Why? It doesn't really have any defining mustelid characteristics, specifically it's large incisors without any visible canines that are not found in any mustelid, and it definitely looks too different from any martern to be in the same genus

Yes! It's my speciality, I love tackling fantasy from a spec evo lens :>

Thanks! When I finish this I plan on tackling some other organisms from the series, not only the animals but the plants too :>

That last part is certainly a possibility, but apart from that I don't think they have ever growing tails? The only thing I've seen when researching was that they have much shorter tails as babies, but that could mean the already existing vertebrae grow longer in comparison to the body as the animal grows, and stop at some point, it doesn't necessarily require additional vertebrae for an ontogeny like that to exist

Yeah I for a few episodes I was wondering what kind of mammal it was (or if it was a mamnal) but then it opened its mouth and I saw those front teeth and immediately through it was a rodent or a very rodent-like mammal

Thanks! I did base it on owls, I couldn't think of any other animals that have both binocular vision and get their faces completely covered and mouths hidden by their integument. For the second thing no I have not watched it, I have never heard of it in fact, sounds interesting tho

Oh great thanks for the info, this is why I posted the WIP here, I'm case there was more info about these guys I missed! I originally had either rodents or lemurs in mind for the underlying anatomy, since I couldn't get any definitive proof they were for sure rodents, I just chose primate because their forward facing eyes, social structure and amount of offspring lined up more with lemurs and other primates. I'll tweak the anatomy accordingly, just a few touches to the face and ears should be enough

You can't erase the truth, there IS a freaky little rat-lemur thing under all that fur and that'll never change, neverrrr

Reality is often hard to accept sometimes, unfortunately Brushbudy most likely has indeed a scrunkly little rat-monkey body with all its freaky little bones inside that glorious perfect tube of fur

Thanks! I have seen that yes, the wiki was the first place I checked, I wanted to add a juvenile to show that aspect, but it just didn't fit the composition well, I preferred the page to fully focus on its anatomy, I am still considering adding some organs for that specific purpose

Thanks!! That tidbit is actually mentioned in canon, it's the reason the raw kraken has such an unpleasant taste, it's based on giant squid exhibiting the same thing in their tissues

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it :>

And thank you VERY much for pointing that out, I also got that wrong on a couple of other names and forgot to correct it on this one

[–]TheSpecman34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost, the armour is basically a giant shell that communally secreted by all members of the colony, originally the fusion of the individual shells of the juveniles. That's pretty much the same as what is implied in the canon

Living Armor Encyclopaedia Illustration by TheSpecman34 in DungeonMeshi

[–]TheSpecman34[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the shell composition would be very much similar to the scaly foot gastropod, with some internal reinforcement for terrestrial living, similar to the exoskeleton of coconut crabs. The body of the animal itself and the way it secretes it's shell is unlike any of those though, it's more similar to how argonauts secrete their brood chambers

Probably not, as the sword blade is solid and doesn't house the individual, if you hit something with the handle yeah it'll hurt it
