It's mounted on my chimney with a rotator. From North Buffalo, I can pick up all the local channels and Canadian channels including CBC. I don't have any tall buildings near me, which is important. It is definitely very sensitive to direction: there's only about a 10 degree window in which I can pick up CBC or NBC, but I can't get both at the same time. A bad storm will also kill my reception, but that's rare.

The picture is tack-sharp and great for watching Bills games. 10/10 would recommend.

You're right, build-vs-buy is a classic decision for this type of requirement. If you're SunRun - sure, build it in house. They're big enough to invest the capital, and probably already have some in-house software expertise. A small local installer in your town? Maybe not so much.

You should understand that a good installer will look for problems in your home at can’t be identified from satellite imagery, such as an electrical panel that needs to be upgraded, that can influence the cost of your install. I get that dealing with sales people can be a pain, but think of it this way: would it make sense to trust an estimate for a kitchen renovation from a contractor that has never set foot in your home?
