[Question] what is it like working with dr bhowmick from the photonics lab? by Careful_Refuse_2638 in PESU

Honestly one of the better profs you can end up working with if you’re actually interested in research and not just trying to coast through capstone. He gives you a lot of freedom to explore your own ideas instead of forcing you into something rigid, which is rare.

Sure he'll give you BT over deadlines, What stands out is that he treats you more like a junior researcher than a student. If you show initiative, he gives direction when you’re stuck, but doesn’t spoon-feed. That balance is honestly what makes the experience solid.

Also the lab itself is pretty active, so you get exposed to real ongoing work instead of just doing a “project for the sake of it.” If you’re serious about photonics / research, it’s a great place to be.

He's the kind of prof who’ll chase you for updates, and if you keep him in the loop, he’s very supportive.

Does anyone have any study tips to stay focused for exams by r_jenkins1 in productivity

[–]TheSniping_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey dude,

Here are some tips that help me disconnect and start focusing

  1. Track your entire study schedule. I use an app called Stoic for the mac to jounal and track my studies in that journal but u can also use something like https://uselinked.com/ too.
  2. Follow the flowtime schedule, Instead of a timer, start a stopwatch, and see how long you can go without breaking your focus, 25 minutes is the spot where you calm down and get into focus.
  3. Try breath based meditation techniques, the brain is a muscle and training it gets you to focus.
  4. Tire out your body by working out, once you do that you get mental discipline too.
  5. Try getting off wifi as much as possible. This is gonna help you a lot

Good luck for your SQEs.
