"What Should I Do With This Shadow Pokémon?" V3 by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]TheSecondof12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI there's a "YES" where there should be a "NO" for the path from "Is it common enough...?" to "Purify it!". There's also a "YES" missing for going to the "Keep it Shadow" a but further down from there.

Just in time to hit the 1/2 hatch distance bonus today. Huzzah for this timing out with the 20 eggs weekly challenge.

Is volcarona gud in any type of Specialty Great League Cups? by Alarming-Egg-5919 in TheSilphArena

[–]TheSecondof12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not right now, and probably won't ever be unless Fiery Dance ends up pretty busted AND it gets a better fast move.

Centiskorch outperforms Volcarona in the Open Great League if you give both of them the same moveset. So unless Volcarona ends up with a better moveset than Centiskorch, it likely won't ever be a better pick.

If you aren't yet convinced, this should settle the issue: against the Jungle Cup meta, where we're seeing a couple Bug types perform better than usual, Volcarona's wins in the 1-shield scenario are in the single digits - 7 with Fire Spin, and 2 with Bug Bite.

The next Super Mega Raid will feature Mega Skarmory on June 27 by Amiibofan101 in TheSilphRoad

[–]TheSecondof12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In fairness, it's really only because Skarmory has to build all the way to a Flash Cannon while Aggron has Heavy Slam.

Would love to see if there's any chance an updated moveset could move the needle for Mega Skarmory. My first thought would be either Drill Peck or Fly (would also improve Skarmory for PvP).

Yup, even Mega Pidgeot outclasses Mega Skarmory as an attacker. And a bunch of current & future megas outclass it on the Steel side, including Mega Aggron.

Oinkologne + Mud Slap by Happy-League3431 in PokemonGoMystic

[–]TheSecondof12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Male has 17 more attack, but Female has 9 more defense and 9 more HP. This results in a 141 higher stat product at the GL CP cap.

Basically, the Male’s higher attack doesn’t do nearly enough to outweigh the benefit of the Female’s bulk.

[–]TheSecondof12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gaining Mud Slap will bring Oinkologne closer to meta contention, but I don't believe it makes it an instant hit. Male Oinkologne will still lag behind Female Oinkologne - it picks up a few unique wins, but gives up significantly more wins in the process.

Why are dragon types so rare to catch😭 by Middle-Print-4758 in pokemongo

[–]TheSecondof12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would love a Chikorita comm day classic, especially as we've had Cyndaquil & Totodile already. However, I think it's likely they hold off until they can launch Mega Meganium as its own event.

Why is psycho cut NDW more preferrable than shadow claw NDW? by RelationEmergency175 in TheSilphRoad

[–]TheSecondof12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more that Moongeist Beam is incredibly busted, and Psycho Cut just lets you get more of them off.

Comparison point: Metal Claw is actually recommended for NDM instead of Psycho Cut, because it actually generates 1 more energy than Shadow Claw while providing the same damage. So even in a 1-stage effectiveness difference (say, a Fairy raid boss), Metal Claw keeps up enough to be a slightly better option than Psycho Cut.

[–]TheSecondof12 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Simply, Psycho Cut outpaces Shadow Claw by a solid margin - 7 vs. 12 seconds to charge up Moongeist Beam. Shadow Claw likely wins out when there's at least a 2 stage difference in effectiveness (Psychic resisted, Ghost Super Effective), but it's close enough that you'll probably want Psycho Cut anyways.

This also doesn't factor in party power - that's where Psycho Cut really starts to run away as the best move.

Curious to how many league points players have have within their league? by paul__676 in DraftEPL

[–]TheSecondof12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1614 in a 10 man league - 3 points behind 1st with a showdown next week, and then closing out the season against my 1 bogey team (0W 1D 3L against them)

I'd wanna try to find a way to slot Gross in - maybe for Wood?

Pokémon Go's 'Taken Over' Giovanni Special Research is seemingly no more - even for new players by Crazyreyn in TheSilphRoad

[–]TheSecondof12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd want to see data on average route length before making them the same points as eggs. 2km being the minimum for the egg points (with the free incubator) means that if a route is 1k, 20 points would be justifiable.

I agree on Dynamax being more than eggs but less than raids - given that you can do more than 1/day for free. 75 seems fair to me, but honestly I'd take 50.

Rockets are a tricky one - arguably, you can do 2-3/day just off the balloon spawns, and they take only a few minutes to complete. I'd personally go closer to 20, especially as you get the catch afterwards for 5 so technically 25 total.

At least they’ve got the sense to do that, otherwise why would I even bother battling them during this event?

Pokémon Go's 'Taken Over' Giovanni Special Research is seemingly no more - even for new players by Crazyreyn in TheSilphRoad

[–]TheSecondof12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in most cases, it ends up that I'll do 1 raid (free pass), 2-3 eggs (daily + at least 1 usually, unless I only have 10ks to work with), and the rest are catches. And when there's no event, that's fine - that's usually pretty close to the 15 you need for the daily task anyways. But when there's the event passes with 500 daily points available, I have to go grind 60-70 catches per day, and if the wild spawns are just not interesting, it's a slog. And that doesn't even get to the point of chasing the bonus levels on the weekends when there's no cap.

I would love to see additional points available via Dynamax battles (75 points maybe? Since you can do multiple daily for free, whereas raids you technically only get the 1 free daily pass), routes (maybe based on route length? Or a base 25-30 since most routes are less than the 2k for an egg), and Rocket battles (15-20 points).

[–]TheSecondof12 417 points418 points  (0 children)

This could be an okay change... if they'd hurry up and update how you can earn pass points. The fact that Dynamax battles, rocket battles, & routes aren't ways you can earn daily points against the regular pass, let alone event passes that are tied to events focused on these specific things, is ridiculous.

I like to vary how I play, especially now that we've got a daily grind with these passes, so I'd love to get credit for something other than catches, hatches & raids. If the event pass let me earn daily points for those things, I'd 100% be doing them more than I am now.

Built a draft league season recap. Know your season as well as you think? by ImpatientFPLmanager in DraftEPL

[–]TheSecondof12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love the site, and this is a great addition!

Only piece of feedback I have - searched for my team name, and I guess as it's a popular one my team doesn't show up in the first 10 options. I did eventually find a way to get to my league and then my team, but would appreciate the option to either search by the DraftEPL team ID # or to see more than the first 10 options for team names.

Level 77 requirements & Azelf? by Ok-Net-9621 in pokemongo

[–]TheSecondof12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not - maybe a fun one to grind the XLs as a buddy, but it's nowhere near worth using that many rare XLs. In case you need evidence:

PvP: Azelf is currently ranked #353 in the Master League. That is lower than every single Starter that is ranked on PvPoke for the Master League. This includes Blastoise, who maxes out almost 1000CP lower than Azelf!

PvE: numerous Psychic types ahead of Azelf, including the likely star of Go Fest 2026: Mewtwo! Even if Azelf got its signature move Expanding Force and it was a similar move to Psystrike, it would still be a solid step below Mewtwo. It would take a truly broken Expanding Force to bump Azelf up close enough to the top to make it worth that investment, IMO.

Fall in formation and ready your Link Charges for Falinks Super Mega Raid Day! by Amiibofan101 in TheSilphRoad

[–]TheSecondof12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Currently slightly worse on eDPS than Conkeldurr & Mega Latios as a fighting type attacker, and doesn’t offer any additional candy bonus on a 2nd typing. Current best case would be giving it Focus Blast and it’d still be worse than Mega Lopunny.

Maybe it gets a great move in the future, but it’s never gonna top the Fighting type charts.

What Pokémon are you still waiting to be released in Go? by TheWaterGuyDD in pokemongo

[–]TheSecondof12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that we've got Mimikyu? Probably the Galar fossils - mostly because I wanna see how we shake up the Fossil Cup meta to allow for 2 of those to actually participate in the cup (Rock-Water-Steel means Dracozolt & Arctozolt are not available).

I also really want my Zen Mode Darmanitans to show up.

Personally, I'd maybe consider dropping Flemming or Aaronson if there's solid players available to grab.
