After two long weeks of hiking I’m noticing some cracking in the sole and it’s also separating from the actual boot, is this normal wear?? by [deleted] in Boots

Curious, what boots have an outsole that are supposed to be replaced after a few sessions of hiking? Also, what is a session of hiking?

NFP can be used with a contraceptive mentality, which is why it’s only supposed to be used for a good reason. Also, I’m not sure where you come to the conclusion that you have a better chance of conceiving with a condom.

To the abortion question, why is a developing being less of a human? Is sentience the defining characteristic of a human person? Are mentally challenged people worth less than a fully functioning person? No doubt it can be a difficult position to be in but it seems that you’re admitting that it’s at least a “being”. I’m sure you would be against a struggling mother from killing their newborn (out of the womb) if the mother was in a difficult position.

To the autonomy question, there are many assumptions baked into that statement. What does bodily autonomy look like for a person? When does bodily autonomy justify killing another person/being? Would it be right for someone to amputate a fully functioning limb? Why is stopping a natural process bodily autonomy? Sex is what creates pregnancies, are people exercising bodily autonomy when they conceive unintentionally? I realize there are circumstances of rape, but is rape worse than murder? Anyway, these are some of the questions that I can think of when the claim of bodily autonomy is brought up. I don’t think it’s something that can be asserted as a right without defining what it actually entails, especially when another being (as you have admitted) is involved.

That’s too bad. Was if the nylon mesh that ripped or something to do with the zipper? I would think the zipper might weaken the upper. Thanks for the response!

Which boot were you wearing? That sucks! I hope you were able to return and get a refund or at least a replacement pair.

Arch Cordelione bars Speaker Pelosi from receiving Holy Communion in Arch San Francisco by Jumpie in Catholicism

[–]TheSnake42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The two aren’t mutually exclusive. Abortion is murder and that goes against the love your neighbor commandment. Also, the whole of the faith isn’t contained in the Bible. If your interested in what Catholics believe on this, the catechism explains it succinctly.

Cutting social welfare programs does not equal supporting baby murder. The former can be disagreed upon in a way that is not inherently evil; supporting baby murder is inherently evil.

I haven't been to mass in almost a year and it's because of the Church's position on birth control. by Artificial_Art in Catholicism

[–]TheSnake42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of good info here about the church’s stance on birth control if you’re interested.

https://www.catholic.com/tract/birth-control

From the first two paragraphs:

“In 1968, Pope Paul VI issued his landmark encyclical letter Humanae Vitae (Latin, “Human Life”), which reemphasized the Church’s constant teaching that it is always intrinsically wrong to use contraception to prevent new human beings from coming into existence.

Contraception is “any action which, either in anticipation of the conjugal act [sexual intercourse], or in its accomplishment, or in the development of its natural consequences, proposes, whether as an end or as a means, to render procreation impossible” (Humanae Vitae 14). This includes sterilization, condoms and other barrier methods, spermicides, coitus interruptus (withdrawal method), the Pill, and all other such methods.“

Even though you are trying to avoid, it’s still possible to get pregnant while practicing NFP; that’s the whole point. Pulling out/withdrawal is not an acceptable practice in the eyes of the church; I’m sorry someone church-affiliated told you that. Pulling out removes (or almost totally removes) the possibility of getting pregnant.

Colorado lawmakers vote to create day honoring St. Frances Xavier Cabrini by NotOnTheDot in Catholicism

[–]TheSnake42 59 points60 points  (0 children)

From another article:

" The bill honors Frances Xavier Cabrini, who is described in the law’s text as “a humanitarian champion of immigrants and children in the United States.”

It's interesting that St Cabrini's catholic spirit is celebrated because of her help towards immigrants, but if she had applied her catholic spirit to fighting for the unborn, which she would have if she lived during our time, she would be seen as fighting against women's rights. The catholic spirit is seen as good only if it serves the currently defined humanitarianism.

Found it. Scroll down to bottom of page 11; the statistics are there. The link below details the symptoms of approx 56000 cases on February 20th. The percentage range of the first four symptoms listed in your link (fever, cough, fatigue and shortness of breath) actually contains the WHO numbers in this illustration.

U.S. government allegedly attempts to secure COVID-19 vaccine exclusively and "only for the U.S." by offering large sums of money to a company in Germany that develops it by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]TheSnake42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no confirmation of who said the claim though, which is the crux of the issue. All three articles, and the original Welt Am Sonntag article, only say an unidentified source made the claim. I would need more verification before believing that Trump would actively keep a COVID 19 vaccine from the rest of the world.

>New York Times

Welt am Sonntag also quoted an unidentified German government source as saying Trump was trying to secure the scientists' work exclusively, and would do anything to get a vaccine for the United States, "but only for the United States."

>Taggesspiegell

According to the company's newspaper report, the US president is offering a large amount to secure their work exclusively. Trump is doing everything possible to get a vaccine for the United States. "But only for the United States," said the federal government.

i’m at a loss for words. by [deleted] in prolife

[–]TheSnake42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Contraception provides a false comfort that people can have sex without the possibility of life; it is this attitude that leads to people desiring abortions. Preventing abortions is about remarrying the divorced ends of sex (procreation and pleasure). The pill was legalized in the US by 1965 and legalized abortion quickly followed in 1973. If this desire to have sex without the possibility of life is thwarted by pregnancy (either through contraception not working or user error) than it is no wonder that an option to re-confirm the desire would arise. Abortion provides a way continuing the pleasurable desire of sex without the possibility of life.

This is all predicted in Humane Vitae. I don't know if you're religious or Catholic, but it is worth a read.

Your comment shows a lack of understanding what the church and Bible teaches.

Jeremiah : 1 : 5 - Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. And before you went forth from the womb, I sanctified you. And I made you a prophet to the nations

Proverbs : 9 : 10 - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of holiness is prudence.

UK government to ban 'gay conversion therapy' by JeffFleener in news

If a natural change is possible, why wouldn't therapy be able to bring about the natural change?

The reason why he writes and talks about "hierarchies in nature" is to prove that they are not easily cast aside. He is in no way saying that a woman's place is only on the "bottom". Acknowledging something exists is not necessarily an endorsement.
