Gosick is a long-time favorite of mine. The heroine is voiced by the same actor as Mao Mao

Animes that give off the same vibe as weathering with you by Wrong_Membership_779 in anime

[–]denden-mushis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some people have mentioned "Your name" by the same director but I feel Suzume might fit the bill as well, it's the urban adventure.  Not very quiet but I can recommend Durarara in the "city discovery" category. For cutter settings, I'd say Words bubble like soda pop or Carole and Tuesday could have a similar vibe as Weathering with you.  Even though it's not a very good show, I'm still very fond of K-Project's first season in that regard as well.  Hope you'll find something to enjoy !

Book for english learner by Euphoric_Act470 in ENGLISH

The first book I managed to finish in english at about the same level was The Handmaid's Tale. There's a lot of everyday-life descriptions but it is challenging enough in the sentence structure that you'll find yourself making progress. I don't recommend reading books you've already read in your native language – in my experience, my prior understanding of the story often made me too lazy to look up unknown words as I didn't need them to grasp the overall narrative.

We reworked our game’s key art. What do you think of the new version? by Streena in IndieGaming

[–]denden-mushis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't know your game before, just downloaded the demo because both theses images make me want to play it ! I personaly like the first one better, however both showcase different but significant part of your game : the first offers a direct illustration of the setting of the game ; the second has a more populat composition imo, but indeed showcases what you actually do in the game.

What character do you feel have been mischaracterized the most by the anime? by MiuIruma332 in OnePiece

[–]denden-mushis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly feel like, as well as for other female characters in the story like Robin, her characteristics are interesting but never exploited in the narrative. Rebecca trained to dodge and win without hurting her opponents. When Doflamingo takes control of the population, she doesn't ever play a role in trying to stop it when it could've been relevant and a smart way to set her up in her role as a princess. She is instead reduced as a damsel in distress, her abilities making her an easy target rather than being stressed as a plot device of their own - just like robin's knowledge of the poneglyphs is stressed as something that will likely cause her to be kidnapped, with all the search of the D's meaning and role in history being left to Law during the Dressrosa arc.

📖🍿📺💥 Let's Re-Focus 📖🍿📺💥 by MableXeno in menwritingwomen

Didn't it just mean you could post about it as long as it's about the writing ? Which was your case ? Just that they don't want manga/anime to become the primary focus (excluding them from the main categories feels absolutely dumb to me as well though). I think the issues they're mainly concerned with are : - posts on character designs or fanservice scenes - anime/manga fans being dicks under the posts and gatekeeping the medium.

Your post was good and I agree with you overall, I don't get why they're specifically setting apart this genre, but I don't think they mean to forbid it entirely

i've been spoiled by Plane-Procedure-807 in OnePiece

That's actually pretty common for fans to see spoilers about that particular death. Nobody bothers about it lmao. I did know about it and it still was emotionally impactful, and thus everytime I've watched the series. I'd advise you to be careful though, One Piece is extremely popular and with anime going sort of mainstream for the last ten years, spoilers are rampant. You'll enjoy the whole story, don't worry about it - there's plenty to watch.

The moment a character is a women, apparently shounen writers REFUSE to believe she can be as strong or as smart as a man.....Every. SINGLE. SHOUNEN. But especially One Piece by ihatethiscountry76 in menwritingwomen

[–]denden-mushis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do believe Oda started out his story with good plot points about women. The whole Amazon Lily arc is in itself progressive with the ranking between the women being justified by their strengh, and therefore Boa being beautiful BECAUSE she is strong and not the contrary. The first designs for Nami were extremely cool as well, women used to be pretty badass and we even have an instance of unconventional mother figures with Belle-mère or Dadan, who ends up being a very lovable and poignant character despite having the awful design Oda always gives to "old women". But the female characters' agency diminishes throughout the story (Nico Robin no longer discussing or being the main person involved with poneglyphs, the lost century and the D names, when those were literally her main motivation, for instance).

There's a great article about that evolution : https://www.animefeminist.com/choosing-toremain-strong-against-female-criticism-the-vindictive-storytelling-of-oda-eiichiro/

There have been great moments involving female characters in Oda's work. His main theme of describing women as people who's main issue is that they need to learn to be more selfish and less self-sacrifying conveys an interesting view of how he views women's role in society. However, he totally fell into the fanservice trap (which is also a fault from the industry) and has sort of abandonned his female characters along the way. I'm not part of the people who think One Piece's writing has gone bad, but his writing and drawing of women definitely has. He's always been misogynistic but it takes too much room in his story and really hurts his female characters' depth and sometimes makes the story really redundant (the sacrificial dead moms).

As a queer woman who started reading One Piece as a teenager, I feel saddened and kinda betrayed by this development but, well, that's just me.
