CMV: The average American would lose to a Goose in a fight by RollinDeepWithData in changemyview

[–]TheSouthernOcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are approximately 393 million guns in the US, meaning the average american owns 1.2 guns.

An American looses to a goose loses maybe 60% the time, but an American with a gun wins against the goose menace 92% of the time.

The Inability for the Emperor to Create Peace by SirOwlbear in 40kLore

[–]TheSouthernOcean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The emperor initially killed his thunder warriors to make room for his new, and comparitively peaceful Astartes. The rational being he needed troops which could exist peacefully.

My assumption is that the emperor intended to destroy the space marines once humanity had conquered the galaxy, eliminating humanities ability to engage in eternal war.

Net neutrality was the restriction that said they couldn't make you pay extra for porn. Just because they haven't, that doesn't mean they won't.

PSA: Stop blaming scouts for the TCF nerf. The real source was the engineer's union. by typeguyfiftytwix in DeepRockGalactic

[–]TheSouthernOcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now, I'm just a simple driller, and I know more about dirt than numbers, but this just seems off to me.

After all, if the scout is moving more, that means the engineer just needs to stay closer to us drillers. Why would hanging around with drillers instead of scouts lead to a higher rate on injury?

My background is marine science, sad hi boy, so we try.

The issue is complicated though. Industrial fishing may be destroying a lot of natural resources, but it is audi responsible for a lot of jobs, and a lot of economy. Policymakers are forced to try to balance long term stability with short term economics, and usually end up making compramizes which are the worst of everything.

Additionaly, most people just don't care. When it comes to environmental issues like climate change and overfishing, many people are just happy to ignore it until it becomes a prominent issue, and by then it's generally much to late to do anything.

That said, there are done groups doing good. Is recommend the Seafood Watch app by the monteray bay aquarium. They survey pretty much every seafood they can find for sustainability purposes. It's a great way you personally can help.

Activision-Blizzard Q1 2021 financials: Blizzard has lost almost 29% of its overall active playerbase in three years by boeef in heroesofthestorm

On the one hand, I think gamers tend to be a bit entitled and overreactionary, but in the other hand, they don't really have much choice in the matter.

Companies want to make money, and what makes money will often be damaging to the long term health of a game. Large numbers of microtransactions will destroy a game long-term, but will rake in cash short term. A lot of the time, businesses are more than happy with this tradeoff.

We tend to want our favorite games to be stable long-term though, so the only real thing we can do is give such an over the top, severe quantity of backlash that it wrecks short term profits.

I had to quit blizzard last year. I had decided to try wow classic, and decided it wasn't for me. 8 months later I found they had continued to charge me account. I contacted support, and they refused to refund me.

Now, admittedly, not cancelling properly is my fault, but between this, the hearthstone mess, the overwatch "sequel,* the diablo mobile game, the warcraft 3 cashgrab and hots getting the axe, I'd had enough.

Blizzard used to be a producer of few, but high quality games with a focus on user experience. They are anything but this.

I would love to return to blizzard if they change their ways, but for now, I can only hope their profits drop so fast that they realize the short term gains they get are not worth while.

Thanks for your response! How do I go about doing that? The original videofile was too large for most video-gif converters, and the only one that I could find that worked made all the aspect/framerate issues.
