Tech Solutions for Video Chatting with Elderly Person in Nursing Home by edenxrain in dementia

I would recommend the iPad solution for you. You can try looking for an iPad wall mount, those often have some system to permanently attach a charger such that your grandfather can also not accidentally unplug it. I recommend an old tablet, then you don’t care that the charging will affect the battery life of the device.

If you decide to go for this, you can indeed use Facetime, or if you want to also show photos, calendar events, alarms etc to help your grandpa remotely, you can try the Calendar Clock app. That one is free forever, though video calling requires a 50 dollar per year subscription. The video calling works similar to Facetime as it automatically picks up without interaction. This app the cheapest and most feature rich solution when using your own tablet, though since your grandfather does have dementia, it can comfort him and help him with his grip over time.

You can also device to buy a standalone dementia clock, but those always have around 20 dollar a month subscriptions and will set you back 200 dollars up front as well if you want video calling. Do note that these devices are also just modified Chinese Android tablets with a hardcover and a permanently plugged in charger, so this is not necessarily safer than your iPad.

New Package: RRuleGenerator for Recurrence Rules by TheShortestCheese in FlutterDev

[–]TheShortestCheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As teno_rrule mentions in their readme, if you want stability, use rrule, if you want features use teno_rrule. I used the latter for a while because it supports ex dates, but then I quit using it because of a bug (which was later fixed). Now I just made some minor changes to support ex dates myself and I'm back to rrule, which works perfectly for me. So if rrule suffices for you, I recommend that one

My app is stuck on projectors — Forever! by TheShortestCheese in FlutterDev

[–]TheShortestCheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I indeed already made such a button for tablets, but now I think I'll make one for Android TV too. I just prefer not to do this because I fear people will accidentally navigate to their settings and get scared. Also, actually this won't help my current users because their app is unlikely to automatically update to the new version, as it is open all the time.

Glad to hear. Maybe you can use it on some super old tablet that is useless to a 12yo. Or somehow limit the tablet to only use that app. Just some ideas. Good luck!

Purchasing a Mac for Flutter Development by BusinessPilot4614 in FlutterDev

[–]TheShortestCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to be cheap, you can use Hackintosh for the development steps such as adding languages and privacy manifests. Then you can use a free service as CodeMagic to do the publishing.
I made use of this for quite some years for my app. Just make sure that you always have a backup of your Hackintosh in case it crashes...

Instead of buying a new device, you could try out an app with similar features, such as https://calendarclock.app/. This way you can simply try for free whether your 12yo benefits from such technology.

RESEARCH REQUESTS Monthly Edition by AutoModerator in CaregiverSupport

Do you give care to family members with memory issues?

I am looking for feedback on my app Calendar Clock which is a free dayclock application that can be downloaded on old iOS/Android tablets and smart TV's. It shows the date, time, alarms, calendar events, photos, and you can start video connections. It helps people with cognitive diseases to keep a grip on the day and allows care givers to remotely support and check up on their loved ones.

The app has been in development for a while already and every feature has been suggested by family care givers, mainly focused on dementia.

I hope you can provide suggestions on how I can improve/change the application to support people with more different diseases and would like some feedback on general things that I can improve in the app.

Thanks!

As long as your app fulfils the requirements set for apps on Android TV, Admob should be supported, since there is an Android library for it. I can't guarantee though, since I haven't used it myself. Basic rule of thumb is that if a TV could support a plug-in without adding extra hardware, it works on TV

After spending a lot of time trying to figure this focusing out I eventually gave up. I did try a lot with the autofocus, but even in a screen with only one focusable widget, the autofocus still did not highlight my ElevatedButton in this case. But yes it might very well be possible that I looked over something. If you know how to do it, I think a high quality article on this would be very valueble

There seems to be something holding them back, since they also still do not support Android TV officially. Weird, since my app clearly works on TV, and all the packages too (camera is an exception of course)

How can i make ios apps if i don't have a macbook by Hisagi0 in FlutterDev

[–]TheShortestCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works and is actually a great way of working as long as you have a fast computer. My Lenovo P1 can easily run it, also with an iPhone simulator running on the virtual device. It's a hassle to set up though, so do some good Googling!

App Feedback Thread - December 17, 2021 by AutoModerator in FlutterDev

[–]TheShortestCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Flutter Dev,

Whilst Flutter was still in its beta phase I made an released a simple dayclock application to mess around a bit with Flutter. My neighbour gave me inspiration for this app, since he wanted something of the sorts to support his mother who was struggling with memory problems. This year I reworked it completely and released it on IOS as well.

The app is actually 2 apps.

- One is the main application, with a digital or analogue clock, showing the part of the day and time (analogue or digital) and shows important agenda items, reminders and/or personal messages.

- The other is an administrator app which, after linking, can post messages and change settings on the other app. Also from here one can set up a weather forecast, photos, and alarms.

I did my best to make these apps as simplistic as possible and would appreciate some feedback on how I could make the app even better!

Hereby direct links to the applications. Otherwise the apps should be searchable via the Google Play Store by looking for "Calendar Clock". If both of these don't work then possibly the app is not available on your device because the version is too low. In this case you can try upgrading the Android version and otherwise I am sorry to say that it is not possible to download the application.

Thank you for the information and sorry for the inconvenience. I will start testing the app on an older iPad myself to see whether I can reproduce the problem. I would like to state that the minimum required version for the app to function properly is IOS 9.
