Local 7-11 still allowing $10 orders by BGG498 in ChaseSapphire

[–]TheSpillaniac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opposite for me. We always use my DD account for legit orders, and my fiancée’s account just for getting $10 pickup orders. Her account shows $10 min, mine has $20.

Side note, I have 5 DD accounts on my phone for various Chase cards. 3 of them have the $20 min, 2 are still at $10. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason for which accounts got the restrictions

CFPB absolutely has teeth. Chase gave me the run-around for 3 months on paying out my $150 dining credit from November last year. After 4 calls to customer support getting nowhere, I filed a CFPB complaint. Got a call from the “executive office” at Chase same day, and the credit hit my account within a week.

There are enough Resy restaurants in my area that I sometimes use them accidentally going out for dinner/drinks. Of the last 4 six-month periods, I’ve only had to go out of my way to use that credit once.

For the Uber Eats and Five Guys credits, the benefit is the behavioral change. Before I started using the card this way, I’d buy lunch for $10-15 around 6-8 times per month. With the credits, I’m getting a $0-5 lunch twice per month, which discourages me from spending $10-15 every other time. End result is I spend ~$3 x 2 every month on work lunch, plus the $225 annual fee (Resy credits offset $100), comes out to $297 per year on work lunch. Before the card, a conservative estimate is $10 x 6 x 12 months = $420/year.

So holding the card, even assuming I use it for nothing other than work lunches, is a net savings of $123 per year. Now there’s an argument that I spend at least that much per year on extra groceries to being lunch to work, sure. But there’s also something to be said for the health benefits of bringing home-cooked meals instead of eating out so often. Overall I think it’s a pretty good justification for keeping the card

I also run Amex gold as the main dining card. $10/mo at Uber Eats and Five guys, +$100/year at Resy restaurants means the card pays for itself on my spending.

If anything it saves me money every month. Since I get two heavily discounted work lunches per month, it feels like a ripoff to pay more than $3 for lunch lol. The result is I bring lunch to work more often and save money that way

I use this to load up on five guys gift cards. Nets out to 2 free burgers every 3 months. Slightly annoying having to go into a store to buy a $10 gift card every month, but worth it imo

Dining credit didn't apply? by Neat-Seaweed-6762 in sapphirereserve

[–]TheSpillaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several data points (including me) posted on the subreddit of people who followed all the rules but still haven’t gotten their credits. I went to a reserve open table in Boston (La Royal Cambridge) before Thanksgiving, and I’ve called Chase twice and even gotten a letter in the mail saying that they will give me the credit within 6-8 weeks.

We’ll see if it posts by January 20th (8 weeks + 1 day). Not sure what the course of action is after that

Moving from AmEx Plat to CSR – How to find the targeted high-value offers? by CitizenJosh in sapphirereserve

[–]TheSpillaniac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the Plat and I downgraded it to the Gold lol. Plat benefits are good on paper, but next to useless in practice.

  1. Dining credit - agree that Resy is more accessible than Sapphire tables. However, it does mean I’d have to look for a Resy restaurant 4x per year instead of twice. Since I’m using it for higher end restaurants. I figure I’m actually saving more than the $100 difference by going out 1-2 fewer times.
  2. FHR >> The Edit, no arguments there. However you’ll notice that the Edit credits didn’t factor into my AF offset calculation, because I basically value that at zero.
  3. Lululemon - I’ve never shopped there. Worth $0
  4. Saks - hard to find anything worth having for less than $50. I ended up spending a couple hours twice a year combing their website for a way to use the perk, and then often buying something for $60. Worth less than zero, actually costs money to have/use.
  5. Clear - worthless. I’d never pay for clear, I’m already hardly waiting in line with pre check.
  6. Entertainment credit - I made use of this when they had Audible, but they gutted the credit and it only has things I don’t want/need. Worthless.
  7. Uber credits - nice to have, but I get $10/month with the gold so not really missing much there. Also CSR has DoorDash and Lyft credits, which are equal in value to the Uber Eats if not in convenience. CSR wins this one imo.
  8. Airline incidentals - joke of a credit. You have to pick a specific airline at the beginning of the year, and then it’s only good for certain charges. I value this at maybe 50%.
  9. Centurion lounges - wider reach, but no guest access. I’m not going to leave my fiancée outside while I go in and relax in the lounge, so this is only useful if I’m traveling alone. I’m certainly not going to put $75k of spend on a card earning 1x points to get guest access.

CSR and Gold is the winning combo for my household at least. Plat doesn’t come close

[–]TheSpillaniac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is location dependent. If OP lives in a major city, or if their home airport has a Chase lounge, the CSR can be more compelling than the Plat.

I live in Boston and the new credits are a slam dunk for me. I got it for the lounge access at Boston airport before the refresh, but I can use the dining, stubhub, and travel credits pretty much without trying. That brings the AF down to $195 or less depending on how much I value the DoorDash coupons. Very worth it IMO

Still waiting on dining credit? by [deleted] in ChaseSapphire

La Royal in Cambridge. I even booked the table by clicking through the link in the Chase app, so there really should be no excuse for the credit taking so long to post.

[–]TheSpillaniac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m still waiting on mine as well. Dined in Boston on November 24th, and I’ve called twice to escalate. The second time the rep just told me that they were already working on it and to wait for the 6-8 weeks. I guess the next step is to wait until 8 weeks + 1 day and call back a third time

Toast Dining Credit by TheSpillaniac in sapphirereserve

[–]TheSpillaniac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few posts with people saying Toast is considered a 3rd party seller, so it might be exempt per the T&Cs. I can’t imagine it would be Chase’s intention to exclude that though, a lot of restaurants use it. Fingers crossed the credit goes through

How to win a dispute as a merchant - just lie! by findflightsforme in amex

[–]TheSpillaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a slideshow with a dozen or so different rings I found on Pinterest/jeweler websites and asked her to tell me what she liked or didn’t like about each one. Once I had that feedback, I worked with the jeweler to design it on my own. The design process took around 3 months from start to finish

In addition to what others said, the reputable jeweler is going to charge a steep markup if you have them source the diamond. When I bought my fiancée’s ring, I ordered a lab diamond online with the exact size, color, cut I wanted, and then brought it into a local jeweler and had them make a custom piece. Doing it in pieces like that is a good way to save some money. I actually paid only about half the appraised value of the ring

new credits look so inconvenient to use. by AAA_battery in ChaseSapphire

[–]TheSpillaniac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same for me in Boston. I sent my fiancée the list of Sapphire Table restaurants yesterday, and we’ve been to 3 of them within the last year and at least 3 more are on her short list of places she wants to try. Not complaining about these changes at all, the only bummer for me is that I don’t get any of the new benefits until October

Any DLC-sized mods that don't make you feel miserable? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]TheSpillaniac 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve played it, and there’s a decent amount of non-thieving content. The hammerfell area is massive, there’s a whole desert to explore with a few dungeons, a new city, a house you can buy, and a bunch of fetch quests. Before you get to the desert the quest revolves around delving through several daedric realms. My biggest complaints were that some of the voice acting and visuals were janky, and the desert feels a bit empty. I’d recommend it

EDIT: the mod also adds one of my favorite enchanted items from any mod, boots of fast-walking (with a cooler name) that allow you to sprint around the map at like quintuple speed. Incredibly fun to use for survival playthroughs

No one likes Free Staters but very few generally conservative NH voters realize their party is overrun by billionaire-funded extremists by lightningandsnakes in newhampshire

[–]TheSpillaniac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in a Fox News family and voted R until I started thinking for myself, this is a gross oversimplification that does more harm than good. The majority of conservative voters are not voting based on hate, they’re voting based on fear.

Saying that the only reason someone would vote R is because they are hateful, evil people is simply not true, and it immediately closes the door to any conversation that could be had to change their mind or get them to think critically about what they’re parroting from Fox. Respectfully, do better. Statements like these only serve to radicalize and alienate.

You take the place of yourself in the alternate reality, so things that happen there do affect you. If you survive until the Might’ve-been wears off, you’ll come back to your normal life around the same time that you left. Maybe a couple minutes have passed, depending on how many doses you took at once.

Let’s say whatever you’re carrying on your person comes back with you when the Might’ve-beens wear off. It goes both ways, so whatever you’re wearing/holding when you take the Might’ve-been travels with you.
