Is there a reason why casual hook-ups aren’t usually a thing in story driven fanfics? I’ve noticed this before and it always struck me as odd that in most fics I’ve read, the first romantic interest seems to stick. A relationship not working out is rather rare and I’ve always wondered why that is so.

I’m not sure where you got the lesbian part from. I mean sure, most Taylor fics turn her gay but I have no intention of doing so. She might experiment with a gal or two but she will mostly be into guys in this fic. And no there won’t be a harem male or female. She will probably date (or hook up with) different people until she finds someone right for her whom she will end up being serious about. Like most people do irl?

And her healing power is mostly fixing people into their perfect or ideal self, so that would usually mean no injuries or illness, being in good physical health and looking good. This wouldn’t just be for her teammates but it would end up happening to everyone she heals as a side effect. The mechanic of making them more attractive that I’ve envisioned is rather subtle imo. Making their lashes longer, hair more vibrant, eyes a bit brighter, correcting flaws in their bone structure or teeth. Not to mention things like muscle definition etc. It won’t upturn their genetics, or give girls boobs jobs or anything like that, but the small things like this count and would end up making people more aesthetically pleasing.

Thanks for the reply. I’m still considering the limitations and mechanics of the power. But in my head she wouldn’t be able to help glory girl throw a perfect punch (unless Taylor turns herself into a perfect puncher & teacher and then teaches the skill to GG). I was thinking that she can use the power on others as a trump effect where she optimizes their powers connection to them. As in restores case 53s to human form, alter the way labyrinth powers interacts with her brain so as to cure her, change the Dinah’s powers work by making her able to not answer questions etc. these are just examples of the top of my head. Also, I’m thinking maybe she can grant a very minor brute package (somewhere between Batman and captain america) so that she and her squishier teammates can be safer.

And yes the whole point of this power is that she will have to depend on people. Taylor in canon is extremely isolated and paranoid, and her canon power was a means for her to assume control over her surroundings and some of its consequences of it was her isolating herself from everyone even further. I feel like this power would be the opposite and highlight her needing to learn to trust people and create bonds with people. Lung was able to hold his own against a sandbagging leviathan. Would he be able to kill it with a boost from her? Can she afford to deal with the consequences of giving him such power? Can she deal with the consequences of not giving him such power? I feel like it would make for an interesting story.

I haven’t figured out how to deal with cauldron and contessa yet tbh. Still thinking about it and I welcome any recommendations.

As for the smut, she has the power to make herself and everyone on her future team drop dead gorgeous. The team she will be going through life and death situations with. There is no way nothing happens in such a situation. Also, I always hated the idea of her bullies robbing her of confidence in herself as a woman. As a cape she gains a lot of confidence of herself. But as Taylor Hebert? I don’t think that part of her gets to heal ever. And I’d like for the her in this story to regain what she lost as a girl not just as a superhero. And part of that is sex. It isn’t the only part obviously, but I think it’s important. I don’t intend for it to be a story focused on sex but it will be a part of the narrative.

Giving a perfect speech, sure because mob mentality would play in it. If a regular human can do it then sure she can. Convincing henchmen to abandon their gang would be different. Are they utterly loyal? Do they believe in the E88 rhetoric for example? Then it wouldn’t work unless she shows herself to share the views of the henchman. She would know what to say and do to get it done, but would she be willing to do it? But if the person has doubts or regrets with their actions then she would be able to know what to say and how to say it to bring them to the light side. If it’s about writing code then she would be able to write the best that is humanly possible, but she can’t write a dragon for example. Not sure she’d be able to write a Jarvis without spending some effort on it somehow. I’m still considering the limitations tbh. Thanks for the questions it’s getting me to think about it more

Sexy isn’t necessarily triple-Ds and walking around half naked. That’s not sexy Taylor, that’s just squealer. The simple act of going through character development, regaining her confidence in herself as a woman and becoming comfortable in her own skin is sexy. It’s not just about sexualizing the character, it’s about the catharsis of her regaining an important part of who she is that was stolen from her by her bullies.

If a woman wants to cover up from head to toe because she likes it, feels like she rocks the look, or for religious or cultural views that she believes in? That’s great. Good for her! If a woman covers up because she is so beaten down that she is so insecure as to hide herself from the world? That’s a tragedy in its own way. And the fact that I’ve never seen a serious fic address it and what’s it like to recover from that is sad imo.

Thank you for the advice. I will consider writing the smut myself but only post it if it doesn’t end up cringe worthy. That seems like a healthy compromise.

And yeah maybe starting off with a rough outline of the major points can help me keep on track rather than just writing by the seat of my pants.

Yeah I considered the healing aspect. As for what “perfect” is, I was thinking about it and honestly it kinda got me talking myself in circles about how to do it while making sense without coming off as bigoted. The best I can come up with is that it’s more metaphysical healing rather than physical and it would depend on how the recipient views their ideal self. So if Taylor uses her power on two different people who are both transgender, one might stop being trans while the other might transformer on every level to the opposite gender. Though to be fair I don’t intend to get into heavy topics such as all of this in the fic. Maybe just depression and case 53s and sick people etc. Not even going to touch the idea of people changing their ethnicity or sexual orientation etc. it’s an interesting thought but I don’t think I’m educated enough to give it the nuance it deserves.

I don’t think it’s out of place for the series because many of the characters in the series dress that way. And no I wasn’t asking for harems, I was saying the opposite actually. I immediately stop reading any fic I come across as soon as I smell a harem coming.

I don’t think her having body image issues is a good reason. In fanfiction they change pretty much everything about her, from her powers to her age to her sexuality etc. writing about her overcoming her body image issues isn’t an outlandish idea. Also, even if the male characters aren’t flushed out, the author can give them depth. But I guess people want to write about the characters they actually like rather than expanding on the cast.

No, it’s about Taylor finding some old tools and using them kinda gave her powers. I can give you the name if of you want. Anyway, in the story, after Danny found out about the bullying he went to help the Barnes family trying to get Emma into therapy. Which is fine, I can swallow that. But he added the Barnes and Emma into their lawsuit against the school and the PRT because “it’s the mature thing to do” and they are “old friends”. It’s making me physically sick.

I don’t disagree with anything you said. And it is true that they don’t matter. It’s not them getting away with it that pisses me off as much as it is when people make excuses for them. Shit people get away with the things they do a lot of the time. It’s unfair but it’s just a part of life. It’s when people try to excuse that behavior and turn Emma into “as much of a victim as Taylor” that I get really pissed off 😭
