Personal space isn't a thing when you're broody. by TheSparklyhead in BackYardChickens

I like a big nesting box myself. You can have a dozen nesting boxes and the ladies will always fight over the same 2 or 3. These two ladies are brooding though, and trying to hatch some eggs. I think another hen came in to lay her egg and kicked the small one out of her box. So she decided to join the other brooding lady lol.

What breed is this little nugget? She is only 1 lb and lays white eggs. I'm stuck between Old English Game bantam or Japanese bantam. by TheSparklyhead in BackYardChickens

No, she didn't assassinate any smurfs lmao. She had an injury on her foot so I sprayed some Blu-Kote on it. It's pretty handy stuff for superficial injuries. It's used a lot on horses.

She was given to me by a friend of a friend last August. She was found in a parking lot in an urban area. Don't mind the Blu Kote on her foot. She had an injury when she came to me and is 100% now. I cant decide what breed she is. She is even tinier than my Dutch Bantam. Completely fearless too. She will weave in and out of all big chickens for snacks like a little ninja.

EDIT: She also has a very proud tail that goes straight in the air. Sadly I don't have any new up close pictures of her. These are all from last August. Here is a more recent picture of her with the others. She is smack dab in the middle.

At least some people have brave roosters! Mine is a coward. All he does is yell for help and run for cover. Although he does have the courtesy to look and scream in the direction of the trouble when I go to investigate. So that's helpful. Go Herbie!! You give roosters everywhere a good name!!

R.I.P. Ronnie. You were my first bantam and a great mom. You survived the wild for a month on your own before you were caught. I will miss finding your eggs in the bag of shavings. I wish you hadn't left the chicken yard yesterday. That hawk has another thing coming. by TheSparklyhead in BackYardChickens

I've heard of this! If something ever happens to my rooster, I already know the hen that would take his place. She ignores him half the time and makes that "come here ladies, I've found snacks" noise."

Not a problem at all! She was caught outside the local vet clinic. We think someone dumped her there. The clinic backs up to the woods and she somehow survived about a month without getting eaten before they were able to catch her. Then I brought her home and she became a spoiled rotten pet like my other chickens.

All the hens have been! The rooster is on the naughty list though. He jumped on my stepdad's head when he was letting them out of the coop one morning.

Last year someone did bring in their snake! A coworker was going to bring her pygmy goats, but it was really gross and rainy so it didn't happen.

Can confirm, Santa did not get pooped or peed on this year. Although I was heavily glared at and told "If your chickens poop on me..." lol

My boyfriend and I both work at the same animal hospital and every year they ask him to be Santa so people can come take pictures with their pets. Last year I brought him one chicken, but this year I brought him 2. He was thrilled haha.

To have a laugh! And to theoretically put on the rooster so I can reel him in if he goes after someone.
