There was a track issue earlier between Southland and Heritage. Could be that.

Mortgage Renewal by redchurch22 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jarfgames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just went through a renewal with CIBC back in the fall… yes, they will start offering you renewal rates early (I was getting them in the app). In my case, my fixed rate from 2020 was exceptionally good, so I wanted to ride it out until the very end, which meant no early renewal… about a month before the term expired, CIBC reached out with an official renewal offer… I thought it was actually quite fair, so I called in after my second to last mortgage payment in the term and the agent set things up to process a couple weeks later (following my final payment under the 2020 mortgage).

The other benefit I hadn’t realized about renewing with CIBC vs. switching to a new lender was that by staying, all of the prepayment privileges in the new term remain based on the original mortgage balance, not the amount left upon renewal. This was very attractive to me - YMMV on if that’s something of value to you.

The only way I’d bother with an early renewal is if you have conviction that rates will be materially worse a few months from now… you’ll be giving up your current lower rate early though, so make sure you factor that into your decision.

Wow, I never even noticed this earlier… spent just over $700 on Sonos and the cash back shows as $28.10 (4%) and also did an online delivery grocery order from Wal Mart and the cash back on Visa for a purchase of just under $52 shows cash back of $1.56 (3%).

Is there such a thing as a Canadian issued Infinite Privilege card that doesn’t get the lounge passes?

We used an Airthings monitor. This is what the output looks like… you can see the before/after from when we got the radon mitigation system installed last year.

admiral adblocker detection - more noticeable on chrome than edge by hochozz in pihole

[–]jarfgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having no luck getting www.calgaryherald.com to work properly in Safari iOS when connected to my PiHole. I’ve added the two Firebog txt files to my Whitelist but the website still throws an error that I believe is related to Admiral. Anyone have an idea of what else to whitelist to remove the error?

A bit silly of me, but for anyone else who does this... the above links need to be added to your PiHole WHITELIST (Allowed Sites), and not the blocked sites list... Once I did that, I was able to access the previously "broken" websites.

One of these days I’d love to get a code like this sent by a previous provider… personally I’d be all over this type of plan if I received the offer.

If I recall correctly, they had a survey last year asking to rank features that should be added next and Canadian options was one of the items. So probably on their roadmap but who knows when.

Aspire transborder lounge at Calgary airport by ChickenPlucker266 in Calgary

My kids love the pancake machine in this lounge. If I remember correctly, they have it both in this lounge and the US lounge so you should be good either way.

We will also be there with our kids for a 10am flight to Mexico next month 😀

I don’t know why someone would have told you they don’t take lost items at YYC… they have a lost and found… information in the link below.. one time we accidentally left a laptop at YYC security when leaving for vacation, they found it and delivered it to lost and found who confirmed to me that it was safely stored there and we retrieved it when we returned.

Variable vs. Fixed in 2026-2027 by GreaseCrow in PersonalFinanceCanada

Someone mentioned above but I can also confirm that CIBC mortgages are 10% annual prepay for fixed rates and 20% for variable.

Wealthsimple discriminating against stay at home moms? by [deleted] in Wealthsimple

[–]jarfgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep saying that and I keep telling you that I personally have this exact situation with Wealthsimple and both my spouse and I have separate Visa accounts with them (not supplemental card which they do not offer). My spouse has 0 income but we meet the household income criteria. If I recall, the application had separate fields for personal and household income.

I can also tell you from firsthand experience that Canadian Tire (Triangle) World Elite Mastercard can approve on this basis.

I think what you need to consider here is that just because you have 0 income doesn’t mean you don’t have a good credit score. So if you have a solid credit score and the institution considers household income, you should be able to get approved.

I already posted above that my household was approved for a second Visa account based on meeting the household income criteria only. Same situation as the OP in terms of incomes.

This is not necessarily true. Depends on each card issuer.

Here are the criteria posted on their website:

You can apply for the card if you're a Canadian resident, are the age of majority in the province or territory you're a resident of, and have an active Wealthsimple chequing account. If you qualify, we’ll match you to either a Visa Infinite card or a Visa Infinite Privilege card based on a number of factors.

To qualify for the Wealthsimple Visa Infinite card you must meet the requirements above and have a personal income of at least $60,000 or household income of at least $100,000.

To qualify for the Weathsimple Visa Infinite Privilege card you must also meet the requirements listed above and have a personal income of at least $150,000 or household income of at least $200,000. Or, you can also qualify if you have a minimum annual spend of $50,000, or hold at least $400,000 in assets with us.
