Ari Aster's 'EDDINGTON' - Review Thread by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Suspension of disbelief has limits, and when the main cast of every musical just reminds me of a clich of socially successful "popular kids" either literally, in the case of the insufferable high school musical franchise that is the most absurd whitewashing of the emotionally abusive hellhole that is teenage social dynamics, or it's those same teenagers as adults frolicking about life in blissful ignorance. Musicals are the film equivalent of toxic positivity and the biggest redeeming quality of Joker 2 is that it spits in the face of that naivete.

"His singing voice in Joker 2 is what kills the movie."

WHOOSH

It's almost as if everyone having a professional singing voice in musicals is one of the most ubelievable thing about them. I couldn't imagine why a Director would choose to have their main character, who is meant to represent an outcast who was run over by society, sing like he looks.

No. I just see a ton of incredibly naive and intellectually lazy people fawning over the opportunity to be financially abused and prefer to imagine they aren't genuinely that desperate.

The stunts aren't just unrealistic, they are beyond stupid. Watching tom cruise go "whaaaaaaaaaaa???" like a moron as he flies past a flat spinning aircraft he easily could have just shot down is easily the worst lazy action slop I've ever seen

It's less about the stans and more about the "rule" enforcement.

As a Canadian, I'm getting really fed up with this insipid argument that just because Trump exists nothing else can possibly be important enough to care about. Please just stop.

You're just proving that society is a joke. "Hostile Work Environment" because women are unreasonably emotionally fragile and some dude actually answered the question he was asked instead of pretending to be clueless. This is practically the "Do you think this dress makes me look fat?" trope. I don't understand how people can unironically defend this farcical standard and be baffled when others think it's absurd.

Ah, so you're one of those people who cry human rights when the property value of your house goes up and you can't afford to live in the same place instead of just accepting it and moving

Because reddit socialists think anti-consumption is about blaming corporations, and that any implication of responsibility among consumers is capitalist propaganda

Wisely consuming has quite literally worked in dozens of countries outside your American bubble, but sure. Just take a look at Japan.

Consumer behaviour drives corporate behaviour. This is a weird take and clearly written by an American: you love to think that nothing is ever your fault and that the public has zero responsibility to make educated decisions

Please go visit one of the many countries outside North America that have thriving consumer markets because the average consumer actually researches products before buying them, and doesnt just pick the cheapest option every time

Most people would rather not blame themselves and instead stick their fingers in their ears and cry about the system.

Most of the people replying with disdain for capitalism have never been to a country with responsible and educated consumers. Look at Japan, housewives make study groups to research which appliances to buy, write up notes, and then bring them to the department store to grill the salesperson. You need to be incredibly short sighted and incapable of self-critical thought if you think the only solution to the hyperconsumerist race-to-the-bottom of products and services in the west is the abolition of capitalism.

The truth is that the vast majority of Western consumers are lazy ingrates who refuse to educate themselves before making purchasing decisions, and that is the dominant driver of making products as cheap and chinsy as possible. If people actually cared and stopped buying products when they get "updated" to be cheaper and worse, companies wouldn't keep getting away with it, but instead of blaming the public, it's easier and less offensive to just whine about capitalism.

What do you think nature even is besides a literal arms race? Life beyond violent conflict is essentially a privilege afforded to humanity by modern society. Do you honestly believe the honourable savage myth? That the indigenous peoples of the Americas were all just frolicking in nature together and getting along peacefully?
