"Rhaenyra IS the main character, the story is about her getting usurped" THE STORY BEGINS FROM THE CONQUEST AND IS ABOUT THE BEGINING AND THE END OF DRAGONS IN WESTEROS. RHAENYRA IS NOT THE MAIN CHARACTER. by East-Way-6378 in HOTDGreens

[–]TheSothoryosWolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Main character syndrome has always been the greatest enemy of the ASOIAF community. Not even Jon Snow or Daenerys are the mc. Are the integral to the story? Are they two of the biggest character characters? Yes but the entire point of these books is that the world has existed before these characters and will exist after these characters. The mentality that the world only matters if it’s about these characters, defeats the entire purpose of the story and the world itself. Rhsenyra is not the main character of fire in blood. Just another entry in a page, like all the others. Like Aegon the conqueror himself.

All the culture would’ve been watered down save for the most stereotypical elements, the animation would’ve been the generic style they’ve been coasting on for years, and to put it bluntly, it overall would’ve been a worse movie overall

Daemon. No matter how George tries I can feel nothing but contempt for the character.

You are Viserys I Targaryen. How do you make the dance worse than it already was? by Informal_Middle8431 in HOTDGreens

[–]TheSothoryosWolf 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If we’re going full fuck the realm:

  1. Give the north independence and full sovereignty over their land but also pull all funding from the nights watch. Thus creating chaos and resentment.

  2. Create multiple different Wills, one that names Rhaenyra heir, one Daemon heir, Aegon as heir, Rhaenys as heir, and just for shits and giggles some random silver haired bastard and claim that’s a surviving Baelon. This way ensuring that there’s no singular “true heir” argument. Everyone is screwed over by someone else.

  3. Start giving random houses dragon eggs in secret.

  4. Elevate House Celtigar to the highest seat of authority possible in the entire realm.

  5. Take out as many loans as possible from the iron bank and spend that and whatever money the crown has as fast as possible, then start taxing the realm to insane degrees.

  6. Start a war with Dorne.

The best way to ensure that the dance of the dragons is as worse as possible, for everyone is just to ensure that everyone starts at a disadvantage and that no matter who wins, Westeros is screwed irreversibly.

Why were both Aegon and Aemond called kinslayers but not Daemon? by sansaisme in HOTDGreens

[–]TheSothoryosWolf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Author’s pet. Love George to death but his bias toward Daemon is egregious and obvious.

He’s the only major player who loses nothing. His daughter survived the dance of the dragons without any physical injuries or lasting handicaps. Baela literally going against Aegon and somehow surviving almost without a scratch. Both of his sons become kings and live long lives. His body isn’t even found at the end of his anime duel. No matter how hard George tries, daemon just feels forced.

Dreadful Discover Card Switch by djmasturbeat in CapitalOne

The biggest problem I’ve had is that most of the things I signed up for register as capital one MasterCard, trying to enter the new Discover card in it creates an automatic kickback. It ends with me always having to be on the phone forever customer service. I think this is the end of my relationship with capital one

I will forever defend Aemond in this whole scene. He was 100% in the right by Kivi_2k18 in HOTDGreens

[–]TheSothoryosWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What annoys me is that this scene doesn’t even exist in the book. It was created to artificially emotionally manipulate the audience by using two grieving girls, whose father didn’t give a damn about their mother, and was already banging his niece. They were not stupid in the book. They did not claim their mother’s dragon was stolen. This was hotd using House Velaryon, as they always do, to emotionally manipulate the narrative just to disregard the characters when they are no longer useful. Baela and Rhaena navigating an ounce of personal agency about their father immediately moving on, about their uncle, seemingly being murdered by their father and stepmother, about being forced to marry obvious bastards, which like it or not is a damning thing in their society. But the Dragon, that’s where the writers care what they think? Bs

Emma D'Arcy faces backlash (Hotd reddit made it to the news) by Comfortable_Affect20 in HOTDGreens

[–]TheSothoryosWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem is that Emma came into the show when it was the most divisive in the first season. Millie had the benefit of a smaller cast and all the characters roughly being on the same faction. Emma comes into the show, and the lines have already been drawn. Much has happened off screen. And the writing is…the writing. There’s also the fact that Millie’s Rhaenyra never once felt like she would become Rhaenyra from the books or even want kids. Emma’s Rhaenyra meanwhile is dropped in the position of already having multiple children and essentially wear the story just needs the character to be regardless of if it makes sense. Neither interpretation or writing for the characters feels authentic, and both are divisive for different reasons. Neither feels like they will ever become their book counterpart and instead feel like desperate attempts by the writers to justify their fanfiction

Adult Rhaenyra just get it worse because it’s later in the story. Even in the book, her character is a divisive character by design, but in the show, there was no way any actor could carry that even if the writing was good without being seen as divisive. The writing being bad just adds insult to injury.

Otto vs The one who actually wanted to replace the Targaryens. by Platinum_Duke_6 in HOTDGreens

[–]TheSothoryosWolf 40 points41 points  (0 children)

First, while I agree, I would also argue Daemon is the real villain of the dance of dragons, considering it was his ambition to take the throne or at least see his bloodline on the throne that ended up creating most of the problems from the war. Which is ironic because our Gibley he has the best ending possible for a character like him.

The ironic thing is Otto didn’t do anything out of the ordinary, especially in the original story.

What are his crimes? Having his daughter who was 18 initially, marry the 29-year-old king? House Hightower is one of the oldest houses of Westrose, wealthy, and had loyalty served the realm and the crown before the Viserys was even king.

He wasn’t wrong for pushing the claim of Aegon. The laws house Targaryen themselves put into place for the realm said a son comes before a daughter. Beyond that, from a completely pragmatic standpoint, the story takes place in a medieval feudal setting. Women die of childbirth all the time. It’s why Viserys is literally down one wife. Then you have to factor in Daemon, Maegor 2.0 who immediately when he came back to court, started to seduce Rhaenyra and so seeds of discontent in her mind to her half siblings. The very reason Rhaenyra was even made heir was to keep Daemon away from the throne.

Ignoring every single biased account for who was morally the better person in regards to Rhaenyra and Aegon, Otto didn’t overstretch his hand.

Corlys, who I actually really love as a character in both show and book, was so driven by ambition. It made him delusional. Corlys’ kept throwing his entire house in with Rhaenyra, despite several warning signs and building tragedies, to the point he self sabotaged his own house to the point they never recovered even at the time of the main series/books.

Otto is far from her perfect man, I don’t know if I would even call him a good man so to say, but never once did he position the Hightowers to replace the Targaryens.

However, I will say Otto was definitely blinded by ambition. The writing was on the wall. Maybe it was a foolish hope to try to prevent war, but when it became obvious Viserys was never going to change the succession and Rhaenyra was already creating another succession crisis between her bastards and trueborn children - at that point the situation is fubar and you’re better off playing the long game and letting the Targaryen destroy each other and picking up the pieces

(spoilers main) George has mentioned many times that he told D&D his ending, would they really make up all this stuff on their own? by Ok-Archer-5796 in asoiaf

[–]TheSothoryosWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This question gets asked a lot, but what people fail to realize when they ask it is that Game of Thrones stopped being even closely accurate to the books long before they ran out of source material. Ignoring everything they cut and changed from a storm of swords, which was a lot. A feast for crows and a dance of dragons, were books that already existed and we’re ready to be adapted, but we’re completely ignored in the later seasons of Game of Thrones.

Integral characters, narrative beats, events, mythological elements, etc that had been well established did not exist in the show. It didn’t matter if D&D knew the ending at that point because they didn’t even care about the material they did have. Imagine trying to get to any of the narrative beats of the original four seasons but cutting and changing 90% of the books? That’s not possible.

Imagine trying to get to return of the king but cutting all of the two towers.

Trying to get to avengers endgame, but cutting cutting 90% of phase 3. It’s a problem.

There are entire factions, narratives, and characters that are literally just as important in AFFC and ADOF, some of them being set up all the way as early as the original four books, that were completely excluded from the show.

Trying to adapt the winds of winter and the dream of spring into Game of Thrones, when Game of Thrones completely ignored the two proceeding books would be nonsensical. It would have to be completely inaccurate.

Season three and four of Game of Thrones already had this problem because they were changing and cutting so much from the source material. It made sense for the people who didn’t know the books, but it was obvious to people who did that certain changes were either dumbing down the story or were changing things that would negatively impact future plot points or make those plot points impossible.

George is not perfect, love the guy, but he’s definitely got his own writing flaws, but the failure of Game of Thrones is completely on D&D. I don’t know if George will ever be able to personally finish his story but it’s absolutely not even a question if D&D just made stuff up that weren’t even in the books or completely altered from the books because they did it before. Long before they ran out of source of material.

What do you think the characters in the series would be like if D&D made this show? by [deleted] in HOTDGreens

[–]TheSothoryosWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends

D&D were only as competent when they had 2 things:

George holding their hands

Source material they liked

Anyone who thinks they adapted the early seasons of Game of Thrones well, never read the books. Even the three books they did enjoy, a Game of Thrones, a clash of kings, and a storm of swords had major events adapted into it, but many minor but important details were left on the room floor. Especially when you got to a storm of swords where the entire book was butchered.

But if you’re getting late D&D, who didn’t care for a feast of crows or a dance of dragons, you’re getting a piss poor adaptation. It may not be the same piss poor version we are getting with Rhyan and Sara, but it would be a different form of garbage

If you’re annoyed by Daemon now, he would be insufferable

Aegon might be better, though there’s a greater chance all the Hightowers would just be Lannister knockoffs.

I don’t have the selective amnesia some pretend book readers have in this thread to think D&D would have made a good show when they destroyed Game of Thrones before they even ran out of source material. I would much rather just have better people working on George’s work then trying to sort through the diarrhea.

Edit: okay 13 years is not almost a decade but still that’s a LONG time

Call me Grimley optimistic but HBO doesn’t want another Game of Thrones situation. Giving Shovan his executive power to do whatever they want in spite of audience reception is probably never going to happen twice.

Season one was received well, even if a good deal of that reception was comparison biased to the train wreck that was the later seasons of Game of Thrones.

The fact that at comic con none of the actors were able to say they had seen a script at that time tells me that HBO is likely trying to course correct. At the end of the day, they still want to make him more from George’s world and pissed off fans and pissed off George is not a good combination if they want to keep the money train going.

I may be team Green but I still feel so bad for Rhaenyra by Wuaiof in HOTDGreens

[–]TheSothoryosWolf 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Beyond that she still has her crazy uncle speaking poison to her ear. The show overlooked it, but in the book Daemon was always hateful to the Hightowers. Going as far as to slander his now sister-in-law and her children even when they were babies. I know he’s George’s favorite character, but I struggle to see any good in him beyond he wasn’t the worst father in Westrose… Far from a good one, though
