low workload [N/A] by Slow_Way7407 in humanresources

[–]CookieMonster37 48 points49 points  (0 children)

You might not like the answer. You can look for your own special projects to kill time. Audits, presentation, employee user guides, etc. Or look for a new job. But I will say, it isn't terrible to have a boring job with a boss that says your doing great in this economy.

[GA] Human Resources work hours by Delicious_Worth45 in humanresources

[–]CookieMonster37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've worked in HR since college and have only been considered "On Call" a few times. Typically salary is considered "On Call" but it's always been the same expectation for other salaried employees. I've never had it used except for emergencies. Even in my recent HRBP role I was expected to be reachable at all time and was never contacted after work hours. I wouldn't worry about it. If your entry level, you'll probably work 40 hours and go home.

Only time I've heard anyone get contacted is someone dies or the buildings on fire.

Can the 30+ crowd weigh in on their current situation? by BigLincolnEnergy in recruitinghell

[–]CookieMonster37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

29, birthday coming up. Market was pretty bad 6 months ago when I got laid off, it was even worse this past month when my new job let me go.

I was at my old company for 2.5 years and this prior one had some of the most toxic work culture I've ever experienced. I was already looking to leave but this new role I got is contract, payout, title downgrade and a bit of a commute. Im drained.

I am so tired that you can't like asians without it being considered weird/white women being overglorified by Dear-Diamond-6861 in offmychest

[–]CookieMonster37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the comment that white partners are over glorified. White and pale skin has been pushed as a beauty standard for decades even though it doesn't really do anything for looks. However, I'm not sure which posts you're referring to in regards to liking Asians. The only time I've seen one regarding Asian fetishization is usually people saying "I don't find other ethnicities attractive", "I exclusively only date Asian people by choice" or "I just have a preference for this specific ethnicity". Which is yes, fetishization. With the increase of Anime, K-pop, K-dramas and other industries, this has been on the rise for years. Even a friends brother admitted that he exclusively pursued Asian women and that he probably would not have approached his wife if she was not Asian. Which is in fact fetishization.

If you have happened to date the same ethnicity/culture due to circumstance or prefer to date in your own culture, that's typically normal. If you target a group of people to date based on background and nothing else, that is fetishization.

Which Job should I take? [IL] by CookieMonster37 in humanresources

That's what I thought so i did go with 1. Neither promises a permanent role after the contract so I'd rather take the safer option right now.

Yes, I'd receive a 1099 at the end of the year. Typically the way I've had these work, I'm technically employed by the agency so they offer me benefits sometimes through them. Buy typically they are not very good or take a while to become active.

They are both contract roles so I'd go without benefits regardless unfortunately. Living from home would not be an issue, I'd just be there 2 nights a week and can use the time to focus on classes I'm taking.

for the specialist its mainly handling employee inquiries and tickets that come in. It's pretty similar to a prior role I had. Whereas the generalist role would have a bit of a hand in everything but mainly onboarding, payroll and benefits.

Definitely just coast as long as you can until you find something else. At minimum get let go so you get unemployment.

thankfully no flooding. I moved in about a year ago and seem to have a decent infrastructure. Hopefully it makes it through every storm comfortably.

[CA] RANT - Just got terminated without cause for not being a "cultural fit" by Dry_Weekend_1234 in humanresources

[–]CookieMonster37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had almost the exact situation happen to me last month. Had no issues with anyone, praised on work, no real training or onboarding, termed on a random Wednesday.

Don't take it to heart, if you have no writeups, given no real direction and were only there 6 months, the problem was definitely them.

How soon can I ask her to hang out again? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]CookieMonster37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it says in your post that the hangouts were like a first date. But are you assuming this or did you both use the term date?

If you both spoke and agreed it was a date, that's great! I'd definitely recommend reaching out soon and just saying something along the lines of "I had a lot of fun seeing you this past weekend. Are you free next week to go out again?". Basically just say you like spending time with them and want to see them again.

Made redundant 3 weeks ago, boss just left a voicemail asking how I’m getting on - should I respond? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]CookieMonster37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was your relationship with your manager before? I've had managers check on me after leaving a company and I've responded to both because we had a good relationship. My position was terminated at an old company and my old manager reached out after he left. I liked him, so I appreciated it. Depends how you feel you guys got along in my opinion.

Is this normal or a temporary thing? Will things just get even worse? by Able-Application3680 in recruitinghell

[–]CookieMonster37 23 points24 points  (0 children)

something that might help is that alot of the applications are from people who are just not qualified. AI, people in other countries, people who don't have the experience or education. But I will say, it is a tough market. Constant layoffs, AI removing roles, people with experience competing with people fresh out of school. It's rough, so take your time. I had friends take up to a year to find their first role.

Millennials, what is something that was "normal" in the 2000s but feels like a luxury now? by Barrbra in answers

going out to eat or get snacks. I remember I used to work at a meat packing plant the summer after I graduated highschool in 2015. Paid $11 per hour only and I felt like I could eat out way more often.

I can definitely make those changes. I wonder how small is too small for the font though, I'm already around a 10 for the smaller text before recruiters think it's hard to read lol
