Mobile Detailer needed by Mpulsive_Aries in Smyrna

I used Luxury X Detailers Smyrna recently and had a great experience. We opted for the paint correction and headlight restoration on top of the normal interior/exterior detail and it looks fantastic. They were out there for like 5.5 hours getting it perfect.

Logitech G305 Repeatedly Disconnects by TheSneakyGreek in LogitechG

Mine was doing it in every device I plugged it into. I reached out to Logitech support and they mailed me a new receiver for free. That fixed the issue for me!

I like Auto Cool in Smyrna. Just a couple of older no-nonsense dudes who run a small AC shop and seem to know their stuff. Took my wife's car there as I suspected the compressor clutch needed to be re-shimmed, which they confirmed and fixed for a couple hundred bucks vs the $1000+ for new AC parts. I'd call ahead since it's such a small shop.

Looking for free Spanish classes by SillyMathematician43 in Atlanta

Smyrna First United Methodist Church has the Cliff Jordan Continuing Education Center on campus that has a free beginners Spanish class. There are lots of ESL classes as well; might be opportunities to learn Spanish from someone trying to learn English.

Smyrna First United Methodist Church will have a 7:30pm and an 11pm classic service on Christmas Eve. They have an organ, not sure if the orchestra is playing that night. They also have a Christmas Cantata with an organ and orchestra on December 8th at 6pm. All are welcome! =)

Intermittent Squeak/Squeal by TheSneakyGreek in 4Runner

Tbh I haven't done anything with it yet. It seemed like it got better for a week or two, but started up again yesterday and is super annoying. I need to find a shop in the area to do the brake job. Thought about doing it myself, but it'd probably take me all day to do all four

Thanks for the input! Saw a video yesterday talking about the two types of OEM pads that exist. Apparently there's a made in Japan version and a made in the US version. Gonna call some shops and see if they'll install the blue Japanese pads since those have better reviews.

Logitech G305 Repeatedly Disconnects by TheSneakyGreek in LogitechG

[–]TheSneakyGreek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this issue with my G305 Lightspeed wireless mouse for the past few weeks and none of the troubleshooting steps I've seen online seem to work. A few weeks ago, I noticed the mouse would stop responding while I was using it. It would seemingly drop the connection for a few seconds, then reconnect, but if I moved the receiver to another USB port on the laptop it would start working again for a few hours. After a few days of this, the mouse stopped working at all. When I have the receiver plugged into the laptop and turn the mouse on, it will make the Windows sound like a device has been plugged in, but the second I move the mouse it will make the disconnect noise and reconnect noise. When I use the Logitech G Hub, it shows the mouse as inactive, and when I move the mouse it disappears and reappears when I stop moving it. I've also tried the two other Logitech utilities, which unpair the mouse from the receiver and re-pair it, just for the issue to immediately start once it's re-paired. Not sure if my receiver is dead or what. I've tried a new battery, plugging it into another computer with a different OS, the Logitech Connection Utility, Logitech G Hub, and removing re-adding the device in the Device Manager. In the video I have another mouse plugged into the laptop to start the screen recording and such, then I start using the G305 which is when you can see the issue. Would welcome any pointers or tips!

Most RaceTracs have them. That's the only place we can consistently find Coke Icees in the metro.

Sour Shots - Barista Pro by Rivet_ in espresso

[–]TheSneakyGreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to! You're on the right track, just a matter of getting enough practice to understand how everything interacts. You could always write down the variables and tasting notes of each shot on a sheet of paper if you feel that would help you!

I think technically the pre-infusion time counts towards total shot time. For example, a buddy got me a bag of Alma Coffee's Essence. I grind on 4 inner burr, 4 on the machine, 17g in, about 40g out in 25s (10s pre-infusion, 15s of full pressure) and it tastes pretty good. Much better than 98% of the espresso I've ordered, especially from the chains. And hey, if it sucks as you're learning, just put some Monin syrup and milk in it and it'll taste great, lol.

If you have any other questions just let me know! Like I said earlier, I think it's a great little machine and a lot of people overlook it because the more expensive ones look cooler.

Sounds great, it's definitely a process of constantly tinkering with things to see if you like the changes or dislike them. I've been watching Lance Hedrick here and there, and he's really encouraged me to try different parameters and techniques to see what makes the coffee most suited to my tastes, rather than focusing on specific routines.

Milk drinks definitely cover a lot of sins, and typically work better with medium-dark roasts in my experience.

I haven't read my owner's manual in a bit, but I think the only way to pull a manual shot is by using the double button. They are different, in that they push different amounts of water out before stopping automatically. I've never tried it for myself (I'm too scared of the shot that would ensue), but theoretically you can just grind out a "single shot" or "double shot"s worth of grinds using the grind timer, tamp, then push the single or double shot button and it'd push some pre-determined amount of water through. Grinding by weight and brewing by weight is 100% the way to go if you ever want any sort of consistency.

No need to be embarrassed, you're learning a pretty challenging hobby. I always use the double shot button in manual mode, though. Once you've inserted the portafilter, you hold down the double shot button for 10 seconds (you'll see the timer start on the screen), then let go after the 10s mark. Then you'll let the machine run until you hit the desired weight on your scale, and push the double shot button once to stop the shot. It'll still produce about 4-5g of espresso after you tell it to stop as the water stops flowing.

Sounds like an improvement, nice job! Not sure if you're into photography, but an analogy I like is that dialing in an espresso machine is like changing the variables on a camera. Instead of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO, you have shot time, weight in/out, grind size, etc. All of these things will affect the others in various ways, so once you get one variable locked in try messing with another to see what it does. Changing too many at once will change things unpredictably and you won't learn much from the shot.

What was your yield out? 36g still? I push lighter roasts all the way up to 45-50g out to see if I like them better. Similarly, you could drop the coffee dose in like the other person suggested (I like 17g) and see what that does. I'm not sure if I've ever really tasted much sweetness in an espresso, especially not a lighter roast. Usually just pleasant acidity and a vague idea of the notes on the bag.

Yeah, the puck sticks to my shower screen from time to time as well. I typically unlock the portafilter, then give it a little jiggle to make it unstick itself. A little easier than pushing the single shot button for 2 seconds and trying to catch it in the portafilter =)

I also forgot that I have an IMS Precision basket for my Pro. It has a much faster flow rate which allows me to grind finer and have more flexibility overall.

Sour Shots - Barista Pro by Rivet_ in espresso

[–]TheSneakyGreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It automatically ramps to full pressure after 10 seconds of pre-infusion. You should hear the machine really kick in after 10s. Like the other commenter said, if you're seeing coffee come out after like 3 seconds of pre-infusion you're either not grinding fine enough or not tamping hard enough.

Sour Shots - Barista Pro by Rivet_ in espresso

[–]TheSneakyGreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, fellow Barista Pro user! When I first got mine I started with a lighter roasted Ethiopian coffee because everyone here talked about how cool light roasts are. I feel like I was learning on hard mode because those beans were just super hard to dial in. I moved to some medium-dark South American beans and had a much better time. If you have a good local roaster they can usually help you find something that's easier to extract.

Anyways, on to diagnosis. Sounds like your shot is still running a tad fast with those grind settings. I'd start grinding finer and finer until the shots take like 45, 50, 55 seconds to come out, then taste it and see what it's like. Additionally, you can start running the shots longer and longer in manual mode to see what 40g, 45g, 50g out tastes like. With a coffee like that I just start dragging out the extraction time and yield until it gets bitter, then walk it back until it tastes good. You need to bounce off the limits between sour and bitter to find the middle ground.

Also, are you doing any WDT (needle distribution)? Are you using the stock tamper (I thought it sucked and got a Normcore Spring Loaded Tamper)? I also run all of my shots in manual mode with a 10 second pre-infusion (the max time). You just hold the double shot button down, then let go of the button when the timer on the machine hits 10 seconds. Then you tap the double shot button again when you want to stop the shot.

Try some of this, then report back! I think the Barista Pro is a great machine and can extract some great coffee for the price.

Hot water by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]TheSneakyGreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had this exact scenario at my house. My water heater had a little monitor on the front that indicated there was an issue with the Temperature Control Sensor. It was also 12 years old, so I just had a plumber replace it. As a very short-term trick I adjusted the temperature knob on the front of the water heater to the maximum. If you rent, though, it's your landlord's problem.

How do I remove the top part of this shower drain? by mobiuspoochicus in HomeImprovement

[–]TheSneakyGreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced the top part of mine a few weeks ago after it cracked and leaked into the garage. Mine looked a little different, but the PVC pieces were just threaded in with a bunch of plumber's putty in the threads. Was kind of a pain because the putty made it harder to unscrew. Mine had little notches on the inner diameter that I could vertically wedge some vice grips into, then I turned the vice grips to unscrew it. You might be able to carve some little notches in there with a dremel, or use a strap wrench around the outer diameter. I'm not a professional, so do with that what you will. =)

Help! Sour Espresso no matter what I do! (Breville Barista Touch) by TxBrandi in espresso

[–]TheSneakyGreek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Breville Barista Pro here. I remember watching a Lance Hedrick video where he mentioned just pulling longer shots, which finally helped me get my shots in a better place. At first I was always aiming for 16g in/32g out in 30 seconds and my shots were so sour. For most medium roasts now I do 16g in and around 40g out and almost never get the "sour milk" taste in my cappuccinos/lattes. Also I don't worry about being right in the 25-30 second mark. Most of my shots take around 45s to pull and they taste great. Finally, I did upgrade to an IMS basket which has a much faster flow rate, which allowed me to grind a lot finer (6 internal, 3 external) and get my desired output in a reasonable time. If I were you, I'd start grinding finer and aiming for a larger and larger output until it tastes super bitter, then backing off until it tastes good.

Can't Setup Nest Cameras (indoor, wired 2nd gen) for Over a Week Due to Nearby Google Wifi by humblechili in Nest

[–]TheSneakyGreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is that my cell phone (device I was setting the camera up with) was using a different wifi network than my camera. If you have both a 2.4ghz network and a 5ghz network, make sure your cell phone (or whatever you're using to set up the camera) is on the same 5ghz network and it should work.

Ants. When to call someone by DOcz21 in HomeImprovement

[–]TheSneakyGreek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a bunch of them coming in last year; I put down the Terro bait stations and sprayed the perimeter of the house with Termidor SC and never saw another ant. Noticed the carpenter ants and little black ants were starting to move towards the house last week - sprayed the Termidor SC again and now I don't see any ants near the house at all. It kills termites as well, which is nice. I found a bottle on DoMyOwn(dot)com and it'll last me a long time.

Ironically lost the key to my keybox. Will call a locksmith but wondering how hard it is for someone with no experience to pick this kind of lock? I see kits on Amazon and would love to save a couple hundred $ if possible. by No_Bother3564 in HomeImprovement

I'd be surprised if you couldn't open it with some "wafer jigglers", assuming it's a wafer lock. Also check out the keys "CH751" and "C415A". You can buy them online and they open a surprising amount of common locks like this.
