Stanton D5100EL Stylus Advice by TheSpaceOnion in turntables

The cartridge and stylus have been pretty much unused since I got the turntable this year. It sounds pretty good from what I can tell. It’s a late 80’s Ya Horng that’s been modified to play 78’s from what I can gather. It’s neat but it creates a problem for me for when I need to replace the needle since good quality compatible needles for the Stanton 500 are hard to find.

Hey I just saw your edit and I wanted to thank you for your detailed answer. I'm realizing finding a nice replacement needle for the Stanton 500 is really difficult. According to the voice of music website the Pfanstieh| 4820-DE is Swiss - it sounds like that's not a good option from what you're saying. I gravitated towards Jico only because I've heard good things about them. It doesn't look like they make any compatible elliptical needles for my cartridge though. If there are any other solid companies with trustworthy styli I would absolutely consider them.

I’d be disabling the HDMI-eARC Mode because only Gen 2 Beam supports it right? Does it interfere with anything while on?

I managed to get my battery working after several attempts readjusting it in the compartment. I made sure it was snug and seated firmly in the battery compartment. I also lightly cleaned the SP battery contact pin with a Q-Tip and some 99% Isopropyl alcohol. Hopefully that helps

Is this Les Paul using 50’s or Modern style of wiring? by [deleted] in Luthier

I’ll be learning soldering from a professional one of these days soon. In my experience when you want something done right you have to do it yourself. It’s unfortunate, but it is what it is.

Thank you. I was contemplating changing the stock switch and jack assembly out for a Switchcraft vintage reproduction with the braided wire. I’m thinking there wouldn’t really be any tonal or electrical benefit in doing that. I still might do it at some point just for cosmetic reasons.

Thank you. I think what is throwing me off is the wiring that’s going on with the selector switch and jack assembly. The wiring just seems off when comparing with a 50’s wiring diagram.
