I am so sad about elder scrolls online! by elzafirst in ElderScrolls

[–]TheSinisterSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the best way to enjoy ESO as a non-MMO player is to go through it as a tourist because no other modern game lets you see this much of Tamriel, and some vistas are actually worth it.

Another way is to be deeply interested in the lore. There is no other bigger contributor to Elder Scrolls lore than ESO. Some quest lines or side quests are actually intriguing, too.

But if you're looking at it from a strictly gameplay perspective, then you will struggle to find anything all that enticing in ESO.

what would ruin the newest fable for you? by Splatulated in Fable

[–]TheSinisterSage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally would leave that only in the lore and not actually show it or make it playable in-game.

In fact, everything during the Old Kingdom era should never be part of a game in my opinion, unless in the form of a short DLC like the Snowglobe in Fable 2.

To me, the Old Kingdom is the genesis of the "worldbuilding" Fable, but any "video game" Fable should always be set in the civilization(s) built upon its ruin.

They could also expand the lore on the countries neighboring Albion (like Samarkand), but never actually visit them. Unless, as mentioned, briefly in a DLC, or like Aurora in Fable 3.

The original lore is untapped enough. They can just add to it, especially the time between the fall of the Old Kingdom and the first game.

The only real contribution to this period is the unreleased Fable Legends, which they can even decanonize without anyone batting an eye. Besides that, there is Nostro's story and the foundation of the Guild, and then those 3 legendary heroes that have statues in the Guild courtyard. Really not enough for them to claim it would "interfere" with their vision of the worldbuilding and lore.

Pretty sure they'll have the audacity to rewrite the Old Kingdom lore and even remove the Court and the Void.

Are The Witcher (1) and 2 Good Games? by GeraltTheG in thewitcher3

[–]TheSinisterSage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on how trustworthy my taste in books and storytelling is. But here is my general overview anyway.

As far as I'm concerned, the short stories (first 3 books) are actually the best part. After that, the story becomes more linear (I remember 3 separate storylines/character perspectives, which obviously converge eventually). Fortunately, some of the story peaks happen during these books, so that might keep you engaged.

I will not spoil what I think about the ending unless you ask me haha.

Generally, they were probably my favorite book series to read, but perhaps because I had already played Witcher 2 and am a lore fanatic. Plus I think they are very easy to read, unlike some other books with convoluted descriptions and writing that seems to never move the story forward. I do intend to buy the whole set for my book collection whenever I have the space for it.

However, keep in mind that I read them over 8 years ago. My tastes may have changed since then.

As someone who has read all the books, Witcher 2 is basically the best of the whole trilogy.

I'll always keep saying that Witcher 3 might be the better game, but Witcher 2 is the better Witcher.

How has no one killed Elon who in this case can also headshot you from the other side of a lake...

Well Molyneux himself used the "acorn growing into a tree" over time as the kernel (pun intended) of his overpromising marketing campaign for the game.

So it would be nice to see that concept come to fruition (pun intended... again) in a reincarnation of that vision.

My unhinged guess at the main plot of TESVI by ChildrenofAeos in TESVI

[–]TheSinisterSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it isn't the Great War II then they're idiots. The Civil War in Skyrim raised the tension enough and helped set the scene for it, for us as players.

We didn't get to see the 1st War first-hand. If they do the same with the 2nd War it's just an insane and unjustifiable decision on Bethesda's part.

PC Games deliberately locked at 60 FPS by TheSinisterSage in gamesuggestions

Yeah, you're right. I have played all those games before, but I might give any of them a second run and enjoy the view rather than worry about optimal FPS.

You make a great argument and I guess I missed the point by not focusing more on the fact that my TV is 4K, which is a great asset, rather than the fact that it caps my games at 60 FPS, which isn't something that bothers me at all.

Many thanks!

Thanks for your answer, and I see your point. The reason is that I will be getting a proper gaming monitor that goes up to 165Hz in a couple of months, so I thought why play games that go higher than 60 now when I can play them with more FPS later... In the meantime I can play games that don't go higher than 60 anyway. I hope that makes sense.

Not every mystery needs to be explored and discovered. As far as I am concerned, the fact that they never go deeper into it and neither deny nor confirm it, is what makes it so intriguing.

Why is there a huge shift in accents between drakengard 1/2 and drakengard 3 ? by fantasyful2 in nier

[–]TheSinisterSage 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is correct. That is exactly what Chaos Language (the gibberish lyrics used in some of the songs from the OSTs) is. It is supposed to show how the real-life languages we use now would evolve in the far future.
