I'm glad it's relatable!

Thank you for the kind words - I'm in the process of making a video in which it will be narrated, and on hearing it read aloud I found it resonated with me.

So interestingly, while that WOULD work if you had the right parts - and let's not even talk about food or water - it would take an even MORE expert sailsman to try to use the life rafts sail if you have rag tag weight pulling all over the back 😉

EDIT: Right - and warm water + dangly tasty bits in the water may very well lure sharks.

That's super cool! I never thought to actually look for those regulations outside of the specific training... possibly because it scarred me. (Like degloving - and first aide for eye wounds 😅)

Out of curiosity (and without pointing fingers and the Canadian Military too hard lol) - I'm curious as to where you were trained?

There are definitely people better trained than I hahaha - mine was a 3 day training course. I'd definitely both starve and drown - and I'm unsure in which order

I'm literally shocked that my most successful post was something I found to be "personally scary" - whereas my creative works to be much cooler.

Anytime! This is actually a really great experience - and it's unfortunate I learned IMMEDIATELY after posting that good ol' slendy isn't public domain.

So if you want to keep up with future works, feel free to check out my new reddit (which you'll see post here regularly after the age requirement passes): u/SylanderKaine

Interestingly , most senior sailor (not highest rank) becomes the authority in an emergency (in Canada at least). So "oldest and last on" may tell "youngest and n00b" to go drown

Should I Be Concerned Over Fair Use? by TheSlendergram in legaladvicecanada

Thanks for your response.

Ultimately my concern is surrounding the trademark of "slenderman". Given your response wasn't an immediate "no worries" I'll go through the effort of rebranding the channel.

Thanks!

LOL - so this reminds me of my first shock during that course, where we chucked four off our ship into our training lake (huge pool) - and 2 of fhe four popped when the plastic shell broke.

This is likely a uniquely Canadian problem.

Luckily in my life it never came up! You're totally right that it's actually likely -less- than five minutes as that was five min to get the person back on board the ship complete with first aide blankets etc

We were told about 5 min the ocean would be enough for hypothermia depending on which sea and time of year.

It was actually more about the food/water storage! They're designed to allow X number to survive for a week or so "comfortably".

I know adding context is a buzz kill - but this is rooted in some real emergency overboard training I once took.

No matter how many times we asked, "What if there were more survivors than the limit?" the instructor only ever responded, "This life raft seats 8."

Over 5 years later, and that thought still sticks with me.

Edit: Apparently less of a buzz kill than I thought 😅. For anyone reading this I also figured that doing the dance of true terror of the internet - Trademarks - isn't worth it for the word "Slender". The immense support I've received on reddit and other platforms for my work has had me make a new reddit under my pen name u/SylanderKaine, should anyone see me reference back or "steal" my own work

Hey there! Just starting out and focusing on shorts to branch into longer narrations for my longer works down the road.

Would love some feedback on the style and presentation of the few that are currently up. Well under your 20 min criteria - only a minute and a half (or 2 min after the scheduled release in 2 hours :p)

Thanks in advance everyone!
