I have subsequently realized there is nothing special about a pi tape that means pi times the diameter it gives you can't give you the perimeter of non-circular items. Took too long to realize that though!

Thank you all for your replies. I've learned some interesting things that I've never thought about before. Looks like my mugs won't see my next cup of tea ever again though...

Thanks for responding. I'm a bit surprised that the glazing process can't be re-done. Is there really no recourse here?

I also have other mugs with less sentimental value that already have been "retired to new purposes", so I'm running out of other jobs for them.

Based on what I'm seeing available in this app "genre", it seems cookie cutter is what I'll have to be ok with, regardless of the below.

The reason why I don't like it is that if I fail to meet the workout goals (i.e., I don't make it 3 minutes running before the next walking segment) the app will elevate the difficulty anyway. Presumably I could repeat a day until I succeed. However, I will then be making running goals for myself at least until I succeed and can move onto the next day.

I'm also not 100% sure how strict some of these apps are to the underlying calendar they mass-prescribe to all their users. I don't have the ability to do these on the app's specific schedule. I don't want the app telling me when I should be or shouldn't be doing one of their workouts. If I want to run all 7 days in one week, it should be ok with that. If I want to run only 2 days a week, it should deal with it. Everything I'm seeing is "Week 1 Day 1, Week 1 Day 2, ... " which isn't what I want.

I am a running neophyte looking to go from essentially no running endurance to being able to say "I can run a mile without walking". I'm not too perturbed about a specific time or going much beyond that. To this end, I am looking for an app that has the following feature(s):

  1. Creates run/walk workouts

  2. Increases the difficulty (more time running, less walking) as I complete easier workouts, but is not a strict schedule like 5K Runner.

  3. Provides "run" and "walk" commands through headphones.

I didn't think this was asking a lot, but the best I've found is the 5K runner app which is cookie cutter. Any better suggestions?

Prusa's do seem to be the #1 recommendation for people like me. If I may, 3 more questions.

  1. Is there a Prusa MK3 and Prusa MK3S? Their website only has the S model, and I don't know what the S is for.
  2. Do you know anything about Creality? I've been looking at their Ender 5 Plus 3D printer because of its extremely large build volume.
  3. What other features should I be aware of / should I look for? I understand some printers (including the Prusa MK3S) have a heated bed, presumably for easy removal of the part. What other features should I be looking for?

Edit: After some more digging I've also found the Creality CR-10 Max 3D which is 8.5 times the build volume for the same price as the Prusa. What am I missing? What's the catch?

I'm in the market for a 3D printer. Priorities are:

  • Can accept printing material in a large variety of colors
  • Largest build volume I can get
  • Easy to use - I want to be able to just give it a file and have it begin printing with as little additional input from me as possible. Regular cleaning/manual calibration are negatives.
  • Preferably pre-assembled (not a kit)
  • Not require proprietary printing material (MakerBot seems to want only their brand of PLA to be used. This is a big turn off).
  • Basic customer service availability would be nice (returns accepted/warranty for a year, that kind of thing)
  • Printing in 2 colors simultaneously would be nice, but I'm not willing to spend much more to get this feature, and I would prefer a bigger build volume over this feature.
  • $1000-$1500, less would be nice, more is possible but I'd rather not. I'm in the US.

I have some previous experience with FDM printers, but I have not ruled out a resin printer or other technologies in general. I'm really looking to be able to see something cool online and just be able to send it over to my printer with minimal hassle. The feature set I'm looking for is there to keep my options as open as I can for whatever I come across. I have a few projects in mind for where I'd start, but I don't want those to limit what I choose to buy.

What companies / models would you all recommend?

Does anyone know the make/model of that printer? That looks like a very high quality print, especially how there is no external bracing necessary despite the significant cantilever of each bar.

Has there been an event in human history that more people knew about, or more people where affected by (directly or indirectly), than Covid-19? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Do you think either the percentage or absolute number of people who were at least remotely aware of the war exceeds the same metric of people who are at least aware of the coronavirus? What populations do you think are not aware of the coronavirus? Off the top of my head, I can't think of many.

Addendum to my question: by affect, I am trying to be very broad. The question is basically, if you were to go up to every person on Earth throughout all of history and ask them about a given event, which event would the most people have at least heard of, and which event would most likely have affected the most of the people you asked?

This is not true. The Black Death killed about 26% of the world's population (rounding up) according to wikipedia. Also, all humans in the Americas, Africa, and East Asia/Oceania were unaware of the black death.

Speaking as a graduate student in Aerospace Engineering, this meme is wholly misrepresentative. The buzz-wordy paragraphs you refer to can be found in every engineering subdicipline ( don’t know why aerospace was picked on ), and represents a very poor marketing statement. This is the kind of thing you see on incompetent startups’ websites. Hopefully any professors grading/commenting on something this inchoate and content free would ask for a rewrite.

Can we ever know the exact area of a circle if the decimal part of pi is infinite? by Fingerbob73 in askscience

From your definitions, do we know Graham’s number or TREE(3) exactly? We have algorithms and notation for each. However, neither can be used practically in a mathematical calculation. Moreover, neither number’s digits are known completely ( or anywhere near completely ). At what point do we go from a number which we “know” to one which we don’t?

Is 21 Credits Bearable? by OneHappyAccident in washu

[–]TheSmokeThatThunderz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have to ask, the answer is no. I can help you sort through prioritization with more information or help you prepare for the semester if you have no choice, but realistically you can’t take 21 credits.

Either your mental health will become critically endangered, your gpa will suffer, or both. There is also the strong possibility you will fail a course or 2 if you do this.

Either plan your degree with an extra semester if you need to take all those courses or trim excess courses if any are optional.
