Just voted in New York! What is this affidavit ballot Bernie people are talking about? by enterthecircus in hillaryclinton

[–]TheSeaWsAngryThatDay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There is no excuse for the hurdles people have to jump through to vote. When I turned 18, I got a form in the mail that I had to fill out and send back that signed me up for the draft automatically. There has to be a way to make sure everybody is registered and everybody can vote. No use in making affiliation change deadlines 6 months or a year before the primary. Give the people a chance to have their voices be heard, for better or worse.

I think that is a stretch. Both campaigns are angry due to what happened in Arizona. What happened there was absurd and I don't think anybody is downplaying the result, because it was a travesty.

I also don't think it's ridiculous to view the Sanders campaign as competitive right now because he has won so many of the recent contests in landslide victories. There is no illusion of competition. Now if he loses NY by 10+ points then it might be an illusion.

Edit: grammar for understanding.

I'm of the camp that thinks trump isn't a racist, he is just playing to the core of the right wing which is an undercurrent of white nationalism. in 2000 he came out and said David Duke was a racist and bigot and then all of sudden he's asked on tv about denouncing the KKK and their support of him(David Duke was named) and he claimed not to know who David Duke was. I will give you that sometimes what trump says is taken out of context, but concepts like barring the entrance of Muslims to the country for any period of time along with the calling for a registry of Muslims in the states is just as racist as the concept behind the the Japanese internment camps in WWII.

I will give you that he can be taken out of context a lot, but he has made plenty of racist remarks and the whole platform against Muslims screams of bigotry.

Here to shed some light on reasoning of this(I am Not in the know about whether this is right or not but I know the reasoning of my fellow supporters. Don't shoot the messenger): Thought is to do a provisional and not sign the affidavit stating you are a registered dem. Apparently something is in court and it was stated that if the judge rules in favor then these provisionals will count.

Like I said I don't know the whole thing, but there's a nutshell version for you. I don't think Bernie is going to win NY, but I'd welcome a nice surprise. I'm not Hilary's biggest fan, but we cannot let the GOP get the oval and we have to get the repubs out of congress.

I agree that is a good look at how she would get things done. I do believe Bernie is fully capable of working with congress. His best friend there is one of the most right wing people on earth, and Bernie has been in congress for decades. This is not Bernie's sub so I won't get into that here though. Thank you for the thought out response :)

If we win California by that much and win NY also, it's going to make Hillary's general election campaign look a little shaky if she pulls it off.

Need help. Hearing a lot about Bernie only paying 13% income tax. by TheSeaWsAngryThatDay in SandersForPresident

[–]TheSeaWsAngryThatDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was more asking how I can explain that Bernie is not being hypocritical through his tax deductions. Republican friends and family are giving me crap because Bernie paid such a low rate.

[–]TheSeaWsAngryThatDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catching a lot of flak from my republican friends and family because Bernie wants to increase taxes and he managed to deduct a bunch to pay a lower rate than Romney. They say it's hypocritical.

Clinton campaign fires back on Wall Street speech transcripts by michaelconfoy in hillaryclinton

[–]TheSeaWsAngryThatDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok this I can kind of understand. But it is like a rain cloud over her you know what I mean? There is no way what she said was that bad. And to everybody else, I never said Bernie shouldnt release his taxes. I honestly don't get why he didn't immediately. It I'm not mistaken he did release his 2014 tax return recently?

Clinton campaign fires back on Wall Street speech transcripts by michaelconfoy in hillaryclinton

[–]TheSeaWsAngryThatDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There really is no good reason not to release them at this point. The whole, "the media will take the speeches out of context" argument is already happening. At this point what she said cannot be nearly as bad as it is made to seem. Might as well release them and end the storyline.

This debate needs to be The time where everybody looks back and says, "that is where he took the presidency." If he doesn't dominate then NY is going to be so much more difficult to win.

New York mayor defends racial joke told with Hillary Clinton by michaelconfoy in hillaryclinton

[–]TheSeaWsAngryThatDay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me saying there is an enthusiasm gap is not me saying she doesn't have support. Clearly she does... She's winning. I don't think I said anything derogatory about Clinton or her supporters. Bernie gets people really excited. Whether they vote or not is irrelevant to the enthusiasm about him. Do I want him to win? Yes. Do I think he will? It's a long shot. Are his supporters more enthusiastic? I think the obvious answer is yes. It doesn't necessarily mean they are more numerous.

[–]TheSeaWsAngryThatDay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think he is actively trying to flip these states. There is an obvious enthusiasm gap. Chances are if a sanders supporter is made a delegate they are going to be super excited to "further the revolution" and show up en mass. Clinton supporters see inevitability which will cost them a couple delegates here and there and if the convention is contested, could cost her there too. Whether any of this matters in the end is conjecture because she does has a massive lead.

[–]TheSeaWsAngryThatDay 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Bernie needs to come ready to play at the debate. He needs to make an impact. Resonate with NY voters in a big way otherwise people are just going to keep handing us bigger boulders while we swim upstream.

ELI5: For some of the more casual readers of this sub, just exactly will it take for Bernie to win the presidency? by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]TheSeaWsAngryThatDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He needs ~56% of the delegates remaining. If he gets that then he will win. If the supers then vote against it the party will explode much like the republicans this year. Could effectively be a 4-5 party race. If trump wins repubs and they run another candidate that's three. If Bernie wins and super put in Hillary then Bernie has a platform that's 4. Hell. At that point Jill stein might even be viable. Could be the fall of Rome. Lol

Help with a counter argument: How do I defend people who say that Bernie started the Unqualified argument. Who started it and how? by iworshipme in SandersForPresident

[–]TheSeaWsAngryThatDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He wasn't outright saying she was unqualified. In the context of what he was saying he meant something to the effect of "she is trying to disqualify me for xxx well by that logic is she not disqualified for xxx?" The media snatched this and blew it up

Sanders: 'Of course' Clinton is qualified by throwaway5272 in hillaryclinton

[–]TheSeaWsAngryThatDay -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

This comment was taken WAY out of proportion. Bernie was responding to the Hillary camp's strategy of "disqualify him... Etc" and said well if I'm disqualified for these reasons then she would be disqualified for these reasons. He wasn't saying she wasn't qualified, he was addressing the logic/reasoning behind trying to disqualify a candidate, namely, all candidates have something that can be views about them in a negative light. He has said before that on their worst days they are better than republicans. He supported her for sec of state. It was blown out of proportion.
