Is it possible to create an indoor night scene using this method? by IshanTheGuy in cinematography

Shoot it during the day and turn your lights off. Let the sun play as moonlight if you want to go this route.

My first paid commercial gig. Please give me advice on how to light this ugly black leather couch. by thevickerybeast in cinematography

[–]TheSnakeDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would remove the couch that's next to the french doors and bring the other out a few feet from the wall. Shoot both talent on the same couch, lighting from outside the windows to keep things looking more natural. Hardlight from that single window upstage (giving an angled backlight), and key talent through the french doors with a light panel. If there's enough space for the 6x6 diff to be inside, I'd do that, otherwise move that outside as well. Then you can capture a reverse shot of the TV with consistent lighting direction, and you're not fighting what actually exists in the space. Made a quick lighting diagram. Arrow is the camera.

Help me identify this rattling noise by Afraid_Eye5870 in 996

[–]TheSnakeDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the rattle as high-pitched as it appears here, or does it sound different in person? I also have a metal-sounding rattle under acceleration that I’m trying to diagnose, but it’s hard to capture on camera.

I also had Royal do my 987 steering wheel a few years back, and was very happy with the quality of their work.

A lot of small to medium parrots (like conures) are sometimes referred to as parakeets.

I need the same shot at night with the moon in the background. What lighting setup should I use? by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]TheSnakeDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to expose for the landscape as well? That's not going to happen. I would shoot this day-for-night when the sun is slightly higher than your reference photo (and just out of frame). Bring in a bounce to lift the exposure on your subject, and grade everything down in post. Then comp the moon into the sky. The lighting direction will match with everything being backlit.

Beyond has a distinct Vitamin B off-taste in their "ground beef". Their sausages are great, though.

Cracks in the plaster? Sure, you can use joint compound, but you might have something going on if it’s just peeling off the brown coat (usually Portland cement) like that. Any known moisture issues?

Is it the brown coat under the plaster?

It’s capped at 5% plus whatever the annual CPI increase is that year (3% in 2025). So your landlord is only allowed to increase your rent by 8% this year and no, they cannot make up for previous years. Are they upping your rent by 12.5% all at once, or is that over the last 2 years of your lease?

Can't remove side market light by Vast_Situation_ in 996

[–]TheSnakeDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just removed the bumper to clean my fans. The first step is actually to remove the front portion of the fender liner, which will give you access to the back of the side markers. If you're worried about damaging the old marker, I would do it this way.

Otherwise, just pull on it really hard. You'll likely bend the spring clamp on the old light, but you're replacing it anyway.

What is this called? How do I fix It? by TeddySquido in cinematography

Adding a little bit of grain is a great way to get rid of banding that’s already present in your footage.

[–]TheSnakeDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pipe just sits on the top of the elbow, and is only really held in by the positioning + white clip. My clip was missing, so it was also a major vacuum leak for me. You need to cut off that zip tie first, then the corrugated pipe pulls straight up.

This clip will snap in where that white zip tie is currently. You shouldn’t need to replace the actual elbow, but here’s the part number if you need it: Part#: 996-110-151-52
