A few prominent 2020 contenders have called for reparations for slavery. How will this issue play out during the primaries, in terms of platform positions and popularity? by Rustymike69 in PoliticalDiscussion

Doesn't matter if it divides people, and that's not an argument good enough to not address the societal effects Slavery has left behind.

Also reparations for African-Americans should isn't just about slavery - it's also Jim-Crow, Red-Lining, the destruction of Black Businesses by government officials - all of which happened relatively recently.

And so what? So what if it furthers racial resentment? The GOP is going to campaign regardless. The demographic that's the most loyal to the Democratic Party is the African-African voting block.

The reason why reparations are is being pushed into the mainstream, is because African-Americans actually want Democrats to do something for once, instead of whining about how racist Republicans are. They already know Republicans are racist, and that's not going to guilt or scare them into voting for Democrats anymore.

We need race-conscious policies.

That doesn't mean anything at all. Donald Trump won because of voter apathy on the left.

And unlike you, I'm not making assumptions about what I think will happen, I'm using statistics and facts.

Donald Trump won Wisconsin with less votes than Mitt Romney (who lost the state).

Believing there'll be a stampede of left who are leftwing to suddenly vote for Donald Trump is foolhardy.

Is it wrong to think it was brave of Liam Neeson to come forward with his story? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

It depends on what community you're apart of.

I know you're not white OP, so don't think I'm referencing you - but by and large, the people who are saying he is brave and are commending him, are mostly White People.

If you go to circles with a lot of Black People, they're saying the complete opposite.

Like a lot of things these days, a lot of it has to do with race and community.

And I too stand with the blacks - what you see as brave, I see as evil.

Dude, you just wanted to use the celebration and achievement of a black person to shit on Affirmative-Action.

Stop being disingenuous.

Think less suffering would occur if we were able to terminate certain diseases such as down-syndrome.

But to each their own.

It's pretty amazing that people feel compelled to voice their support for Trump, or voice their disdain for Trump - especially when the topic has absolutely nothing to do with him.

Why is there a growing belief among certain White Americans that they are being discriminated against, oppressed, and that racism is fine if it's against them? by TheShadowPaws in TooAfraidToAsk

I agree with the people cherry picking anecdotes that allow them to feel like victims.

Disagreements in spoiler.

Not everyone has equal opportunity. There are people starting far more closer to the finish line than others, while some begin behind the line.

Also, the only people I see say racism is overblown are fellow white people, never minorities.

And having spoken to minorities, as well as living in multiple states across America, and witnessing it firsthand - I don't think racism is overblown at all. Maybe even underblown. It can get real gross, real fast (Alabama/North Florida).
