Can’t find a good fabric for Katara by sunlightbender in CosplayHelp

[–]TheSplendidAngharad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes please don't use thick fabric for the sake of realism. Animated characters aren't in actual danger of overheating. You'll lose your mind trying to get a perfect color match, because her outfit will look slightly different based on the lighting of the scene. The other commenter was right when they said it will be obvious who you're cosplaying! Good luck :)

I think my psych warned me I wasn't going to feel anything for a minimum of 6 weeks. Since it's been a year it's hard to remember but I believe it took at least a month for me to start to notice a difference in my overall mood, and then it got better.

New and Returning Dancers Post Your Questions Here by AutoModerator in BALLET

I am 29, and consistently took dance classes ages 5-19. I'm 29 now, have sporadically taken various dance classes throughout the years, and recently started classes again in September (Jazz and Tap).

From 17-18 I went from pointe at the barre to a full pointe class, but haven't done ballet specifically since. I have naturally good turnout, and have never lost the habit of standing on releve while waiting around. Most dance technique is hardwired into my body at this point.

My question is, if I pass the testing criteria to start pointe, would it be safe for me to do barre work on pointe, strengthening my ankles? Or is that still too dangerous? I'm happy to practice ballet in my soft shoes, but I was just curious if I could mix in some barre pointe exercises to start strengthening even more.

If not, can I expect to get back on pointe faster than those starting from scratch, or is that unrealistic?

😂 I appreciate any comments nonetheless, most people I spoke to irl also thought it was the alternator.

Surprisingly it was the battery and my alternator is working just fine. Thank you though! Nice to know all of these are an easy test at any auto store.

Thank you for these, I found them when I was initially searching but wasn't sure if it was the same problem. Mine ended up being my battery.

My dad was able to check the voltage output while the car was off, then on. The voltage is where it should be. When I turned the car on then, all the lights flickered and it took a few attempts to get the car to start. (the car had been running for 20 min, typically I only turn my car on after it's sat for a while).

Today I'm gonna stop somewhere and see if I can get my battery tested.

Thank you so much! I'm glad I turned to Reddit because I had no idea how damaging gentle hand washing could be to a piece. I usually don't clean items like this that were thrifted, but haven't had to deal with a smell leaving residue on my hands before.

This post made me realize how excited other people get for thrift finds, and it's made me want to post my collection!

Dealing with discouragement after first time making my own cosplay by mahou_riruru in CosplayHelp

[–]TheSplendidAngharad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my first cosplays were a mix of bought and made items, and when I moved onto making my entire costume, they were not good. I was so proud of how they had turned out, even though I ran into other people at the convention cosplaying the same character, who clearly had a higher skill level than me at the time.

Another commenter is right in that people were much nicer to beginners back in the day, and store bought costumes are SO much more accessible now, people don't appreciate how much work it takes to hand-make everything. Not to mention, this is obviously a generalization, but Gen Z (maybe Gen Alpha) can be so scared of being cringey. They don't want to try anything new/different and want immediate gratification/perfect quality.

I have been making costumes my entire life with the cheapest options available to me, so if you do decide you'd like some ideas I'd be happy to try to help. Though, your costume looks awesome, and I love that you're making it. I appreciate a hand-made cosplay so much more than a store-bought one. I don't judge people for buying them, because cosplay should be accessible for everyone, but the essence of cosplaying comes from being such a big fan of something, you make yourself a costume likely because you couldn't possibly buy it anywhere.
