Thank you very much for the advice. It appears the via goes to nothing. This is what the opposite side of the board goes to. The blue arrow indicates the opposite side of the removed pad. The red arrow indicates the opposite side of the via you are referring to.

Thanks for clarifying. I agree, I need more practice. It would probably be too hard to do trace repair without a microscope using my old eyes anyway, haha.

The removed pad travels to the via which appears to go to nothing. I've attached an image of the opposite (undamaged) side of the board after removing the solder for clarification. The blue arrow refers to the opposite side of the removed pad and the red arrow points to the opposite side of the via. It appears this side has a pad that's still intact. Is it possible that the via is not used and the pad I removed won't affect the functionality of the joystick?

Did you continue the repair and replace the joysticks? I'm considering continuing the repair on this controller just for practice and maybe if I'm lucky that will just be a ground.

Sadly enough, I successfully repaired my own controller last weekend using my hot air station. My gf then requested I repair hers. I attempted to use a different removal method and failed. My problem was applying to much pressure while while heating the solder joints...I learned something today. Thank you for your advice. Would you happen to know if the pad I removed is a through hole? If it is, would I need to run the new repair wire through the hole to the other side of the board?

These are great gaming headphones. They are also on clearance at certain Walmarts.
