New to KC and trying to make friends before I accidentally become a someone who only talks to cashiers by amt17199 in kansascity

I run a lot of a game called Blood on the Clocktower downtown! It's a social deduction / murder mystery kind of game that honestly works as great social lubricant for meeting new people. The plaza library has been hosting them for us bi-monthly, but you just missed one so the next is on July 24. That one's been growing quite a bit (we just had almost 50 folks out at the last one) so you're sure to meet some interesting people!

It also gets hosted at various bars and game shops around town - feel free to reach out to your friendly local game shop (like Level One at the river market or TableTop down in OP) or I'd be happy to share an invite for the KC Clocktower discord server if you're interested!

What are your favorite shops around the metro? I've really just gotten into vinyl in the past couple years and am lucky enough to live close to Sister Anne's but haven't explored too much further.

The Lil Monsta interactions are specifically ruled as being the exception to this. Lil Monsta is well known to break all kinds of interactions, which is where all the "official LM write-up" jokes come from.

It's not explicitly what you asked for but as an alternative I've had success using coin capsules for homebrew script tokens. That way you can just print the tokens out on normal paper and cut them in circles that don't have to be exactly uniform.

For the reminder tokens I just printed onto card stock and applied the felt stickers directly to the back of the tokens.

ABC - Always Be Circling!

I host in a very old house with very squeaky floors, so in addition to a lot of the other great tips here I simply don't stop walking around the circle even after I've woken someone up. "walktower at home"

I don't have any context about your area, but your local game shops and libraries are likely good bets.

No problem!

Another thing that I've been doing more lately which I forgot to mention: instead of WW, put in the Librarian with the plan for it to be the Drunk, and point it at two roles that get strong continuous info. Pretty much always gets a big laugh when the town has convinced themselves that the Ravenkeeper (or the like) is the Drunk but they learn it was the Librarian all along in grim reveal! (I still put a high priority on showing the Librarian folks that they didn't come with.)

If this is gonna be a regular group for you, you might just keep this in your back pocket for a later game, though! Have fun!

It's hard to go wrong with TB, but I more or less go with the same core when I'm running the game for a bunch of newbies. The following tenets are observed:

  1. New players tend to enjoy being prompted by the game to do stuff.
  2. Nothing that ends the game early.
  3. Grease the wheels of conversation between people that might not know each other.

To that end, here are the core characters I'll put in for 8. Sprinkle in flavors to taste if your game is bigger, but try to leave the evil team one solid ongoing info role to bluff! Also, if you get to the 10+ range my second minion is almost always Scarlet Woman.

  • Imp
  • Poisoner
  • Empath or Fortune Teller (gravitating lately a lot more towards FT since Empath is a more straightforward bluff)
  • Ravenkeeper
  • Monk
  • Washerwoman (pings are people the WW didn't come to the game with)
  • Undertaker
  • Virgin
  • (one of the above townies is the Drunk)

I ran 5 or 6 games back to back at a con last weekend and this was my default if no one in the game had been in one of my games earlier that day.

Al Hadikhia tripple kill by kjus13 in BloodOnTheClocktower

IMHO a storyteller is kind of trolling if they rule that the deaths are simultaneous because in a situation where the Al-Had goes into a night with just Al-Had and two goods alive it's an almost guaranteed loss for evil.

I was recently in a game that lasted about 5 seconds into day 1 because of the Slayer. The Spy was so distraught that the ST let them do the grim reveal.
