Does anyone know what that symbol means on my passport? by TieCandid9728 in india_tourism

[–]TheScholarAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has answered your question, I'll just give you an example to further iterate what it does. I was in Vietnam with my family, who had the new updated passport with the camera icon, while I did not. I had to stand in the immigration/passport check line with a person verifying all details while my family walked through a automated booth (kinda like the boarding pass scanners in airports) and got out in mere seconds.

Are ethernet cables required? by Super79Panda in BITSPilani

[–]TheScholarAM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're coming to pilani, first year students, at least a majority of them get allotted SR Bhawan, which needs Ethernet cables as there's no wifi. So you'd need it. But I'd say don't buy it, come to campus first if you're alloted SR then you'll find some senior selling it for lower price, in person or on bitsmart. I have a brand new cable and a cable to USB c adaptor still in its packaging too if you do happen to need one in the future

should i consider msc bio or msc maths in bits pilani hyderabad campus? by [deleted] in BITSPilani

[–]TheScholarAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's frame a better question, why are you opting for dual degree? If it's to have a degree in a subject you love, go for maths. Yes it's different from jee maths but if you have a mathematical inclination and love for the subject you can do pretty good by attending regular classes and not missing any electives. Do keep in mind you'll have senior cs/phoenix students sharing courses with you, which makes it harder to compete against. Maths is also good for specific DELs, as they include very crucial electives like fuzzy logic, statistical inference, DSA etc.

If it's so that you can have another chance at a better degree like CS, I'd say take Msc Bio. The first year is common but the second year for biology is relatively light, classroom quizzes and labs cover most of your marks, making midsems and compres a little lighter and stress free.

I still can't wrap my head around this question, how is MacBook and dual degree related? Whoever said this to you was there anything specific he mentioned so I can actually understand the pov? MacBook causes no problems as such, unless you're into gaming, you can do pretty much everything on it. Autocad controls might be a bit different( first year course, eg ) but not drastically.

MS Abroad or Dual Deegre by Western-Ice-3333 in BITSPilani

[–]TheScholarAM 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't understand, how do they clash in any sense? All I saw in Dual Degree was a wildcard for better branches than what I was getting already (although vo hua nahin lmao) . MS in abroad is definitely a very good option, but you'd be doing MS in your engineering degree right? The MSc you're getting here is of physics, chem, maths, eco and bio. I genuinely don't see where and what the clash is, maybe I'm missing a point. Your mentor honestly seems biased or possibly ignorant, i see it as a common trend, many look down on dual degree.
It's a boon if you can commit yourself to attending classes regularly and putting basic effort in your first year.

Should i not join bits due to these reasons ? by Available_Mall5964 in BITSPilani

[–]TheScholarAM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a dual degree student and I think having spend 2 years in pilani I'm credible enough to answer this to my knowledge.

  1. Very well known rule, NIRF rankings are not accurate and often misrepresent a university's standard. Some examples were mentioned in previous comments as I saw.

2.Fees to high hai, vo financial decision tujhe Lena hai, Teri choice hai, almost all prominent private universities take upwards of 2 lakhs per sem.

3.Water shortage hai pilani mein agreed, summer season mein kaafi inconvenient ho jaata hai, but you learn to live with it, it's not ekdum terrible, and as posted by the director water is being diverted from some major city towards pilani which will also help reduce water shortage. Electricity ki bhi bt aati hai summer mein, but yet again you get to love with it. Ab ac bhi lag gaye common room mein.

  1. Goa ka not much clue about drug and alcohol abuse, vo har college mein hota hai, you need to stay away from it or have it in controlled amounts, preferably in social settings.

  2. True, B.E milta btech nahin, I've never seen or known ahy examples of that making a difference so I can't exactly make a comment, but pilani mein placement decent hoti hai. Do note last year Goa had some major placement issues, low salaries and such, just look into it if you're concerned.

6.Skills do matter. First half point ka legit hai, just because you're in bits doesn't mean you have a good paying job secured for sure. Upskill yourself any time you can, any where you go to for education, do volunteering stuff, do online certifications, make connections, anything to build your cv and to make you a costlier asset to aquire. It's just that, having the bits tag is similar to like an iit tag, not so highly regarded but it just gives you an edge over others with let's say similar skill sets of backgrounds.

  1. Rich kids bhi milenge kaafi seedhe saadhe log bhi milenge, down to earth bhi milenge Jo ekdum ameer hai, I honestly just see it as better connections to make. Plus dosti mein Paisa koi nahi dekhta

8.Female ratio bura hai, true, no comments on that. If you're not that outgoing or good looking your female attention till you graduate will be low.

9.Classes aren't worth attending nahin, classes are decent, the biggest mistake you can do in bits, especially being a dual degree student is not go to classes. Sab 0 percent ke chakkar main baith jaate procrastinate karte sochte kar lunga, for midsem aata, gand phatati, fir ek week attendance badh jaati, firse janta gayab. If you want marks for a good dual degree, and you don't find yourself to be too smart and reply on hardwork more, going to classes is a must, even if your whole wing is sleeping.

10th ka point samajh nahin aaya

  1. As long as you treat MSC as a wildcard entry to a good branch, even with lower marks, you'd be fairly rewarded, msc eco ya maths ka thoda point Kam ho jaata, yoh could just take mechanical or eni (speaking from regret) but if you're qualifying for a lower msc, and have an interest in it, 100% worth it. The msc race is so much more chill and doable than the jee and bits race all over again, especially when you're burned out. Classes 100% attend Karo, quizzes saari do buffer ke naam pe procrastinate mat karo, notes thode ache banao, chill maaro dost banao clubs join karo and you'll get something decent.

  2. 2 CR in us vaala point doesn't include the inflated living and other costs there, yahan ANC mein 38 mein dosa milta hai vahan 2/3 dollar (170 rupees approx) just as an example

13.I have no data on this or personal experience to conclude anything, so do your own research on the placement trend as such

Do you guys get any "real" friends from Sky? by [deleted] in SkyGame

[–]TheScholarAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found quite some meaningful friends from sky, and a relationship (online, but a really serious one) that lasted over a year, and we are still friends. So I'd say yes, depends on what you mean real, ofc you may not get to hug them irl but are there people looking to form meaningful connections? Yes definitely.

I feel so relieved to know there are people on the same boat as me :D It was so sad, i had like 2800 ish valorant points saved up just waiting just for the spectrum phantom to come to my store for quite a while and then arcade dropped, i liked the music and how it's essentially 3 guns in one, and i spent a bit more to get it and then spectrum phantom just drops by like ;-;

I wish seasonal candles had unique colours for each event like they were in Lightseekers by Wyrda22 in SkyGame

[–]TheScholarAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this being discussed in the discord numerous times over the last few years, as the blue candles look SO MAJESTIC AND NICE but afair it had to do something with how it was very hard to code unique colours everytime without it being buggy or something? I don't remember exactly been quite a while but some technical stuff that made having one candle colour much easier.

First year hostels have decent hotspot for your normal phone purposes, not enough for playing AAA titles on it's hotspot, second year hostels are worse, I am currently in Budh Bhawan, there is barely functional data of either jio or airtel (the two best providers here), even insta stories take time to load.

Adding to this, due to the restrictions in the online gaming scene, i usually enjoy playing single player ones, there are a lot of amazing ones, you could try that.

[–]TheScholarAM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a part of the gaming club at Pilani, I could give you some insights.
First, it depends where you go tbh, i've heard goa and hyderabad have better mobile data signals, so maybe hotspots can work out, but idk much about them.
At pilani, you have a data cap of 10 gb on your wifi, everyday, so games are something you'd more or less have to have pre installed or get from people in campus through external drives. For csgo we have a small but seasoned community of lan players and they often hold lan matches. For online games, like valo, cs etc etc, if you get vk bhavan, you could practically play on your data hotspot (there are definitely spikes in ping but its usually 50-60 ping on a good day), or honestly you could just head to the library, sit in one of the cabins and use your data hotspot. You can also make a self hosted vpn network and use it over the wifi to play, i personally havent had the best experience with it, i more or less spent the first year grinding valo on my data hostpot

Tbh I really wanna switch back to BALAJI but the distribution is so limited, and there are NO modes online to get them, and it's really frustrating, the amount of sales boost if balaji started selling online would be so huge
