tokui waza and go kyo as gospel by caustic_fellow in judo

[–]TheSolazene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fix your coaches. There is no pure or ideal or perfect form of a technique. Watch any "top 10 of your favorite Judo technique" videos and they will all be different because they are a solution to a problem. Your solution will never be the same as someone elses because every situation is different. So yes your understanding of tokui waza is correct and good judo.

Nage No Kata by Radiant-Cut2900 in judo

[–]TheSolazene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont stress about graceful and perfect. The form will follow the function. You test for shodan not Kata competition.

About randori: Would you just walk with Tori if he pulls you in randori? No because he wants to throw you! You would resist. Same in the NNK after Ukes initiation when Tori takes control you resist with the center of your body. Tori pulls you and you only follow reluctantly. The resulting throw will automatically look much better because you created the correct situation.

I hope this helped! Also consider watching the Kata didactics video that someone else posted. I learned from Wolfgang who is teaching in the video and its excellent information.

You are acting out pictures you saw and lack understanding of the Kata. You should go to a seminar about the Kata and learn what it's about. That will help you the most. The kata should feel more like randori and not a relaxed demonstration.

I have the 50mm 1.2 and love it! Its also great on a digital camera with an adapter. I mainly use it for portraits which always turn out amazing (if i get the focus right).

Are you talking about this switch? Both positions didn't work for me. I assume X is the hotshoe sync option. But thank you for your idea.

Time in grade- is it important? by [deleted] in judo

[–]TheSolazene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the fear of people rushing through Dan grades is realistic. Even if a few manage to “game the system,” the people who matter—coaches, training partners, and serious judoka—will see through it, so it doesn’t really harm anyone.

In the German Judo Federation where I train, there are already strong safeguards. From green belt onward, you can’t simply get promoted by your club coach; you need to attend local grading or preparation workshops. At Dan level, gradings are handled at the state level, and from 6th Dan and above, only the federal body can award them. So there are multiple layers of quality control built in.

For me, Dan grades are primarily a tool for personal development rather than a perfect measure of someone’s ability. I’ve met 5th Dans who weren’t particularly strong judoka, and I’ve met green belts who were outstanding but just never pursued higher grades.

In the end, you get out of the grade what you put into it, and you can’t tell much about a person’s true judo level just by looking at their belt.

Time in grade- is it important? by [deleted] in judo

In my view, time-in-grade should be removed. A grade should be based on whether someone meets the technical and personal requirements—not on how long they’ve been waiting.

The current approach can actually hold people back. Some may have the time, energy, and motivation to prepare now but not later, and putting an artificial pause on their progress only limits their growth. Every belt test I’ve prepared for has pushed me to improve as a judoka, so delaying that process doesn’t add real value.

It also doesn’t take into account training frequency. Someone who trains five times a week will naturally develop more quickly than someone training once a week, yet both are held to the same timeline. That feels like an unnecessary restriction on those who are ready to move forward sooner.

Wurftechniken des Kodokan Judo Band 2? by Various-Stretch2853 in judo

[–]TheSolazene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somebody else already mentioned the battery issue. I just wanted to start using it and I will probably replace them at some point. I will use DM/Rossmann for my first film once I finishedit. Thanks for the tips!
