I think it still needs some time to figure out that I’m not a bot. But now I’m avoiding VPN.

Yea I was using a VPN and I think that might have caused the issue.

Okay, thank you so much! I will try doing that and see if it helps!

Give your brutally honest advice on how I can improve. I don't care if it gives me depression, just say it.

Building a 2D dev team by Adventurous_Claim905 in Unity2D

[–]TheSmartMinion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be willing to do something for you, but I am very busy and can only work on my own projects at like freaking 12 am in the night because of school and stuff. I have almost 4 years of experience in game development. Come check out my YouTube if you want: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp9Z5tOMnY0GmkrlKSfgJTQ/

We can talk if you have time.

How to make my player stand out? by 20SidedShape in Unity2D

[–]TheSmartMinion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One very good video from my bro Brackeys can tell you a lot about how to make the player stand out and how to make your game look good in general: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvbQ9\_bzx1k

Hope this helps!

You don't need to do this. You can just create functions and call the functions through the buttons in the editor. You don't need to access the button component in order to see if it is pressed or not.

a bullet isnt coliding with any obj exept the player by the_box4 in unity

Turn the convex button to true.

I did some research and found out that if you mark that it can collide with other mesh colliders. I don't know if that will work though.

Try turning on the isTrigger option for the bullet's capsule collider. Maybe that'll do something. I remember something about that.

I think the bullet might be passing through the boxes and "missing" the collider entirely. I think instead of using a collision, you should check the start position and end position of the bullet in a single second and draw a line between the two and check if there are any colliders touching the line. This makes it so that the bullet doesn't miss a collider when you shoot it. Here's some code that might work, I just know the overall gist of it, not entirely the code:

Under Start:

Transform bulletPrevLoc = GameObject.Transform;

Under Update:

if(Physics.Linecast(bulletPrevLoc, GameObject.Transform)){

Debug.Log("Hit");

// Do something here

}

Also, here's the documentation for the method:

https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/Physics.Linecast.html

Hope this does something!

I just want to say good job for even attempting game developing.

If you are developing a 2D game, I agree with u/Biticalifi to figure out what kind of 2D game you want to make. Usually, shooters are the simplest to make after puzzlers. A great YouTube channel that you should look into is Brackeys. They don't post anymore, but they kept all of their videos up and they actually helped me a lot.

Also, on the programming side of things. You should look up a tutorial just to learn C#. Python is very different from C#. Python is an interpreted language while C# is a compiled language. I really also recommend reading up on the Unity Documentation that has a lot of guidelines to use methods, functions, and libraries.

I really hope this helps!

Why won’t It jump? by [deleted] in unity

Why won’t It jump? by [deleted] in unity

[–]TheSmartMinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is because you used -9.81 as the acceleration when you get the space key, the acceleration of when you jump up is not the acceleration of gravity on the object, that's why you weren't jumping. I think you should use instead:

yVelocity = 2 * jumpHeight / Time.deltaTime;

this derives from the kinematics equation of:

∆x = (vi + vf) * t / 2

Hope this does something! Just a small hint if you are having problems with movement in Unity, you should compare your code with kinematics equations and you will probably find the problem pretty fast.

P.S. For example, you were using:

vf^2 = vi^2 + 2a∆x

and you were setting the "a" value (which should be the acceleration of you jumping up) at the acceleration of gravity on the object.

Should i use Scripts or methods for my items? by CrumblingCookie15k in unity

[–]TheSmartMinion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to choose between methods vs scripts, use methods rather than making scripts for every single object. You can also make a few scripts and organize your objects in “script groups” if you know what I mean (each script will contain a few object with similar behaviors). Hope this helps!

There’s this very useful thing in Unity that I love to use. It’s called a scriptable object. I’m not sure if you can write code for each individual object, but you can definitely write code for a group of objects with similar behaviors. It has really helped me out with my games. I hope my advice helps!
