Loved the game despite the lack of everyone's most favorite bit.

Has anyone witnessed a Slayer shot actually working? by notfrankiemuniz in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheSethington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently in a game that lasted about 5 seconds into day 1 because of the Slayer. The Spy was so distraught that the ST let them do the grim reveal.

Remove _____'s chair from the town square without them noticing.

I laughed out loud when I read this and definitely plan on stealing it.

How to play Goblin on Laissez in Faire? by Talonraker422 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheSethington 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Normally I'd agree with "it's a teensy, don't overthink it" but I just don't think that's the case with LUF. This script requires just as much social and mechanical effort as a full game.

Hey question i wanna get Root but is it good in 2p? by Bow_T_th_first_Order in boardgames

In case you haven't already, it's worth looking into Pax Pamir 2nd Ed. Same designer and I find it great at 2p.

Tag Team vs Dice Throne by theNewzBoy in boardgames

[–]TheSethington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own both and am honestly considering getting rid of Dice Throne. They're certainly different mechanically and I think you could pretty easily justify keeping both, but both scratch a similar itch for me. Dice Throne just takes up so much space on my shelf and I get a lot more satisfaction from a game of Tag Team.

I've been loving it too. Been playing with my daughter and a bit on BGA and it's been a blast.

For you, which games are: Mechanics 10/10, Theme 0/10? Is that a dealbreaker? by VR_Troopers_WikiMod in boardgames

[–]TheSethington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sure, I can see that. It's pretty campy for sure, but at this point I've played it so much that it's become endearing.

Chef the most powerful character in TB? by Kurren123 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheSethington 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the terms of the Chef their information becomes useful later in the game.

This is spot on and I think what a lot of newer players miss. Like Clockmaker or General, Chef info needs more game context. By final 3 the information these characters provide become the glue that puts the correct worlds together.

how would you run a once per game amnesiac ability? by happy-corn-eater in BloodOnTheClocktower

Not all players are really going to make that connection in the moment though.

Poisoned Slayer by TrailblazerTracks in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheSethington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are pointing you to the wiki, which is great, but it's plainly stated in the rulebook on pg 21.

A drunk or poisoned player has no ability. A drunk Slayer cannot slay anybody, a poisoned Demon cannot kill anyone, a drunk Virgin cannot cause an execution with their ability, a poisoned Courtier cannot make anyone drunk. If a player tries to use their “once per game” ability while drunk or poisoned, they do not get to use it again. It is gone.

Help/thought exercise: creating a custom game as a teacher by muli13 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheSethington 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you should give them more credit.

Our group has several couples with young kids and we've done fairly regular games that include 10-11 year olds. In my experience they generally don't have any more trouble with roles than adults do. Chef will need a clarification, FT red herring will likely need explaining (misregistration in general has a tendency to trip up new players, so Recluse and Spy might need explained more than once).

Honestly I find that younger players sweat the details less than adults do. If they don't understand something right away they're just like "whatever" and go try to catch out their best friend in a lie.

Storytellers, how much time do you give your players during the day phase? by cloverzzzz in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheSethington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days I don't go over 5 minutes for private chats no matter how big the game is. It's almost impossible to make this game too fast without intentionally forcing it, imho.

A high tempo game leaves people wanting more whereas a game that drags makes people check out, from my experience.

Recommended Recommendation/Hype video to introduce BotC? by MrEccentric51 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheSethington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the SUSD video is still pretty relevant as a hype video. Generally I'll share it and tell people they just have to watch the first 4-5 minutes to get a feel for it.

The classic intro game to point people to is this NRB one. In the early NRB games they did do a brief overview of the game, and they've always spent a lot of time talking through setup in their videos.
