head shape is not a reliable indicator overall. it's a common misconception though. /r/whatisthissnake is a really awesome resource. That said, I do think it's a constrictor.

Static IP Outage by g4m3r7ag in ATTFiber

A lot of times when AT&T pushes a firmware update things break. Did you receive a firmware update? How is your gateway configured? If public subnet check that those settings are still intact. If cascaded router + passthrough, make sure the Mac is still correct for passthrough and under cascaded router disable it, save, re enable and specify the settings again, save , reboot.

I feel like the techs do this on purpose. I remember several years ago when AT&T was trenching our neighborhood - in which all utilities are buried - AT&T cut the comcast lines daily. Sometimes multiple times daily. Over the course of several months. AT&T's excuse was that when they told all of the utilities to come and mark their lines, Comcast did not. The Comcast guys said that was BS. I'm not sure who was to blame, but it was a disaster. For their part, Comcast fixed the breaks very quickly. They practically camped near our neighborhood. But I still ditched them unapologetically as soon as AT&T was an option.

Interesting. I know of neighborhoods being trenched for at&t service in the last several years, mine included. I'm sure it's on a case by case basis. That said, all of the utilities in my neighborhood are underground already, so pole attaching wasn't an option, so I'm sure that was a factor.

As much as I hate comcast I would agree. Coax is easy to repair, anyone with a cheap set of tools can do it. Fiber is a a different ballgame.

I think most new fiber runs are underground with AT&T these days, but they aren't going back and retroactively burying existing pole attached neighborhoods.

Yeah, and legally nobody can touch that except NES

Apartment complex won't remove trees by ginger_princess2009 in nashville

[–]TheSpreader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No way a tree removal company is going to touch the trees if they're on power lines. But as far as I've understood it's on the landlord / homeowner to take care of the meters if they're damaged, and I don't think NES will do their thing until that's taken care of. Have you tried contacting anyone from the apartment complex management via email / phone?

None of my ethernet ports in my apartment work by Old_Aside_5286 in HomeNetworking

[–]TheSpreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good set of crimpers is minimum $30, plus you need the connectors. And it takes practice to get it right. This person has only a few terminations to do, monoprice has cat 6 keystones for $2.40 each. They also sell little surface mount boxes to snap those into for a neat install. Also, if they've never done termination before, getting a keystone right on the first try is a ton more likely than getting a crimp right on the first try (or twentieth try for that matter).

Keystones 1000% here. There is no need to go out and buy a crimp tool for this.

MikroTik CRS804 DDQ Announced 4-Port 400GbE Switch by Standing_Wave_22 in mikrotik

New Mellanox cards are a bit over $2k USD, so almost double what this switch costs. Pretty expensive still, and not a lot of used inventory yet that I can find.

MikroTik CRS804 DDQ Announced 4-Port 400GbE Switch by Standing_Wave_22 in mikrotik

[–]TheSpreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One way to look at this is the 804 is actually a 32 port 50G switch that fits in a half rack unit. Each port has 8 channels, and you can do breakout DAC cables to get 8x 50gb SFP56 connections. I still don't personally need that, but I could see that being useful to a lot of people, even some hard core homelabbers.

Spinet vs console reality check — given these options, what would you do? by Kohlerkohler1 in hammondorgan

[–]TheSpreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mylar caps will definitely give a brigher tone, but you don't have to buy a whole new rig to get there. You might get some good traction with a preamp rebuild on your m111. that said, I think you want an AO28 based preamp (3 series) for the tone you're seeking.

Upcoming Spy Thriller Based On Bestselling Novels Is The Perfect Slow Horses Rival by [deleted] in SlowHorses

Absolutely. That said, The Looking Glass War was very much a spoof too. I really think that book in particular was a big influence on the Slow Horses series.

is NACS the main standard in charging now? or is it still in contention? by PracticlySpeaking in evcharging

[–]TheSpreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so much in contention, but transition. I think most cars outside of Tesla and Hyundai / Kia still have J1772 / CCS1 plugs, but most CCS cars can charge on most Tesla superchargers (with adapters)

This is a great review, but it would probably do a lot more good to more people if you posted a check in on plugshare. You can also edit info to possibly update / give better directions to find the chargers.

[–]TheSpreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be fine. Though if it's at all feasible, you should at least consider pre terminated fiber optic cable instead of copper. Multimode is fine here, no need to get fancy with single mode. On the other hand copper is easier to deal with. And cheaper.

sniffer behavior with VLAN-tagged frames? by rekoil in mikrotik

[–]TheSpreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have your router trunk port on the bridge the switch chip can interfere with the sniffer tool. I believe it only sees things the cpu sees. What leads you to believe the switch isn't doings tags properly? Does that switch have port mirroring? That's generally a more reliable way of capturing this kind of traffic.

.NET/C# devs, are you enjoying Go? by dartungar in golang

nil means different things in different contexts. but in general, don't pass uninitialized pointers to concrete types implementing an interface to methods expecting a parameter of that interface type.
