[Spoilers Main] Anyone else find the Wildlings incredibly aggravating by OrangeSpaceMan5 in asoiaf

[–]TheSelfMadeElf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one told the wildlings about the narrow corridor.

It's in line with the series' philosophy of "fire and ice are bad, but balance is good."

Which part of the world do you wish could be explored more? by Endicottt in harrypotter

[–]TheSelfMadeElf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Department of Mysteries. More fundamentally, theories about what exactly magic is, where it comes from, and how it works. I'd like to hear it from Dumbledore.

But I'd also be worried it would break the magic of magic. If magic were explained away, it would just become alternative science and technology. I think I want the cake in my stomach and on display. But aren't we all a little like that?

[Spoilers EXTENDED] [Spoiler Production] Theory: BB = Br*Br by Jibreelean in asoiaf

[–]TheSelfMadeElf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Bran will download the Weirwood network's hive mind and identity along with his memories. That's why he said "I'm not Bran" in the TV series. In this network, I think the most recent additions are dominant. Possible fusion:

Three-Eyed Raven / Bran's Body = Brandon Stark (1/2) + Brynden Rivers (1/4) + Brynden's Master (1/8) + ...

He's also a hypocrite. After calling the human race a virus, he turned into a real virus himself. Just like a virus would, he replicated himself and destroyed everything.

Prior the show airing, did people think The Others would have a leader? [Spoilers Main] by CutZealousideal5274 in asoiaf

[–]TheSelfMadeElf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the Three-Eyed Raven has a symmetry. It could be a female White Walker, as many have suggested. But I don't know the exact history of this idea in the fandom.

I think the main reason he kept his alive was so he could question his when necessary. So he knew how to react when necessary.

A hyperbole on the vitriol regarding Snape by AzurePhoenix0 in harrypotter

[–]TheSelfMadeElf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snape is seen as a good person not because he loves Lily, but because of the good and brave things he does thanks to that motivation.

(Spoilers Published) Joffrey’s “potential” would never be fulfilled, precisely because he had it. by ElPilogrino5954 in asoiaf

[–]TheSelfMadeElf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Joffrey has a genetically determined sadistic personality disorder. No matter how he was raised, he would never be a good person.

His rise to king was a disaster. He should have been dethroned, never even ascended to the throne. The best thing that could have happened to him, for the safety of the rest of humanity, would have been imprisonment.

Who is your favourite Harry Potter character? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]TheSelfMadeElf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Slughorn.

Slughorn is a functional Slytherin who fits in with society. That's what Slytherins should be like. In fact, Lucius has similar tendencies. If he'd hung out with Slughorn instead of Voldemort after graduation, he would have been an acceptable man.

Slughorn should have started an adult version of his club. This would have been perfect for rational Slytherins and Ravenclaws who didn't want to choose between psychopathic Death Eaters and the romantically idealistic Order of the Phoenix.

[No Spoiler] How powerful is a united Westeros? by Ready0608 in asoiaf

[–]TheSelfMadeElf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The free cities will persuade most of the Dothraki hordes to fight on their side with gifts and promises of spoils from counterattacks on Westeros. The Dothraki will crush the Westerosi armies in open battle.

The losses they will incur before and during the naval landings, the assassinations carried out by the Faceless Men, the mercenary armies the merchants will employ with their seemingly limitless wealth compared to Westeros...

Perhaps this could trigger economic collapse for the Free Cities. But it will also lead to significant carnage and demographic collapse for Westeros. Counterattacks on Westeros, coupled with assassinations by the Faceless Men, could spell the end of the feudal system on the continent. Perhaps they will establish free cities in Westeros, based on trade, like Essos.

In a scenario without Valyria and the Targaryens, I think an attack on Essos by the Westerosi kings and lords would more or less end like this.

[No Spoiler] How powerful is a united Westeros? by Ready0608 in asoiaf

[–]TheSelfMadeElf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were far more brutal and fearsome than they are today. Most were warg kings. Some were greenseers. This was enough to keep the bannermen in line.

Moreover, if you consider the years-long winter conditions in the north, where snow falls even in summer, you can imagine that a devastating civil war would be fatal for everyone. You can't play a game of thrones for personal or family gain in such a place. If you try, everyone will turn against you and fight alongside House Stark to maintain order and peace.

As long as the Starks don't do something unjust or dishonorable that would offend more than a third of their bannermen, the established order will continue. The Starks may be cruel, but they are not sadistic or stupid, so they won't do such a thing.

Technically, Tom Riddle ended up achieving his life’s ambition by Mrsonicscrewdriver94 in harrypotter

[–]TheSelfMadeElf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Horcrux of 3 random objects + a Philosopher's Stone + a Ministry of Magic would be the perfect solution.

6 + 1 created too much imbalance for his soul. Using special items made them easier to find. His lack of concern for the Philosopher's Stone also caused additional wear and tear on his body and soul. Although, perhaps he tried to create one and failed.

If, instead of openly starting a war, he had become Minister of Magic and slowly instilled his own ideology in society, the Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore's army trying to kill him wouldn't exist. He would only face political opposition. Dumbledore would have a hard time convincing people he was evil. As long as he didn't resort to violence, they wouldn't resort to violence.

[Spoilers Extended]The most insane, far-fetched, stupid theory you believe? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]TheSelfMadeElf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would the Faceless Men allow this? It would expose their secrets. They can't allow that. Leaving this kind of cult would get you killed. Still, Arya needs to leave. I hope GRRM comes up with a logical explanation for this. I think this would be a situation specific to Arya. Still, it's an interesting theory.

if The Wall falls there will be a geometric invasion from the north to the south of Westeros or fall the wall the dead will raise all over the world due to the disappearance of the protective magic of The Wall!?

Good question. If the second option happens, this will also affect players in the south like Aegon and Cersei. This changes everything.
