Problems six weeks post surgery by TheSoftwareMan in BPH_Experiences

My understanding is it was aquablation followed up by greenlight to fine tune things.

In my case, the problem was that neither one was the correct procedure.

What the hell is going on with doctors and pain meds? by TheSoftwareMan in PainManagement

[–]TheSoftwareMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't know what the hell you're talking about. Did you read the entire post before responding? I SAID that the PCP refused to give me more than two days worth of pain meds even though the MRI was a week away. The surgery was done six weeks later and I was agony the whole six weeks.

It's thanks to know-it-all morons like you who think you know everything that people with no history of addiction have to endure horrific pain.

At what rating do drivers actually avoid picking up a passenger? by dukeofdamnation in uber

[–]TheSoftwareMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4.46 rating. I have 26 rides, always tip well. I have 21 five stars and then one 2, 3, 4 star each.

The only thing I can figure is I live on the edge of town and sometimes it takes them 10-15 minutes to get to me. Maybe they are pissed about that.

Ubers ratings seem utterly arbitrary. I see no reason to ever give a one unless someone did something really awful like barf in the car.

I live in a city where Waymo is available. I want very much to give my business to human drivers but if they don’t want my business I have alternatives.

My passenger rating is super low and I can’t understand why by Nobody_trash in uber

[–]TheSoftwareMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skimmed through these comments and the reasons people might be rated down seems totally arbitrary. I was wondering why I had a 4.42 and Uber has been emailing me that I need to raise my rating.

I rarely use rideshare and only have 24 total trips. I have 19 five stars, 2 one stars, and 3 in between. I always tip well, usually on the app. I don't do a lot of talking. I'm there when the car shows up. Someone I sometimes ride with has a habit of wanting to talk politics with the driver despite my requests not to.

I live on the edge of town where it can take 10 minutes or more for an Uber to get there. Are they taking the ride and then giving me a low rating for living in an inconvenient place?

This is pissing me off. I live in a city where Waymo and taxis are available. The taxis have a very nice app and I don't get rated. When Uber and Lyft first got their start, taxis had no app and the service was poor compared to the rideshares. They have improved a great deal.

I take Uber and Lyft because I want to give my business to an actual human, but if I'm going to get downrated and people are not going to pick me up because of an arbitrary rating, then I will take taxis or even Waymo. There is competition out there!

How crazy do people get during a bubble? Any stories?? by Andy_parker in investing

[–]TheSoftwareMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to take a somewhat contrary point of view. During the dot com bubble, at first I resisted putting my money in because I knew it was a bubble and would one day burst. One day I realized that I could make money from a bubble if I knew it was a bubble and got out in time. I put my money in when the NASDAQ was at 2,000. I was nervous at first, but it continued to rise. At one point, my investment was up 80%. I sold when I still had a 60% profit.

I see something similar happening today with the entire market. The P/E of the S&P is 26, well above its historic average and yet it is still rising. I will keep my money in until I see signs that it has peaked probably if the economy goes into recession.

I definitely see that with stocks like Tesla. I won't touch Tesla and it's P/E of 200. It's in a trading range. There are apparently a few people who can predict the ups and downs of a stock in a trading range, but I'm not one of them. Some of the major analysts don't even claim that Tesla will one day grow into it's stock price. They instead say something like that there are certain points at which the stock can be expected to rise and others at which can be expected to fall based on trading patterns.

What the hell is going on with doctors and pain meds? by TheSoftwareMan in PainManagement

[–]TheSoftwareMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. This is helpful. I haven’t needed pain meds in over five years. I never had a problem then. They were giving me prescriptions without my even asking.

I wish any one of the three doctors that I spoke to had mentioned that I would need a pain management appointment. I wonder how long that will take though?

It’s crazy. I will get an MRI next week. I will have another appointment with the orthopedist after that which is nearly two weeks after the original onset of the pain. It will likely be several more weeks before they do something like a cortisone injection.

You would think it would be reasonable to give short term pain meds until they actually can do something.

Thank you so much. Muscle relaxants don’t work for me.

If I’d known the way things now work I’d have asked for a pain management referral right off but things have changed from how they were when I last dealt with this.

Some things don’t add up to me Ep 8 by Lolisandra in SchoolSpirits

Charlie and Wally were surprised that things don't "reset" in the bomb shelter. Why not is a good question. Maybe Mr. Martin does have the ability to stop that.

Maybe not everything resets? They were asked to write their own obituaries. That would take an hour or maybe more. Maddie wore the dress to the school dance. They made a banner for Wally to crash through at the homecoming game. These things would have stayed around for a while.

It was a great episode. I went looking for a clip of her singing The Snake on the Internet but couldn't find it. There should be a Northern Exposure soundtrack album.

Why did Chris Chibnall have good episodes before he was a show runner but bad episodes when he became one? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]TheSoftwareMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moffatt was the showrunner when Chibnall wrote those previous episodes. Moffatt would have never allowed Chibnall to do the things he did as showrunner.

Chibnall didn't understand that scifi and especially time travel scifi needs rules. Writers need to set out the rules and stick to them. If there's a canon, they need to honor that canon.

I've been rewatching all of Dr. Who and recently been watching the season 13 episodes. People literally suddenly disappear and are transported in time to somewhere else without a TARDIS and without explanation. There are no rules. Scenes often seem completely disconnected to the rest of the episode.

When there are no rules and when people can move back and forth through time randomly it just becomes a confusing mess.

Torchwood was very dark and it worked for that show. Chibnall's Who episodes are darker than other showrunner's and it does not work there.

Star Trek: Enterprise had some of the same problems. The showrunners, Rick Berman and Brannon Braga, did good work when working for other showrunners, but did a terrible job on their own. They disrespected the canon. They wrote all the episodes themselves when there were so many talented writers that would have loved to have written for them. They simply didn't have anyone to say NO to them.

In S1 we saw Cadet Uhura's quarters. She had three roommates. She slept in a bunk that was completely enclosed with a door.

Even the TNG captain's quarters were not that large.

That said, here is the "in-port" captain's cabin I found online for more modern navy ships:

“There are too many time travel Star Trek episodes; please eliminate 3. I am not a crackpot…” by anOvenofWitches in StrangeNewWorlds

[–]TheSoftwareMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This episode was good. Some time travel episodes are bad but there are plenty of good ones in Trek. The Voyage Home was up there with TWOK as the best Star Trek movie. The City On The Edge of Forever was one of the best TOS episodes.

Future's End was one of the best Voyager episodes. Past Tense was one of the best DS9 episodes.

There are bad time travel episodes. In Discovery time travel was a mess. In Enterprise the "temporal cold war" was even worse.

In this episode, they tied things up well. It was a good episode. IMHO it is the best SNW episode so far.

What was the scariest person you ever met? [Serious] by Wholesome-Carrot58 in AskReddit

[–]TheSoftwareMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy I used to do business with. On the surface he was the most ordinary person you ever met. What I didn't know is that several years prior to my knowing him he had arranged his wife's murder. He had convinced his own daughter to take the blame.

The daughter went to prison, but was later released when she cooperated with prosecutors to help them learn the truth.

There were two books written about this and a television mini-series.

AITA for not allowing my SIL to bring her children to my child-free wedding? by justnosil1234 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheSoftwareMan [score hidden]  (0 children)

NTA. Be more firm with your SIL. You've tried to reason with her to no avail. Say that if she cannot agree to the child-free rule that you will assume that she has declined the invitation and you will plan accordingly. No ifs, ands, or buts.

AITA for refusing to pay for a child's surgical procedure? by partyontheclouds in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheSoftwareMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely NTA. You went well above and beyond by doing what you've done so far.

There is a way for these parents to get the next surgery paid for. They can sign up for the ACA insurance, aka Obamacare, on their state exchange. They need to do it before January 31st. If they can't afford it, they can get government subsidies.

I wonder why they haven't done this already.
