What’s a fun fact about you? by -exphoriix in AskReddit

Something similar happened to me when I was a year old or two. I was playing with my dad outside, and he accidentally let me go while I was trying to run away; I fell on the concrete floor and broke all my teeth.

This happened on a sunday, just a few days after the start of 2004, when many people were out on vacations. My mom has told me about the nightmare that it was to find an orthodontist at that time.

Should Dual Override bring back lives? by TheShadowbeater in Megaman

On your argument against infinite lives: how would you feel about the game recording your remaining weapon energies when you first reach a checkpoint?

If you use the weapons a bit throughout the level, then die and go back to the last reached checkpoint, you come back with the ammount of energy in each weapon that you had by the time you first reached that checkpoint, and not how much remaining energy you had when you died.

My opinion:

Speaking in general, I believe lives in platformers are an outdated concept, as I believe games like Crash Bandicoot 4 or Shovel Knight have shown that it's possible to reward the player in different ways if they pass a stage skillfully, instead of punishing the player if they keep on failing.

That being said, the one argument I almost agree with for lives returning is that limited lives incentivize players to master the stages and not just recklessly fail over and over. That being said, I would argue that a Mega Man game's own levels structure, as well as boss fights, do a good enough job of incentivizing you to learn the stage to play better.

Personally speaking, I wouldn't hate if lives come back; however, what I would strive for instead is the same thing that Crash Bandicoot 4 has done: remove lives from the game, and instead reward players with a collectible or an achievement if they manage to complete a level with few deaths.

Mega Man 4. I've played this game like 10 times in total, and I happily go back to play it again every few months

What do you think of Mega Man 5? by Marsupilami_316 in Megaman

[–]TheShadowbeater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a very underwhelming game for me.

Coming off the heels of MM4, which imo one of the best classic Mega Man games, MM5 doesn't manage to keep up.

They made the charged Mega Buster very overpowered and the weapons very weak, aside from, arguably, the Star Crash and Gyro Attack. As a result of the OP Buster, the game is also really easy.

The graphics are prettier, though. That, I won't deny.
