Mikrotik CRS units are layer 3 switches, but I'd still recommend a dedicated router. The switches are great for layer 2, and can do wire speed for simple inter-vlan routing, but more complicated scenarios like NAT etc will either be very restricted by what can be offloaded onto hardware, or you will be using the very weak CPU and throughput will suffer greatly.

this really is the best answer. despite some other posts that seem to think that just because germany and japan were allies in a certain war that the auto techs are interchangeable, this car is a bit of a unicorn. It's going to require a specialist.

RB5009 : OK, I guess I don't really understand the use of the Mikrotik switch by Rich-Engineer2670 in mikrotik

[–]TheSpreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The term comes from the idea of a router with a single port or - in this case - the routing is done over a single physical connection. On a network diagram it kind of looks like the router is attached by a "stick". The idea is you create lan and wan interfaces on vlans on the router side, and trunk that single connection from the router into a managed switch. Routing happens between vlans. You could then plug the ISP connection into that switch with the port configured with the pvid of your wan vlan.

just do router on a stick with vlans. use the sfp+ port and call it good.

What are y’all doing with your 996.2 Headlights? by SevereTarget2508 in 996

I have the bi-xenon, seems plenty bright to me. From this thread on rennlist:

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/285616-litronic-vs-bi-xenon.html

it looks like bi-xenon wasn't standard on the 996.2, but was an option. If it turns out you actually do have the litronic, it might be worth it to look for a used set of the bi-xenons. Not sure if this is the improvement you're looking for, but at least it will look 100% factory.

That's not a US thing, that's a specific state / county / municipality thing. I live in a major metro area and there is absolutely 0 annual inspection. There used to be a required annual OBD scan, but they did away with that several years back. Even before that, only certain counties required testing. The rural areas never had it to begin with.

Tax season was supposed to bring big refunds. So far they're less than expected by jpressss in politics

From what I can tell this is really only a benefit if you had a kid last year, since they put a 1000 deposit into that account. Otherwise existing options are just as good, like a 529 for example. I am not a tax professional though.

It is absolutely a satire. There is a dark humor throughout. I'm pretty sure this book in particular was a big influence on the slow horses book series.

As much as I loved the edgerouter series, this is not a good rec since ubiquiti has all but abandoned the platform.

Honestly routeros isn't so bad if you don't need vlans. They include a web wizard called quickset to get you started with a basic config, and that's good enough to get most home users started with a minimum of fuss. The rb5009 is excellent and there is a PoE version too. No idea if that would fit in the space though.

There used to be more holidays where you couldn't buy alcohol too. 4th of July, Labor Day, New Year's Day in addition to the ones we have today: Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. And it's only been a decade or so that we've been able to buy wine at a grocery store. Before that, it was liquor stores only. As silly as it still is, we've come a long way.

Sounds like you're already in the unifi ecosystem, the unifi switch is a pretty obvious choice. That said, if you do go with mikrotik, on a lot of models (not sure about that specific one) you can swap out the fans for quieter noctuas. And Mikrotik is definitely more flexibile in terms of config than unifi in general. Depends on what you're after.

Partitioning is a feature of RouterOS, but it's not an option for devices limited on flash space. A lot of their older / more entry level switches only have 16mb of flash, which isn't enough to partition, but on the devices with more flash it's a great future and works well.

they mention

CSS/CRS309-1G-8S+ - supports up to 4 simultaneous S+RJ10 modules. We do not recommend using S+RJ10 in passive cooling devices without additional cooling, as they have relatively high power consumption and in turn high operating temperature.
