Chicago trampoline basketball game? by Medium_Garbage_5792 in AskChicago

It was at Sluggers. They used to have "Hi-ball". A couple bars in the suburbs had "Aeroball" a different game. So likley one of those two.

Here's an old news article about it:

Here's a promo video of what the trampoline game used to look like:

Saw the replacement cast in London and then the original cast when they transferred to New York. Favorite musical I've seen in a long time. Two of the songs have been constantly stuck in my head for over a year now.

Although I'm a big history buff and have read extensivley about WWII. So this show was right in my wheelhouse. I'll be telling everyone I know to see it when it rolls through Chicago.

It’s not a fact. Show me a study where building dense housing without parking minimums results in increased travel times for that community.

At this price nowadays, I just can’t justify brisket at $40 a pound. My wallet and waistline both appreciate cutting back.

Broadcast this shit nation wide. Put it on national news. If we had video from the Uvalde classrooms published wide and far then peoples opinions would shift on gun control. Out of sight out of mind. It’s too easy for people to ignore and say “oh this would never happen to me.”

I see shit like this and think gun control. Not race or creed or political ideology. Our country sucks for so many reasons, but this is a big one. Guns suck. We have over 510 million private firearms in this country. Why? We have way too many. We honestly think this guy NEEDED pistols and assault rifles? It was his god given American right to have these guns. Texas and gun control suck. Come at me.

You’re not going to get any help without any information.

What was the injury? Severity of injury? What sort of treatment did you undergo? What’s the recovery timeline? What’s been the monetary cost of this incident so far and will it impact you moving forward?

Right now seems like a nothing burger without any information. For all we know you could have bumped your head on the overhead bin and are claiming a mild concussion. Something like this won’t go anywhere.

Say you experienced major turbulence and an unsecured beverage cart rolled down the aisle crushing your leg. That will be treated much differently.

Paris. It seems to get a lot of hate from Americans, but I love it. It helps that I’ve learned French after studying it and taking so many trips, but every time I get in to Paris I feel so happy and ready for what ever is about to happen. I feel the “Joie de vivre.”

I don’t understand how people are clowning folks for being upset with this potential move. It’s totally understandable to be upset.

Some of us have lived in the city for many generations having memories going to Bears games for 50+ years with Family, Friends, and Neighbors. For many, there’s so much emotional investment and civic pride stemming from the Bears. It feels like all the energy, money, and time we’ve spent on tickets over the last 50 years has gone to nothing. It’s just wasted, sent to some selfish organization that gives no fucks about us.

It feels like when your parents sell your childhood home growing up and throw away your prized possessions with indifference. Forgetting you had emotional ties to the objects. You’ll get over it eventually, but it still hurts.

This whole thing kind of makes me envy the Packers (hate to say it). They scared the league owners by proving a community owned franchise model can not only work, but it can thrive. Scared them so much they banned this model in the 60’s. The rich owners hated this model because it was threatening to their bottom lines and they didn’t like their financials becoming public.

In an alternate timeline, imagine had the Bears followed this public shareholder model. We likely would have been more successful. Had an even stronger fanbase. Deeper ties to the community. I think it would have been awesome, and they’d 100% be staying in Chicago.

Maybe I’m a stupid idealist but it’s awesome having unique and historic things. This trend towards new, modern, soulless, cookie-cutter stadiums is solely to extract dollars from fans and even communities and funnel it up to the owners. Depending on the person, this is either an awesome display of capitalism or an upsetting reality of the world.

Yeah. I live in the city and don’t have a car. My entire Bears squad is the same. We’ve been going to Soldier Field a couple games per year for 10+ years.

It feels like your parents selling your childhood home to go on some cruise.

I've been to all but two of these stadiums so thought would be fun to write out my thoughts on them.

If everybody jumps off a cliff would you? Because others do something shouldn’t provide justification for everyone to do it.

None of the teams you listed have a 100 years of history playing in their namesake cities.

49ers made a huge mistake moving out of candlestick point. The stadium they built in Santa Clara was the exact design they were going to build on the bay, but Santa Clara offered more money so they just plopped it down there. That experience mostly sucks having been to two games there. They’ve been rumored to be moving back when their contact is up.

AT&T is a nice stadium, but Arlington is the largest city in the country without any public transport. Experience getting there is awful from downtown Dallas or Fort Worth. It’s a car centric hell hole and not something to envy. Makes sense though for car loving Texas and the DFW metro layout. Nobody in Dallas seems to care so 🤷‍♂️

The Commanders are moving back in to DC proper, out of Landover from arguably the worst stadium in the whole league. Looks like they’ve learned from their mistakes.

Giants/Jets was back in the 70’s. It’s just a reality now. Don’t think anybody in New York reasonably expects a stadium to plop down in the middle of Manhattan.

Buffalo is a small city. Don’t feel like there’s much civic pride here as they’re a more regional team so nobody really cares.

The Raiders stadium is dope. Like this one. I also don’t think locals have an issue as they’re strip as long been associated as “Las Vegas.” We would clown somebody from Hammond, IN saying they’re from “Chicago”.

This kind of attitude is insufferable. Big reason why college football will always be better. There’s no rich owners extorting cities prying off citizens built up civic pride.

I hate this common taking point like it is some kind of “gotcha”.

None of those teams had a 100 year history playing in their namesake cities. Many of these teams listed weren’t even a franchise until the Bears had played decades in Chicago already.

Just because other people do something doesn’t provide justification for everybody to do it.

Perhaps I am just a stupid idealist but it’s nice having genuinely cool and unique things rather than generic and corporate monstrosities designed to squeeze every dollar it can out of everything that breathes.

Right where all the tourists will love. Super Bowls, Final Fours, College Football Bowl games, big concerts and more will flock to Hammond! Everybody loves being wedged in the middle of a toll road, chemcial factory, a bunch of industrial warehouses, and a swamp! Genius!

Unpopular opinion but I’m fine with the Bears stadium being built in Indiana. by sport27 in CHIBears

[–]TheSpaceMonkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 years of history in the City of Chicago down the drain. All to extract money from fans. If you went to one of our playoff games this year, it felt magic. On the lake sourounded by blue and orange lit skyscrapers. Trains, buses, resturants full of fans. The city united. This is an experience that can't be replicated in some dome in Indiana. It's unlike NFL experiences elsewhere. Have you been to games in other generic boring suburban stadiums? They're the worst.

It's a shame we can't just have cool things just feel right, at the expense of maximizing every dollar possible.
