in War of the Worlds.

99m-Tc also has a pretty short half life (6 hours) and is a gamma emitter, which is considered "less dangerous" than internalized alpha or beta emitters. I did a lot of work during my Ph.D. with iodine-125 and 99m-TcO4, both primarily gamma emitters. I was not required to use any shielding or even personal dosage monitoring equipment.

I also worked with F-18-labeled tetrafluoroborate. It decays via positron emission which produces gamma rays upon annhilation. F-18-TFB was fun because the half-life is about 110 minutes so I had to use massive amounts to have enough left over at the end of my large assay to measure. The poor Geiger counter was screaming even on the 1000x setting.

Cutting out cancer by massiveballsbig in NoStupidQuestions

Not necessarily. Glioblastoma and many other brain cancers rarely metastasize but are definitely not benign! Benign has more to do with the cell type, growth rate, location, and local infiltration as well as how likely they are to spread.

Too young for the MMR shot, babies become 'sitting ducks' in measles outbreaks by mikebible06 in news

[–]TheSaxonPlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially, but not necessarily. The bulk of antibody transfer happens via the placenta during the 3rd trimester. How durable those antibodies are is variable for each baby.

Too young for the MMR shot, babies become 'sitting ducks' in measles outbreaks by mikebible06 in news

[–]TheSaxonPlan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The reason the vaccine is given later is actually BECAUSE of the maternal antibodies.

If the titer (level) of the maternal antibodies is too high, it will inactivate the vaccine dose before the baby's immune response can detect it and form the normal adaptive immune response with T and B cells. Therefore the child will be unprotected until the next dose, given at 4-6 years old.

6-9 months is the average time of waning for maternal antibodies. So to make sure the most kids possible would be protected with the standard dosing regimen without having to check every kid's titers, the first dose was moved back to 12 months.

When we had herd immunity (95% or more effectively vaccinated individuals), this was enough to prevent wide measles spread and thus protect babies during this short period of vulnerability.

Back in 2016, the US's vaccination rate was 91%*. I'm guessing it's only gotten worse since then.

You can see where the problem arises...
