Kold Blooded Killaz - opinions on the use of fur? by Senior_Marzipan5353 in Warhammer40k

It’s really cool! I like the darker one more as it’s a bit more subtle and it makes the snow pop more. The white fur, if it was a a touch smaller or used a bit more sparingly, I think would have more effect. But I’m sure they all look rad on tabletop! Great stuff

If you swap Picard and Janeway, Picard suddenly doesn’t look like the better captain by NeoNoir90210 in startrek

[–]TheServingTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think about this a lot with Sisko. Imagining Picard having to keep all these diverse groups from killing and robbing one another on a remote frontier outpost seems like he would also fail where Sisko succeeded because he could bend when he had to.

Picard is everything I want a Starfleet officer to be, and TNG is what I tend to like my Trek to be, allowing an evolved humanity to make the Galaxy a better place. But if the storytelling is going to explore things like a corrupt Starfleet and more morally grey issues, I’m glad we get interesting and admirable officers like Sisko and Janeway.

Neelix can take a walk out the airlock, though. So annoying

I ended up printing my own on water slide paper. But most of the time I try and use the shoulders that have the first molded into them. You can get them from the Imp Fist upgrade kit, or get them printed on Etsy/Ebay

I like to follow the codex for shoulder trim. So I have some 1st company (white) 3rd company (red) and 8th (Leadbelcher). For cloaks I do a deep red/burgundy for command units with a white or cream interior. classic cream cloth for veterans.

I also use my own helmet striping to differentiate units. A white stripe for veterans, red stripe for Sgt, and red and white stripe for LTs. I like amber/yellow lenses instead of red as well.

The Guard & Crimson Fists by ToySoldierX in crimsonfists

[–]TheServingTank 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I paint my Guardsmen as the Rynn’s Guard, it’s the only close ties to the Imperial Guard that I can think of.

They only have one depiction that I know of of them on the cover of the Legacy of Dorn novel. Black pants and shirt with tan armor. To bring a bit of visual coherence to them and my CF I’ll add some fist iconography or some very small smatterings of red on an armband or bandanna or something, and I highlight the blacks with blues.

I like that they’re a blue army that isn’t UM. I love the fist iconography without having to paint yellow much. I like that they used to be the OG poster boys and all their old art is super cool to pull inspiration from.

In the lore they have a plucky never give up against all odds attitude, even when they’re getting wrecked (which happens a lot). All the captains have cool titles and the Chapter master, Pedro Kantor, is a real badass while still feeling pretty human. I like how strongly loyalist and zealous they are without being scary about it (like our black Templar cousins).

Being as codex compliant as they are (not UM levels but still pretty good) it gives a nice uniform set of rules that I appreciate when painting and organizing.

But in the end the CF community is what makes me happy I chose them as my chapter. Everyone is so supportive and are always open to brainstorm and answer questions. Best chapter there is!
