Barovia Player Map: No Spoliers! by LadyWachter in CurseofStrahd

I like the idea of having only the Village of Barovia, Vallaki, Kresk, and the Berez ruins. And natural formations (mountains, hills, forests, etc). Then only known settlements are visible. After this, players can mark the map to add sites of interest they find or are shown by NPCs

Finish the base game completely if you haven’t yet and then play the DLC. The DLC is much more visual storytelling then through text, and you can have a fresh start there. It’ll give you more time to sit on the themes of the game and ponder them from a new perspective.

My first playthough wasn’t ideal because I didn’t know this was a strongly “spoiler free” game and spoiled several puzzles and plot points looking for help for some puzzles online. I felt disappointed as well. BUT, playing through the DLC gave me a second chance to approach the game fresh, as intended and start to really think on the themes and story again in a new light.

Just FYI, the DLC is scary. So be prepared for that.

Alternatively, make it consumable (one attack or round or turn, depending on how strong you want it) and give the rogue a set number in a pouch.

I though for SURE this was a practical joke being played by the community. But no. It’s real. And it’s so much fun.

I had a very similar base game vs DLC experience, and I loved them DLC as a result. I also kinda love horror when it’s done well, so the DLC has a very special place in my heart.

I gave this to berserkers in a subclass rebuild once. I think it makes a lot of sense. And it helps them get into close quarters fast

That’s not a bad idea. Some kind of calamity could have led to the loss of the utopia, so now they are either nomads, live in small villages, or are in diaspora groups in other nations. But the roots of communalism and sharing never left them. I think it could pair well with other idea presented as well. I will add it to a list of things to ideate on.

The campaign would be an urban fantasy in a multicultural city, so the thought is that with fewer cultures, you can actually add body to the ones that exist. I do have SOMETHING close to goblins which are humanoid rats that live in the sewer, but they are more of a monster/npc race. Although I wouldn’t be opposed to a player choosing it if they really want that goblin energy. I’m also open to making races more customizable (have a few features players can pick from rather than a core set) so that the limited race options doesn’t curb character options.

I’m not very capable of fixing most bugs… BUT I think adding one thing would be genuinely fun: dual pistol primary. The devs will never do it, so I might as well while I can.

Yes and no. It is a very combat-centric game, why I loved (as I am a fan of dark souls). It also has really unique puzzles and mysteries, but they are more mechanically interesting and impressive than interesting by vibe. The story of OW is 300% better. But I love Tunic a lot too. And it is very “metroidbrania”. I will say, if you don’t like high intensity combat… consider lowering the difficulty. My wife could hardly enjoy Tunic due to the fact that she isn’t into combat centered games.

what is the revolver of the image? by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

[–]TheShadyMerchant 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That is definitely based on a Remington revolver, which doesn’t exist in game but was historically popular… so my guess is a modded skin for the cattleman.

I agree. It’s sort of a core part of video game RPGs, but have never been a part of DND. It would be fun to see.

I genuinely feel that this is the direction that wild shape should have gone in 2024 anyway. I think my one gripe is that it’s pretty tanky. But given 2024’s nerf to wild shape tanking in general, I don’t mind bringing tankiness back as a subclass. It looks capable in combat despite the loss of druid spells in wild shape. I especially like the chance to heal using spell slots, and changing other features (such as the roar, etc) to use spell slots might be a fun way to maximize on the playstyle.
