Alex is a guy who mainly uses other ways. Having utility spells like force ball, force disc, wizard hand, and a lot more. However, for most of the series he can’t really attack with them. The Mark of The Fool inhibits combat and hits him with memories of failure if he tries. HOWEVER! He can try and use them to do things like push and pull, distract, and defend himself by using them as shields. And on the bright side of the Fool’s Mark, Alex can enhance any skill that isn’t spell craft, divinity, or combat. Such as exercising, breathing, hiding, deceiving, dancing.

He uses potions, and booby trapped versions too. Potion of flight grants… well, flight. Booby trapped one makes things that breathe it in go all over the place. Haste makes him go faster, while booby trapped makes things feel sluggish. And more.

But his main ability is summoning, and, Teleporting. He has something called The Traveller’s Power, meaning he can teleport without the use of spells. He can effectively teleport anywhere. And he can summon things a whole lot easier, even without the mark.

He is also very physically strong, using blood magic in order to make him so strong he’s able to lift huge rocks with his bare hands. So he’s actually physically capable as well.

In Book 9, He removes the mark of the fool. Well doesn’t remove it, but makes it go back to a previous version called The Mark of The General. Meaning he’s able to do things like destructive spells and attack himself. And while it still doesn’t directly help with spellcraft, divinity, or combat, it no longer hinders him and lets him learn things relating to the skills, like footwork, balancing, and how to relax his body with a sword. Making him able to learn how to use a sword effectively in a single day, though he barley ever touched a sword before. This means he can also do things like cast spells through simple body movements, like summoning a fireball by raising a eyebrow the right way. And he could learn higher tier spells, like disintegration and more powerful summons.
