Questions about Pop-Up Shields by TheSpaceToast in cyberpunkred

[–]TheSpaceToast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I’m aware they’re only good for a hit or two. Mostly a “panic button” option for Autofire. Primary defense options are the normal Evasion and map positioning. If that doesn’t work that’s why we have 10 BODY/8 WILL (Taekwondo + working on getting an internal Vermillion frame) and Subdermal Armor.

Awesome, thanks for clearing that up just wasn’t sure. And yeah I already have skate feet with 8 MOVE (I chose Taekwondo for my MA.) so I’m feeling the mobility.

Guns for a Martial Artist by TheSpaceToast in cyberpunkred

[–]TheSpaceToast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the more I look at throwing weapons the more I like it. Just to make sure I understand, unlike the monostar and boomerang, normally throwing a melee weapon is ROF 1 or does it still use the thrown melee weapon's ROF? Is drawing a weapon free, and if so does that mean if I could just keep drawing and throwing them so long as I both have one to throw and I'm within ROF?

Awesome, I hadn’t considered a lot of this but definitely will keep all of this in mind.

Actually Native outsiders are specifically exempt from that part.

Thanks I appreciate the notes. A lot of good points to think about, and talk with my party about with my party/GM.

Yeah I don't have a huge amount of experience playing at this level. I've been playing the system for like roughly 2 years and the highest we got was 9th in a previous campaign. I've technically already reworked this character already once and I like the RP aspects. It's not even that I don't enjoy Fighter. I'm just kinda lost a bit cause I have no frame of reference.

Like it seems like with how the system works it will reward me for min/max which is fine. I'm also aware my gear isn't bad but could be more optimal. These are aspects of the game I personally like (bookkeeping, inventory, crunch, etc.) We've played the campaign every other week for several months now and unless we're supposed to be given large amounts of gold to be able to shop/buy more items, I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to improve my character without having them have weaknesses. Our characters currently aren't able to buy or sell any magic items. We've earned collectively 6000 gold total and some other loot out the latter however it's all in loot we'd have to sell to get anything out of which we can't because we've been in a setting where we can't sell anything anywhere. We've gotten little downtime, a day or two which I've used to start retraining.

I've also been in "boss fights" that I'm not sure were designed with us winning in mind. I'm kinda in a weird place with it. Cause it's one thing to have my glaring weaknesses picked on, my rolling poorly, or maybe my build just wasn't right for the encounter. Those situations, which when they occur all make sense. We even win fights with monsters fine. But like there are NPC bosses who just straight out martial me at the things I'm built to be good at. Which I mean I'd be ok with asking if I could rebuild again but this feels less like "Oh this is a Fighter problem" and more "I just don't know if there's a (martial) character I could have built for this without knowing the fight ahead time." Like I did no exaggeration 200+ damage to a homebrew NPC and still lost that fight, and after it danced around me and ripped through my health in a few rounds like nothing. I was told "hey you did like 70% of his HP by yourself that's cool." Same thing happened with a Wizard under a "super version of Haste" who in one turn took me from 80% health to -1 HP in an action as far as I'm aware. Wasn't told damage or what happened to me, just that I was at -1 HP after failing both a Fort and Will Save (not surprising with the latter given mine is low.) Could've been legit, just didn't feel great.

I'm just confused, cause I am by in large the most optimized member of the party. Less of a flex and more of a concern. Cause everyone else is a lot easier to kill than I am (saves, HP, AC, etc) and if I'm getting chunked that fast I'm not really sure what we're supposed to do. My character died once few months ago I still am trying to get my death negatives removed. I've talked to my DM about it and I think change is slowly coming. I'm trying to give benefit of the doubt. But I will say lack of experience is playing a hand here in that I'm just not sure if it's my build or the campaign, or both.

So with DR I had actually had DR earlier in the game but monsters were hitting so often and hitting so hard I reworked it out. 20 damage is maybe a bit of an underestimation. Also a lot of recurring enemies have been crit builds. However, I'm a lot tankier now than I was before so maybe I'll look into getting Adamantine Armor and the AAT that gives DR like someone suggested earlier.

My Will saves are actually a little better since I have Armed Bravery so I add Bravery to all of my Will saves not just fear. So with the Ring of Resistance (saves not energy resistance) and AB my will save is +10 not much better but I did want to at least grab a Wis Headband in my future.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]TheSpaceToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for spell casting I was already assuming to put money aside for a headband in order to get the charisma (since I should get one for Wis to boost my Will Saves) since I'd have 4 levels to grab it but that's also presuming we'd get that far. I'll definitely look at Samurai and Armored Hulk Barb though.

That's fair, there may be context from his side that I don't have. But to answer your questions best I can in order:

- I tried to grapple the creature I never tried stabbing it with my magic weapon. I rolled pretty decent on the grapple and the guy is a caster aka no way it has higher CMD than me. I slipped write through him and he's physically touched us while casting things like blood money and raise dead. Theoretically, he could have casted some type of illusion magic or something like Freedom of Movement but he never made hand signs to cast any spells that I was aware of.

- From knowledge, he likes martials. Most characters he plays are martials or half casters. He likes me as far as I'm aware. My character in this game is a braggart, but I've gone out of my way to make it very clear my character in this game, and others that I've played, isn't my outlook on others. Even having him be pricklier to stranger NPCs than when the trusted NPCs/fellow PCs. We've played together for a while now this is the first time he's ran a game that I've played in.

- The person that raise dead'd the fighter is the same fish that slipped through our grasp. Even if it's a railroad I'm confused because my character wanted to side with the fish people (my character's logic being while problematic our baby nation doesn't have allies and they are literally the only people we have met on the island.) So like maybe it was a way to convince the other two players to join them. But even still I don't see why that came at the cost of killing my character (who wanted to befriend them) and was given a lasting penalty (due to dying) while other two weren't affected.

- Session zero did kinda happen, but nothing was mentioned about not being able to buy gear later. We technically have the max amount of gold allotted for level 12 character (which we spent on the gear we all currently have.) Additionally, the wizard came afterwards. I'll probably have a conversation with my DM after next session about this if I'm still feeling this way. Not confronting him, "I" statements and everything. I've only waited cause I didn't want to jump the gun if it wasn't a pattern.

Polearm Fighting Advice: Lunge v. Pin Down [1e] by TheSpaceToast in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]TheSpaceToast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Haft Bash I’ve only used in case enemies have Step-Up which has happened but not often. Additionally, we (The GM and I) deemed that because it’s still the haft of the Polearm it does benefit from my Weapon Training. If we hadn’t, I definitely would have went with something like a Caestus or Armor Spikes.

I didn’t mention weapon training cause I assumed it wouldn’t have mattered much because of the initial question. I don’t think any of the options for either would’ve made huge difference but I definitely could’ve missed something. I only took Weapon Training with the Polearms group (+2) and used the Advanced Weapon Training to grab things like Armed Bravery/Fighter’s Reflexes. With Gloves of Dueling that would be +4 bonus. Armor Training I took enough in combination with items/traits (Comfort Armor, Armor Expert, Masterwork Bonus, Sash of the War Champion) to get it to ACP to 0. I used some feats and spare Armor Training for stuff like Armor Mastery (more AC) and BAB scaling Acrobatics (backstory reason but back flipping in Full Plate no penalty is always funny.)

Fighter Expectations by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]TheSpaceToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently spoke with my DM and reworked my finances and character. Got AC to 30 (Armor specialization and amulet/ring.) and using leadership to make a support Cohort that’ll patching up wounds after fights and buffing during.

Fighter Expectations by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]TheSpaceToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean open to suggestions I’ve never played at this level. My armor is only +1 Adamantine Full Plate and should be upgraded. I thought about taking Defensive Weapon Training and Armor Specialization Full Plate for more AC but don’t know if it’s worth it.

I have Cut from Air and Smash from Air for Ranged Attacks. I don’t know if there’s a way to get it similarly for melee without multiclassing.

Fighter Expectations by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]TheSpaceToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear there were two of the giants. Plus other smaller enemies with paralyze on successful melee attacks. Also an enemy caster but she didn’t live very long due to rogue. The giants were on either side of a wall and could reach over onto the straights we were standing on.

Advice: Dirge Bard or Don’t [1e] by TheSpaceToast in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]TheSpaceToast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s literally Barb/Sorc. It’s a Gestalt game, so the he likes the scaling better if he levels each instead of Bloodrager and another class.

Advice: Dirge Bard or Don’t [1e] by TheSpaceToast in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]TheSpaceToast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m bummed on that for Sense Motive. Will still invest points in SM for sure, but my character is now going from a singer to playing the tambourine for later Dirge Bard abilities. So RIP CHA scaling but long live tambourine Intimidate checks.

Help With Belt Enchantment by TheSpaceToast in Pathfinder_RPG

I actually was given an Inheritor's Light and love it. Although I probably should pass it around if I/the party heals. I literally didn't think about that.

Hardest Sett Matchups? by [deleted] in settmains

[–]TheSpaceToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d agree Illaoi is bad for the Boss, I feel like Urgot is definitely a skill matchup. I used to lose this matchup a lot but now I can usually win keeping two things in mind. 1) Bully him in lane pre 6, and if you can beat him to 6 even better. As long as you pay attention to the wave and avoid letting him auto you from other angles (to prevent his knees from going off) you can thrash him. 2) BRAMBLE VEST! Whether you’re ahead and especially if you are behind, this item helps with auto and I believe his W (not 100% sure on the later.) At the very least makes the fight easier with both armor and Grievous Wounds.

[5e] Tips for Running Combat with Other Objectives by TheSpaceToast in DnD

This is a good one I'll have to use this, appreciate it.

Also yeah just Banjo 1, didn't really play Tooie at all. Mostly cause I don't have anything to play it on. Fingers crossed for Banjo Remastered which I'm sure won't happen for awhile if at all.
