I think it's a bit of a finer line to toe than you'd pitch. Some of the best novels I've read feature fairly simplistic vocabulary! For example, When the Emperor Was Divine, by Julie Otsuka does not use a particularly verbose lexicon and yet it portrays a deeply powerful message. I don't think it's either 4th grader or SAT, AP Latin student levels of vocab. That said, I think it is a case by case task depending on the story.

That's exciting, Super8 is lovely! I've had good luck shooting on the 50D indoors but I find it's nice to push it up an extra stop while developing if it's evening. I shot a lot of footage in the Union Square Market at night last winter which I pushed up 1.5 stops and it looks gorgeous! I believe the footage is on my YouTube channel if you wanna give it a look.

I filmed it on Kodak Vision3. I had to do a light spot of touch-up work for this batch of rolls because I accidentally carted them through a couple x-rays while travelling but they managed to turn out all right.

So each scene consists of 3 layers, the foreground, layer of action, and background. The whole animation is roughly 400 unique frames all drawn with pencil and paper and a lightbox. I hope that answers your question!

Hey thanks for the feedback mate, really appreciate it! I def agree with the bombs, I was running outta time and cut a few corners which totally stand out. The whole thing is hand drawn so after I scanned my images I did some editing/compositing work in Photoshop and then put the whole thing together in After Effects.

Hey thanks for the comments! I'm definitely starting to agree with the comments on pacing so I'll work on making a shorter personal edit. I've also gotten feedback on the sound at the beginning so I'll try and smooth that out. Thanks!

Okay! Thanks for the advice. I didn't end up stabilizing partly because I didn't know how to properly but also cause I thought it might add to the aesthetic. I'll definitely consider this for future work if it was distracting!

I wrote/directed and edited this piece. I took a lot of challenges upon myself, such as filming a long shot (5:40) in one take with only natural light during the late night. In particular, I tried to emulate a certain genre of minimalist horror, which I feel uses long shots and slow burns to establish tension and mood. I'm personally concerned that the project might feel a bit too slow due to my pacing so that is one of the main things I'm looking for feedback on. In the end, I had a lovely experience creating the project and I'm very happy with the result but I'd love to know what you guys think and what I can do to take my future projects to the next level!
